  We need to quadruple our electricity production within the next four years. Ghana has three hydroelectric dams: Akosombo dam, Kpong hydroelectric dam and the newly constructed Bui dam. Aside this we have the Aboadze power and Takoradi power plants.
  
  However what is disturbing is that the additional power being generated is not being used by our industries or consumers. We supply Togo, Benin and Nigeria through two grids one in the south and one in the North. We also supply ivory coast and Burkina Faso with electricity. Inspite of this the cost of electricity to the average consumer has not declined and many would tell you that it is very expensive.
  
  A look at the national electricity grid would tell you straight away that the Akyem districts in the Eastern Region which make up more than half of the population of the region have been cheated.
