Then, the chief surgeon walked in and asked what was wrong. The head nurse replied, ''We don't know what to do with this baby.''

So the chief surgeon took one look and said, "You should put him into a mental institution
''Why?' asked the head nurse.

"Well," replied the chief surgeon, "take a look at him. The boy is obviously half nuts."

everything seems not working properly in the country-

it is prohibited for a public doctor at the state hospitals to engage in another trade outside his working hours and premises.

these are some of the unchecked issues that some of the doctors are complaining that they are over streched. because the doctor who had to replace the shift had not reported to duty and there is a case the one suposed to have closed for the day had to stay on for an unnecessary overtime - this is unacceptable

I last week referred a patient with breast cancer ( early stage ) KATH for surgery. She was charged GHC 1500.00 by the surgeon. We advanced GHC 2000.00. When she went, the doctor pocketed the GHC 1500.00 without any receipts. When the patient complained, the surgeon issued a fictitious invoice to the tune of GHC 3700.00 and this includes the GHC1500.00 he pocketed. KATH is a den of doctor thieves.

I am getting happier by the day that these things are coming out and being found by outsiders so that the insiders dont get victimised when they complain. It is very true that in a Teaching Hospital(TH) where the cases are specialised,it should have anaesthesiologist(dr) in place,it is mostly not the case because these people feel themselves BOSSES and never appear. This then translates down to the indiscipline that we all know,that even the nurse anaesthetist,knowing that the bosses are not there,come when they want and take the patients they want and make noise about it. As if this is not enough,the surgeons who should be there to teach junior drs are ''locuming themselves'' everywhere and leave the surgeries to Residents and Medical/House officers who will then have no much control of how things should go because the theatre staff have MBA(in twi means Me Ba Ha ach3). It is frustratingly nauseating to realise that this attitude is not limitted to KATH but in other THs like Tamale where,there is not even a single Dr anaesthetist,the one there is only with UDS and has nothing doing with patient care.

Government must be bold enough to recruit new doctors to fill the eminent vacuum that is being created. Let us take some drastic measures to get doctors from anywhere; be they from Ukraine, Cuba or Mongolia. We are tired with the Kumasis vampires called doctors.

It is time we put a stop to this nonsense in the country puting our lives for political expediencies. No matter what government comes to power, medical doctors will go on strike, why? Medical doctors should fund their education and apply for the hospitals so that they can be fired if they fool around. If you are employed, you sign an agreement for your pay and everything. If you breach the agreement, you may forfeit you pension or whatever the conditions and the penalties involved. This will help the people. Private hospitals can fire medical doctors and nurses in order to maintain good and hardworking staff. Why can't that happen in public hospitals? we need to change our public sector system or we need a revolution to change them for us. The public service get over 70% of our national cake but the they are about 2%, why? Let us change the system.

Okay Mr journalist, let me take you to school. First of all, this article is obviously for the layman who know absolutely nothing about the world of surgery. Because, i honestly cannot see anybody who knows anything at all about surgery buying into this ignorant jibberish you just published. I'm not a journalist but i think it is fairly obvious that if you want to do a piece on a field you don't know much abt, you do your research and become conversant with what goes into basic procedures and how things are run. That way you are able to distinguish between what is just heresay and what is relevant. I mean, you say you investigated but it appears to me as if you just went there, spoke to a few pple and then went on to publish what every john, dick and harry had to say without doing anything else.
Now, lets come to the breakdown of law and order thing. I'm sorry but in what universe is unavailability of surgical equipments an indication of breakdown of law and order. I mean, come on! And that bit abt surgeries not being done SIMPLY because there was unavilability of theatre space( shud the surgery be done in the hallways??), suction, linen, diathermy.... You do understand that these SIMPLY UNAVAILABLE things are what performing the surgeries require, right? Ergo their unavailability means surgery will have to wait until such a time that they are available.. Some of these aren't just things you can do without or substitute for- like the theatre space for instance. I mean its just common sense..ahhhhhh!!!

Will you here of such nonsense in a hospital in Germany or Norway? Note that we are not talking about a small hospital but one of the two top hospitals in the world. Use your common sense small and stop telling others they are not using theirs when it is you who has failed to use yours
