  What is urgently needed at the ports with regards to customs clearance is process improvement with IT support systems to reduce significantly the human intervention, IDIOTS turned ministers.

  Clueless and incompetent people are making vital decisions for the millions of people who inhabit that beautiful country. Nothing has changed since the colonial government went back home after wrecking havoc on the country for centuries.
  What has happened since then has been a disaster of the greatest magnitude. Folks, it has since been one useless and corrupt government after another. Nothing has changed all over these years, if anything at all things have gotten out of control.
  The port of Tema is one particular example that readily comes to mind. The process of getting your imported items evaluated and then paying the fees and charges and finally getting your stuff out of the place is so convoluted that it is just mind- bugging. You will think that after collecting huge sums from importers over all these years, the government will streamline the process by introducing electronic processing so that importers can do most of the preliminary paper. No, they have not. They still have in place the same old snail- pace process infiltrated and dominated by rogue intermediaries who call themselves clearing agents. What is the function of these middle men? Their job is simply to collude with the official government agents so that at the end of the day you end up paying more than you are supposed to and the government also ends up receiving less than what it should have. Folks, I would not wish to have to go through this process again if I can avoid it. It is convoluted, corrupt, chaotic and all the other negative c's you can think of.
