Considering the investment we have made in education since independence Ghana should have been far advanced by now. It is high time we switched to effective and quality education. We cannot invest so many man hours and money on students only for them to score zero in BECE or SSCE. However we must not forget that if our educational system is good but our economy is bad we would just be exporting labor. A good economy is necessary for a good educational system and a good educational system is necessary for a good economy. Our educational system must be purpose oriented.

So he values money more than life? If he is stupid enough to supervise such shoddy work only because there is money to be sunk into the building then he is not a proper engineer. What about the safety of the workers and the people who will make use of the building if completed? It must be demolished now! I don't know why people still don't understand that it is much easier and cheaper to do the right thing at all times.

Officials should check the "Stop Work or Produce Permit" team which goes around Sowutuom collecting monies from poor house owners, knowing well that the VRA land has a legal problem currently in court and therefore needs time to legalize official documents.They know this but are only threatening and collecting bribes from people who are trying to get a small place to lay their heads.

I agree completely with Davis. A mason labourer told me that they were recently working on the site of a civil servant lady at Sowutuom VRA when a team of officilas from the Ga Central Municipal Assembly fiercefully threatening workers to stop work etc. When the land lady tried to explained to them, they refused every explanation, and demanded money from the lady. They actually bargained how much they would take. They only allowed us to continue working and left after taking money from the lady.They are so corrupt and making money for themselves instead of putting measures in place to secure money for the Government.

ALL THESE OFFICIALS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY BEFORE THE CONTRACTOR COMES IN. SOMETIMES ALL THESE PEOPLE MAY BE NEGLIGENT BUT MIGHT BE SAVED BY THE CONTRACTOR. IN GHANA, THE ONLY QUALIFICATION BY MOST CONTRACTORS IS THEIR MONEY NOT THEIR KNOWHOW OF THE PROJECTS BEING AWARDED TO THEM. AS IS SAID, VERY PROMINENT GHANAIANS HELP THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE THE OWNERS OF CERTAIN STRUCTURES TO IGNORE THE FUNDAMENTALS OF DEVELOPMENT OF PROJECTS IN THE COUNTRY. IF OWNERS PAY HEAVY FINES OR PENALTIES FOR FATALITIES, THINGS MIGHT CHANGE IN GHANA. I HAVE BEEN ASKING, DOES GHANA HAVE NATIONAL BUILDING CODE?
