It's a big shame to the political, technocratic and traditional leadership of this country. A net exporter of wood now importing it. The irony of this sad situation is that whilst we are considering importation of the product, we are surreptitiously exporting the little that is left. It's sad and disappointing to know that President Mahama and his siblings are seriously cutting down trees in their own Gonjaland and exporting to China.

DEFORESTATION CAN AFFECT OUR ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT SERIOUSLY. I THINK WE SHOULD RATHER IMPORT IF WE DON'T HAVE SPECIAL TREES PLANTED SPECIFICALLY TO BE USED AS TIMBER LOGS. WE SHOULD BY ANY MEANS PROTECT OUR NATURAL FOREST.

Why do we have to import timber? The answer is simple to the extent that thievery can go on under another name.

I want believe that anytime Ghana Chamber of Mines and Gov't issued and keep issuing permits and licenses for minerals prospecting and full-scale mining respectively in our forests they are not unaware of the horrible impacts they leave behind. You give away your forest reserves or resources for mining, all in the name of economic development with very little to show for growth, and complain about the loss of forest vegetation and timber. It's only people who think very little of their tomorrow that behave this way. How is gov't ensuring mining companies honored the clause in the Minerals Act regarding reclamation and re-afforestation. Sheer incompetence and greed, and selfish interests wouldn't even allow for this to happen. What does the EPA do? These are all useless agencies.

Now the chickens are coming home to roost. We warned the Nation about this.
Now, here we are. This is an abomination that both our ancestors and posterity can hardly forgive us. The fact that we are going to import Wood underscores the abysmal and criminal ineptitude of our governments of recent past. The situation is comparable to an unproductive, wasteful heir who squanders the hefty wealth bequeathed by family antecedents.
This is the first unmitigated evidence of how criminally gullible and indefensibly insensitive and inept our Politicians have been. They scrambled to loot all our eggs for "Kye-no-mu" , without leaving some for the hens to hatch.
They deserve to be paraded before the International Court of Justice to answer for this national debacle of a Millennium.
No Country in our subregion with as much Forest Resource has ever been brought to this point of colossal depravity. And it is not like we did not see it coming. We simply ignored it, condoned it, and even encouraged it under the guise that the unemployed youth needed to scour the Land for every existing Timber species to make a living. And surely, the oxymoronic "Property-Owning" Democracy declaration was the perfect environment in whic to bottom out that our all-important, life-sustaining Forest Resource.
Shame unto you all Heads of State and MPs who supervised this unprecedented historic exhaustion of our Timber. I never thought this would ever hit Ghana when was a practicing Forestry Professional. But when the signs began to show with the wanton illegal Timber extraction, after I had left Ghana and my co-officers were retired, we gave the Governments ample warning of the consequences.
What an inexcusable blunder our leaders have caused!!!!!
I can't hold my tears. God save us!!!
Long Live Ghana!!!

Boss, at times, one cannot hold back the anger that forces us to make unguarded and uncultured comments about our leaders. You are full of anger isn't it? We are being led by people who lack etiquette and commonsense.
