i dont see the Europeans offering the other benefits such as the freedom of movement and insisting on visa free entry into their countries. they are not offering half a trillion for infrastructural development and real assistance in bettering the standard of the people of west Africa . this is a war that will destroy any chances of self reliance and self development . see what they have done to our poultry , fish and beef industry . until we have people who understand the issues and the true hidden agendas and dangers of such a one sided agreement where the benefits are only for the Europeans we should not engage in any such devastating experiments . Accra - The Legon Police in Accra are at the dead end of an investigation into circumstances under which a pool and several drops of blood got to be deposited in the courtyard of Prof. Kwesi Yankah's residence at No 19 Lower Hill at the University of Ghana.

According to Mrs. Victoria Yankah, wife of the head of the Linguistics Department of the nation's premier university, she found the blood when she woke up at about 6:am on Sunday November 21, this year and immediately raised the alarm.

"What was surprising was that both doors leading to the compound were locked. There was no evidence that the house had been broken into. There was no evidence of injury to any person or the two dogs in the house."

Mrs. Yankah told the Chronicle that when the house boy, Komlavi, who then lived in the boys quarters, closest to the incident, was questioned, he denied any knowledge of how the substance got to be deposited in the house.

"Though he claimed he did not know the source of the blood, the house boy told me that the volume of the blood and the manner of its deposit made it look like coming from a severed arm of a human being," Mrs. Yankah told the Chronicle.

In his statement to the Legon police, Prof. Yankah, brother of Mr. Kojo Yankah, who resigned his post of Minister of State in the Rawlings Government, wrote: "On Sunday, 21st of November 1999, I was woken up from bed by my wife at approximately 7am to see what appeared to be a mystery at the boys quarters. I rushed to the boys quarters to see a pool of blood, partly covered with sand by the houseboy. Even though the blood was largely concentrated at one spot, two rows of bloodstains could be traced to the gate of the boys quarters. The bigger courtyard beyond the gate had two more stains.."

According to the Professor "on questioning our house boy, who has lived with us for four years, he said he has no idea about the source of the blood, and that he woke up to find it there and since it looked messy, he decided to scoop sand and spread over it. Mystified, we wondered if any of our two dogs could be bleeding. One of the dogs was out, but not bleeding. When the second dog later returned, it had no bruises on it. We asked the boy whether he heard the dogs barking in the night, he said no."

Prof. Yankah said they called in the police who responded immediately. Chief Inspector McCarthy, officer in charge of the station, went to the scene with a plain-clothed officer to investigate.

Behind his desk at the Legon Police Station, Chief Inspector McCarthy confirmed Yankah's story and said he and his men were equally baffled by the incident. "For all my experience as a policeman, I can say with all certainty that what I saw could not have been animal blood,' he told the Chronicle.

Meanwhile, Prof. Yankah has sent home the house boy and written to the Registrar of the university, Mr. Ted Konu, to provide his household with security.

About three years ago, while Prof. Yankah was out of the country on Sabbatical, two people attempted to abduct his wife. After a series of investigations the alleged culprits were apprehended but the Attorney- General's Department refused to prosecute the case.

1. 1956, the CPP was outlawed (illegally) in Asante and Abuakwa headed by the Asantehene and Okyehene respectively. Women including the sister of Krobo Edusei were slaughtered for being members of the CPP.
2. In 1958, there was a plot to assassinate Nkrumah at the airport and then overthrow the CPP government as Nkrumah was about to leave for a state visit to India. The plot was discovered and the plotters were arrested (Forward Ever, 1977).
3. On July 7, 1961, two bombs exploded in Accra, one wrecking Nkrumah’s statue in front of the Parliament House (McFarland & Owusu-Ansah).
4. In September 1961, there was a conspiracy among the senior Ghanaian military officers, but the plot collapsed because of the death of the chief conspirator Brigadier General Joseph E. Michel in an airplane crash (Mahoney, 1983).
5. On August 1, 1962, as Nkrumah was returning from a state visit to Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso), and had gotten out of his car to speak to the school children in the crowd that had gathered to greet him at Kulungungu, a bomb contained in a bouquet carried to him by a schoolgirl, exploded; it killed several school children and injured many others. The victim’s bodies bled from cuts caused by the splinters from the bomb (Kanu 1982; Tetteh, 1999). Nkrumah sustained a serious injury but he refused to have any device to deaden his pain while the operation went on.
6. On September 9, 1962, another bomb exploded near the Flagstaff House, where the Ghana Young Pioneers Orchestra Band was entertaining the audience to modern Ghanaian Music. The explosion killed one person and injured many others (Tetteh).
7. On September 18, 1962, two bombs exploded in Accra killing and injuring many people. One of these bomb blasts occurred in Lucas House in Accra, where nine children fell dead on the spot with their intestines gushed out of their bodies (Tetteh).
8. On September 20, 1962, two bombs exploded in Accra, killing and injuring several people (McFarland & Owusu-Ansah).
9. On September 22, 1962, there was another bomb explosion in Accra (McFarland & Owusu-Ansah; Tetteh).
10. On January 11, 1963, another bomb exploded at a CPP rally at the Accra Sports Stadium shortly after Nkrumah had left the scene. This explosion killed over twenty people and more than four hundred people were injured; among the victims were children of the Young Pioneer movement (McFarland & Owusu-Ansah).
11. January 1, 1964, a police officer, Seth Ametewe, was posted on guard duty at the Flagstaff House to assassinate Nkrumah. His five shots missed Nkrumah, but succeeded in killing his personal security officer, Sgt. Salifu Dagarti.

Your list is accurate but you forgot to add that the only people ever convicted of trying to assassinate Nkrumah were ALL CPP stalwarts and that include Ako Adjei.

Not one UP, NLM, NPP or UGCC person was tried and convicted by a Ghanaian court and even then the convictions were passed down only after a Kangaroo court was installed.

Remember the original trial found the defendant not guilty but your hero Nkrumah was not happy and had the 3 most eminent jurists at the time, Arku Korsah, Akuffo-Addo and Van Lare who acquitted removed from the bench.

NKRUMAH A TRUE DICTATOR - The first person to put our beloved Ghana on its current course of ineptitude and misery...Check the works of successive Nkrumahist governments, and that means ALL Ghanaian governments with the exception of the NLC (1966-1969), PP (1969-1972) and the NPP (2001-2008) governments a to total of 14 years in all of our 57 years of political independence.

The track record of the Nkrumahist regimes and government have been abysmal in terms of economic success and wealth creation for the masses. In most cases the Nkrumahist regimes have also had terrible human rights records with tendency to lie and be dictatorial - Case in point, Achaempong regime and JJ Rawlings 19 years in power.

It happened too quickly. The transformation of Ghanaians renowned as peace-loving people into ruthless angels of the prince of darkness.

At the price "Zoom Zoom" gin, Indian hemp, C5,000, T-shirts hurriedly churned out by ASHTEAD (3,000 pieces personally commissioned by a serving Minister of State), a crude assortment of instruments of death, fellow Ghanaians shot, hacked and stabbed their fellow countrymen to death during last Thursday's Kumepreko Freedom March which witnessed the largest turnout since independence of Ghanaians united against a regime and its cruel economic policies.

Across Accra, unbelievable spectacles of man's inhumanity to man played out in various forms.

A young man lay dying on the side of Rawlings Park, blood oozing out from around his upper body, life seeping out of him as the seconds ticked by. From nowhere another man suddenly went close to him. For a split second, it appeared he was going to his aid. Then the unthinkable happened. He picked up an object, aimed and delivered the coup de grace, following it up with a rude gesture at the dying man. He wore what had come to characterise the symbol of the ruling NDC party - The Mark of The Beast - A T- shirt of the ACDR, Association for the Defence of The Revolution led by their lanky secretary who is just finishing his posh house at Tantra Hills.

When the police came to the scene moments later to pick the body, the grey contents of the man's head lay splattered on the floor, soaked in his blood. He has been shot.

One of the on-lookers was veteran journalist, BBC's Ben Ephson. A toughened character who had seen some of the excesses of this administration from the time when they actually cut the back of Kyeremeh Djan and forced him to eat it while he lay in detention. Even he couldn't stand the sight. (pictures available)

Thirty metres away, another young man lay groaning in pain, blood oozing from his abdomen as he oscillated perilously between life and death, cut down by bullets from the ACDRs who had been commandeered by The Minster for Youth and Sports Mr E. T. Mensah, (also putting finishing touches to his mansion at Prampram) and Said Sinare, an Egyptian Mossi kid who was spawned in Ghana several years ago and has grown to be the dumbest parliamentarian in the country.

The motive was to terrorise and break up the peaceful progress of the now famous Kumepreko march organised to signal the Ghanaian's sense of despair over the biting economic hardships.

The collusion of E. T. Mensah is almost without question as calls after calls and Chronicle's own intelligence reports and eyewitness accounts put him. Said Sinare who drove round in a BMW with no registration number and later pajero with a car registration number known to use monitored the progress of their Hell's Angels.

As in most civil conflicts there were a lot of stray bullets and definite reports of "Collateral damage".

Young Ahunu Honger stepped out of his house that fateful Thursday around Tudu to buy "waakye". He never returned. He caught a stray bullet in his chest, very close to his heart. He fell. A motor cyclist showed up on the scene shortly afterwards, strapped the lad awkwardly on the back of his bike and sped off to Korle-Bu, some five miles away. Unknown to him, the boys feet were jutting out. By the time he got to Korle-Bu, his toes had been eaten away by asphalt.

CHRONICLE correspondent Kobina Amoakwa described the scene at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital with a heavy heart. He had earlier rushed to the CHRONICLE office from his assigned beat at the hospital to collect money to pay for the injured who had no money to pay for their treatment:

"It was reminiscent of Ernest Hemigway's vivid description of the "madhouse clinics" of World War I - a steady stream of wounded to the emergency ward, nurses and doctors barking at each other as they battled to save lives.

A muscular male nurse who received Ahunu at the door as he was off loaded from the bike immediately began efforts to resuscitate the boy with powerful heaves on his chest as people stared anxiously.

But alas, the rhythmic heaving of the nurse, broke into a staggered mode, and finally stopped, not because the nurse was tired, but because the little child of God had joined his Maker at age "14".

"Young man", muttered the matron in charge, "we prayed unceasingly this morning but look at what is happening". Kobina Amoakwa, had not response to that one.

But beyond the din at Korle-Bu, CHRONICLE's second team led by Osbert Lartey stumbled upon a scene straight from the horrors of the Liberian civil war.

IN front of the UTC stores, he saw a young man hoisting a blood soaked ACDR T-shirt. Asked how he came about the shirt, he said they were attacked in the morning by the ACDRs who went about in an orgy destruction. When they were pursued by a growing number of people in the area, they began to flee. Two of them were overpowered and beaten, and left for dead.

"They appeared to be lifeless when I saw them", reports Osbert, "and they had no shirt on but blood stained shorts and trousers. There was no police in sight".

The policemen had been overworked. While they identified with the cause of the marchers, they appeared to be cowed by the ACDRs. They knew they where they were drawing their power from.

They had instructions NOT to disarm ACDRs according to one policeman who obviously begged for anonymity. The police were to pointedly deny the spate of "Psyops" and propaganda press statements that went over the air and were credited to them.

News trickled in a day before the march that the leaders had been targeted for possible elimination, and this filtered through to the leaders, but they courageously defied the temptation to postpone the march.

Approaching Bank of Ghana, Kweku Baako tried desperately to divert the multitude away from the armoured tanks and armed soldiers and policemen who had pitched in front of the Bank. From the shadows, four men stepped out pistols drawn. A policemen rushed to Kweku Baako and advised him to move off because his Kumepreko T-shirt made him stand out as a possible ring leader. He gratefully obliged.

"The men just couldn't be ordinary ACDRs. They moved like trained pros", Kweku Baako was to say later.

We know you and your people are forceful campaigning underground anyway. As for this one, 'ekpe le ekpe dzi'. Things are working by remote control. I wish Kwabena Agyepong a speedy recovery. Never trust the Akyem/Asante NPP clicks. They would go any length and do whatever to gain power.
