What coach Appiah did not comprehend was very simple : every little match counts in FIFA's ranking determinations.

Coach Appiah took all our friendly matches including our second game with Egypt as opportuned times to test his young players while keeping his most experienced players behind till the waning times of the games.

We all witnessed the blunders at all games. The opponents took advantage to score goals which they worked hard to protect as panic struck the Black Stars into featuring their best from the bench (giving them ten minutes of play time). In all cases they struggled late in futile attempts to equalize or redeem themselves.

That folly made Liberia, Egypt and Montenegro whip us. Heavyweights dont tie their hands behind their backs to meet weaker opponents simply because they are weak. To FIFA quality is determined by scores not by teams.

Goal scorers like Kevin, Gyan, Dede and Muntari must always start in order to put attacking and scoring fear into the opponents and to establish early goal advantge. With that settled then we may, thereby, have the luxury of testing younger abilities.

Appiah must learn that lesson.

Yes, I understand that if you are higher ranked, you get a higher seed and then are matched against a lower ranked/seeded team, but even here, you are hoping to play a lesser quality opponent than yourself so you can get a win. Why don't teams just worry about their own play? Generally, if you focus on improving your game (and playing the best opponents helps), then you will be a winner.

The formula for pairing in such a situation should be like NBA FORMAT... No 1 v 10, No 2 v 9, No 3 v 8 etc. that way we have the best rep Africa and also incentive to be at the top!
