People of GHANA, do not support POLITICAL PARTIES like you would support HEARTS or KOTOKO. Political parties are a GROUP OF PEOPLE who claimed they can MANAGE AFFAIRS of our COUNTRY for us. They do that FOR A LIVING, and we PAY THEM for what they do. You must therefore use your HEAD not your EMOTION to ASSESS THEIR PERFORMANCE. That is the ONLY WAY you can give them A FAIR ASSESSMENT. When they do a GOOD JOB you RETAIN them, when they don't, you KICK THEM OUT. If they COMMIT any CRIME whiles in OFFICE, you PROSECUTE THEM to serve as DETERRENT for others. This is the only way our country can move forward. Remember also that MEMBERS of PARLIAMENT are accountable to you, the people who put them there. MONITOR what they are doing and question them on it when they come back to you for RE-ELECTION. YOU HAVE THE POWER, not them. For those who PROPAGATE TRIBAL DISCRIMINATION, don't vote for them; and tell them in the face that you don't want GHANA DIVIDED. God bless every Ghanaian. Long Live Ghana.

It is this kind of childish talk that helps cover the problem of bribery and corruption in Ghana. Can you tell me where Nana Akufo-Addo got his so-called riches prior to join the NPP or becoming a representative in Ghana's parliament? Do you have an idea of his annual income from legitimate work and even from family inheritance?
You and others said the same crap about ex-president Kufour being rich prior to becoming president of Ghana. Yet no one has provided any extraordinary list of properties for either of these men of disrepute prior to them becoming active in politics. Yet we know for sure in 8 years Kufour and Nana Akufo-Addo along with the crooked bunch we call members of parliament have acquired all the luxury homes and business interests in Accra, Kumasi and elsewhere during and immediately after office. Now tell me what are the basis for your claim of riches and riches relative to who and what time?

...Lobbying or Bribery??
Ghana is at crossroads of REAL POLITIK: Democratic governance allows these unfortunate and shady deals of BRIBING legislators, called LOBBYING, to work on their issues to benefit them, but at the expense of those little guys (you & me) who have no money or contacts to lobby or bribe the legislators.
The United States of America is Numero Uno, par excellence, with this practice. Ever since I learned about this in America, I haven't been comfortable with it at all. Corporations, institutions, even individuals with tons of money can easily INFLUENCE the outcome of Congressional (Parliamentary in Ghana) legislations end elections—because of lobbying.
So, what the heck is all this FUSS about the true definition of DEMOCRACY? Isn’t it government BY, OF, FOR and ABOUT the people?? But here, it seems FOR only those with lots of money who can get their way, thus the meaning of democracy is thrown out of the away—Just like that. Therefore, what Hon. Bagbin is saying, as he has admitted himself, is BRIBERY in Ghana, but LEGAL lobbying in the western world.
QUESTION: Is Ghana's democracy matured enough to call "influence peddling in Parliament with big money LOBBYING or BRIBERY?” And, that's why I say Ghana is at the crossroads with its infant democracy. The cheating and bribe-taking MPs should SHUT the F—K up and leave Bagbin alone. His ass has told the truth, but Ghana has to define lobbying to suit our infant and emerging democracy!!

Omanhene(USA)I like your comments to some extend, I think Democracy is exactly what you defined, what you may have left out is that in the USA there are incredible amount of laws and regulations guiding these Lobbiest. It's legal to Lobby yes but they abide by all those guidelines and regulations. Those who abuse it goes to jail regardless. Your Country Ghana unfortunately don't have those regulations in place at this time of your infant democracy. MP Bagbin has done Ghana real good by "confessing," this way the issue will get to the public domain and paliament (hopefully)will pick it up, debate it and set the ball rolling buy legislating Lobbying. This way the system will be growing for the betterment of the ghanaian people. Remember President Obama although did not have money to give to ghana like former President Bush and Clinton did but he gave ghana one of the best advise any human can give a nation. He told Ghanaian leaders to do whatever it takes to strenghen your institutions. Time will tell if your leaders will take this advice. God bless Ghana and God bless Africa.

No one should be surprised because this is what is going on now in the whole western hemisphere. Democracy has become an alibi for the dictatorship of global capitalism, where you have all sorts of capitalist lobbies dictating to governments even to the extent of Herr Ackermann( Former Boss of Deutsche Bank) drafting the proposed Bank-Restriction Measures for the German government before it even got before Parliament. Don.t be day dreaming because in a couple of years the whole world economy will be controlled by just a few hundred corporates. Democracy is just their vehicle!!!!!!

Interstingy,Paul Afoko, the aspiring chairman of of the NPP,was on Radio this A.M. heaping tons of praise on private companies like Multi-Media for helping fund his party[the NPP]and promising delegates he was going to use his 'connections' to the business to raise the funds needed to bring them to power in 2016. The obvious question is this:Are these companies which align themselves to politicians and parties, doing so with no expectation of being able to influence govt policy? And who will these companies count on to promote their corporate interests other than parliamentarians? Do we really have to go beyond the candid revelations made by P.C Appiah Ofori in 2008, about the wholesale 'hanky-panky' that went down in the sale of GT to Vodafone Plc?

?EU fear of GM food from US hampers historic trade deal
March 13, 2014 00:10
Reuters / David Mdzinarishvili
An ‘enormous gulf’ has been exposed between the EU and the US through Europe’s reluctance to buy hormone meat or GM food from the US. Industry and labor groups voiced concern to EU and US negotiators that the globe’s biggest trade pact was under threat.
“There is an enormous gulf between the EU and US positions,” said Michael Dolan, a lobbyist for the US Teamsters Union at the fourth round of trade talks between the EU and US in Brussels on Wednesday.
The talks marked an unusual occasion, being the first time that lobbyists were received, and additionally marking the first time that the forum allowed reporters inside.
Those involved in negotiating a pact have expressed a desire to finalize a deal before the end of the year. Eight months of talks have already passed. However, tensions which have underscored trade talks worldwide have been a drawback, and continued low public support for the deal has exacerbated tensions over food.
Despite this, its supporters say the deal would lead to some $100 billion per year in growth on both sides, and the EU says that ‘Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership’ (TTIP) is under threat from protesters it deems ‘anti-globalization’.
In 2012, the EU exported $16.6 billion in farm produce to the US, while US farmers delivered $9.9 billion to Europe. The gap was largely blamed on the EU ban on GM food imports.
“Our trade could be way bigger,” Douglas Nelson, a CropLife America adviser told Reuters. “The TTIP is a way to normalize trade with the European Union.”
However, EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht frequently reasserts that there will be no changes to the EU regulation of GM food even if an agreement is reached with the US.
The EU is also closed to US beef from cattle raised with growth hormones.
On March 10, the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) secretary, Owen Paterson, added his backing to an EU proposal that may prompt the fast-tracking of GM crops for commercial cultivation in the country.
Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, GM Freeze, the Soil Association and GeneWatch UK added their signatures to a letter to UK Prime Minister David Cameron condemning the plans.
GeneWatch UK director, Helen Wallace, stated that Monsanto and other GM companies were “desperate to push their GM crops into other countries before the devastating impacts on wildlife and farming destroy existing markets,” according to local publication Farmers Weekly.
