  Did we actually get 5 BILLION Dollars from Gold or you mean 5 billion dollars worth of gold was exported and almost all the money went to the foreign accounts of the mining companies?

Look at how much wealth brain works like Facebook, Whatsup, Yahoo, Microsoft, iPad, games etc are generating. All this wealth was simply from the brain electrons which is freely available. Politicians can do nothing if we don't sit down to think and develop things with our brains.

  If the man is paid by government only to preside over a quaterly depreciation of the cedi by 17.6% then it will be better we take any University lecturer of Economics or accounting and pay him ...

  If the man is paid by government only to preside over a quaterly depreciation of the cedi by 17.6% then it will be better we take any University lecturer of Economics or accounting and pay him 30% of the governors salary and benefits with a bonus if he keeps the quaterly depreciation below 15% and pronto we may get better results. Alternatively we should join the CFA zone so that the BOG focuses on matters other than exchange rate. Better and more expirienced economist sitting in Senegal will manage the rate and the real beneficiary will be the common man on the street as our savings will not loss value due to devaluation but possible through inflation driven by government over spending. I know some may talk about compromising our sovereignty. Bear in mind that Cote Divoire went to war for about a year, nobodies bank savings lost value!!! the csh simply remained intact!! if the same thing happened in Ghana we would have been taken back some 20 years and the cedi will have depreciated by 3000% due to war!!! If we cannot manage the currency lets give it to better managers?? afterall most things in this country including our budget is funded by the white man so what stops us friom joining the CFA zone or going on a fast track with Nigeria to use their Niara!! 20 years ago under Sanni Abacha the Niara was 100 niara to a USD , today it is 160 niara to the USD?? There is nothing wrong with using your good friend or brothers assets with his consent till such time that you find your feet!!!
