It is like being in the nursery where kids sung rain rain go away; go and come another day. A rainy day in Ghana and Ghanians complain. Why don't you harvest the water to lessen the water crissis in Accra but let all flow down the drain? Yes it is true the Ghanaian brain has been on sabbatical leave since the ill-fated 24th Feb. 1966 that arrested our economic and industrial development. Nkrumah lives!

The problem is not so much the rain falling but the lack of preparation for it, which marred the celebration a bit.

After winning an election a newly elected Parliamentarian must leave his constituency and come to Accra the National capital to represent his constituency while at the same time providing feedback to his constituents. In order to represent his or her constituency effectively a parliamentarian should be able to communicate in the language he or she feels most comfortable in. Many parliamentarians come from constituencies where English is not the first language. A parliamentarian may be educated, understand English and belong to one profession or another but would prefer to communicate in the language of his or her constituency.

Parliament must therefore provide interpreters for all the major language blocks. Parliament must also provide earphones so that if one MP is speaking in a different language the other MPs can all understand. Language must not be a barrier to effective repesentation.

Parliament must also provide a readily available renovated residence to a newly elected parliamentarian. Accommodation in Accra is expensive and not every newly elected parliamentarian will have the money to rent a home in the national capital. Each MP must be given an office, a bodyguard and a secretary.

We are quick with our criticism of The Government and insults to Pres. Mahama or Nana Addo. No critical listen to Dr. Paa kwesi and Samia. we enjoy our tribal inferiority and superiority complex without even a thought as to whether ours is pass glory or stereotype. The opposition is doing everything to undo the presidency and the presidency is doing its best to hear no constructive criticism. Well that leaves only the poor man who is treated to a staccato of noise from all manner of people from the radio thus feeding more negative thoughts into their heads. What hope can this perpetual doused flame give Ghana? Nothing. We are an insignificant tribal nation of no vision with our attitude. I watched in utter horror and sadness to see our soldiers and security personnel match in a storm on our 57th Ind. anniversary. I asked myself why after so many years of independence we have not been able to build even one weather proof facility that can cater for events such as this. The answer is simply. As a country we have failed to think ahead and solved problems. It is therefore not strange at all that not one comment on this page has sought to ask questions with the aim of resolving this disgrace nor proffered any solutions. I know that one year from now if there should be another rainstorm, I bet, it will be the same finger pointing, prophetic reasoning, whinning and nagging. This country lacks forward thinking and problem solving citizenry from top to bottom. We need to be serious. The nagging and cry-babying will not bring about solutions that are not far fetched.
We all have to be ashamed of what happened to us that rainy morning on our 57th birthday.
