  Armed robbery is on the ascendancy because most of our security men like the Police and the Military are involve. This Police Officer should be languishing in jail like those he helped robbed the bank.
  
  Also, there is no need to put armed robbers in jail to be fed by taxpayers. They should be eliminated either by firing squad, hanging or anything that will send a "chilling notice" to those who will love to take that "easy path" to make a living.

  The Police Officer did not take active part in the robbery so he could not be charged for the said robbery. Prosecution ought to have charged him for abetment of crime, to wit, robbery. Prosecution should have done better than they did. Again, knowing the role he played to facilitate the offence as the facts show, i think the judge could have ordered the prosecution to amend their charge of robbery against him to that of abetment right from the onset of the trial. But in lieu of that the judge had 2 options opened to him at the end of the trial, namely to discharge the accused with the possibility of being re-arrested and charged properly under abetment of crime, to wit robbery or caution and discharge him which ends the case permanently and the learned judge, in his wisdom, chose the former so let it be!!!

  KOKOTAKO, the reporter was not wrong. The police officer did not take part in the actual robbery at the bank so nobody in the bank saw him. Those arrested were the ones who alleged he was an accomplice. The onus was therefore on the suspects to identify him and prove his involvement. The situation would then become 'his word against theirs' and if they could not prove his involvement beyond reasonable doubt then, of course, he had to be acquitted.

It was their responsibility to prove their allegation and if they could not do that then, too bad; and he had to be acqitted. The law, they say, is an ass but that is the way it works otherwise if anybody should say Oyarifa is an accomplice then Oyarifa will have to be jailed.

  Joana K, did a fine job explaining how the legal system works, prosecutors are known to present cases in a way that allows certain people to be exonerated of all charges, even though they are guilty.
  
  There is a possibility that the Police Service is conducting a sting operation to flush out and jail known armed robbers, and the peas isn't privy to that information, in that case, I salute the both the Judicary and the police, armed robbery must be seriously curtailed.
  
  Recently, there was a case in Florida,USA, where a white man shot and killed a 17yr. old African youth because he thought that the young man Was playing his car sterio too loud, the white man was charged with everything except murder, because of the way in which the prosecutor presented the case to the judge.
