In the early 1500's, slaves were transported from West Africa to America through Badagry. It is reported that Badagry exported no fewer than 550,000 African slaves to America during the period of the American Independence in l787. In addition, slaves were transported to Europe, South America and the Caribbean.

The slaves came mainly from West Africa and the neighboring countries of Benin and Togo as well as others parts of Nigeria. The slave trade became the major source of income for the Europeans in Badagry.

Nigerian Hotel Shut Down for Serving Human Meat
Acting on tip-offs from locals, police in the Nigerian town of Onishta raided a hotelhotel and shut it down after discovering that its cannibal caterers were serving dishes made from human meat. The police made eleven arrests and recovered at least two fresh human heads from the establishment.

Onishta, in the state of Anambra in south-west Nigeria, is known locally for its busy Ose-Okwodu market – close to which, the unnamed hotelhotel is situated. It is not clear what kind of information the police received or how long the hotel has been serving human flesh to its patrons. Entering the establishment Thursday, they arrested four men, six women and the hotel’s owner. In addition, they discovered at least two blood-soaked human heads wrapped in cellophane, two army caps, two AK-47 rifles and a small quantity of ammunition. The heads have yet to be identified.

Clearly, activities around the hotelhotel had caught the attention of locals. One man who sells vegetables at the bustling market told the Osun Defender “I always noticed funny movements in and out of the hotel; dirty people with dirty characters always come into the hotel.” He went on to say that the grisly discovery did not really come as a surprise.

One of the people who came forward was a pastor who had eaten at the hotel earlier in the year. “I was told that a lump of meat was being sold at N700,” the pastor, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “I was surprised. So I did not know it was human meat that I ate at such expensive price.” How the pastor discovered that he had been served human meat is not clear. 700 Naira is equal to a little over four US dollars.

Nigeria, which is located on the west coast of Africa, is one of the continent’s most populous nations. Covering an area about one-third larger than the US state of Texas, Nigeria has a population of more than 150 million people and is, perhaps, best know in the United States for having an unusually large number of princes, politicians and attorneys who – for reasons known only to themselves – appear eager to depositdeposit huge sums of money into the accounts of total strangers – for a “small” fee, of course.

Cannibalism is not a new horror for Nigeria: In 2012, Joshua Akindele, a 56-year-old man, was arrested after being reported to police for allegedly practicing cannibalism. During questioning, Akindele admitted to practicing cannibalism and also to selling human body parts for ritualistic purposes. He described how he would hit his unsuspecting victims over the head and drag their bodies into a hole that served as his hideout. ”I then…use a knife to cut them into parts which I sell to some churches and some ready buyers who indulge in ritual killing for easy moneyeasy money, and some times when I feel hungry late in the night, I eat some parts for food.” He confessed. Akindele provided a startling price-list for human body parts: A head will usually fetch about N7,500, hands and legs go for N3,500 and a penis will cost N1000. Cannibalism is certainly not an accepted practice in Nigeria and Joshua Akindele was spared a gruesome death at the hands of angry locals only by the timely arrival of a police unit.

Apart from Akindele and the cannibal caterers at the Nigerian hotelhotel, another grisly people-eating story recently came to light in the war-torn Central African Republic (CAR). Ouandja Magloir, known as “Mad Dog,” publicly ate the leg of a Muslim man who was dragged from a bus in the capital, Bangui, by a mob of Christian youths. Magloir told the BBC that his pregnant wife and her sister were murdered by Muslims, during the horrific sectarian violence that has paralyzed the country. Magloir gathered a machete-wielding mob to pull his victim from the bus; the man was then beaten and stabbed, before being set on fire. ”‘I poured petrol over him. I burned him. I ate his leg, right down the white bone.” Onlookers did not intervene but recorded the attack on cell phones. According to accounts, witnesses were horrified, with some vomiting.

The CAR’s former dictator, Bedel Bokassa, was said to have practiced cannibalism and allegedly put human flesh in meals that were served to visiting officials. Bokassa was a brutal ruler who led the country from 1966 to 1979, when he was deposed by French troops. He died of a heart attack in 1996.

The word “cannibal” comes from “Canibales,” the Spanish name for the Carib Indians, who had been known to eat human flesh. The caterers at the Nigerian hotel shut down for serving human meat are, it appears, not unique – although this gruesome practice is, by no means, wide-spread in Africa; the vast majority of Africans are as horrified as anyone else, when such stories surface.

Authorities of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have handed over one of their cleaners to the police as they continue investigations into the disappearance of three babies declared dead by the hospital.

The cleaner only known as Mormen claims to have burnt the body as part of his daily garbage collection but checks at the site revealed no trace of a charred body.

The search follows demands from a mother, Suwaiba Abdul Mumin, whose baby was declared dead hours after delivery.

She said even after she accepted the sad death of her baby, nurses could not hand her the body for an Islamic burial.

"The nurses wrapped my baby and put it where they put the others. I was later told it had died. I asked to see the body and they agreed but I was not shown the body. My brothers went to claim it [but] they could not find my own. I need the body whether in limbs or in full", she told Luv Fm’s Erastus Asare Donkor.

Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Kwame Frimpong, says management handed over Mormen to the police because they were not satisfied with the orderly's explanation.

He says orderlies are responsible for cleaning the wards and not conveying bodies to the mortuary or anywhere else.

An uncle of the victim, Mohammed Abdul Rahman, told Joy News the family reported the theft to the police after consulting his lawyer.

A probe by the Police into the whereabouts of the body revealed the bodies of two other babies could also not be found.

Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer of the Health ministry, Anthony Goodman told Joy News they are determined to get to the bottom of all similar complaints at the hospital.

He says such occurrences undermine the Ministry's efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality and behavioural change in hospital workers.

Father beheads son for juju

»Residents of Sea, near Assin Gangan in the Assin Foso District of the Central Region last Saturday received the shock of their lives when a 24-year-old man, Mensah Adukatse, reportedly decapitated his three-year-old son, Kojo Adukatse, in a nearby bush under strange circumstances.

A source at the village told Daily Guide that they suspected Mensah killed Kojo for rituals as a herbalist in the village raised the alarm when the suspect told him that he had cut off the head of the boy.

Speaking to Daily Guide yesterday, the Assin Foso District Police Commander, Emmanuel Basintale said on Saturday some people from the village brought Mensah to his office, claiming that he had beheaded his son and wanted to run away.

Upon a search of the area, the body was found in the bush with the head cut off.

ASP Basintale stated that the lifeless body of Kojo had since been deposited at the St Francis Hospital at Assin Foso for autopsy.

Police investigations showed that the suspect impregnated one Adjoa Cynthia some years ago and left the village since he was not ready to take care of the child.

Mensah was not seen in the area for a very long time until about three days ago when he resurfaced.

According to Mr. Basintale, immediately the suspect got into town, he went to Cynthia’s house to plead for forgiveness and later played with the boy.

Mensah returned on Friday and Saturday and asked the family to let him take his son for a walk but never brought the boy back. Upon interrogation, the suspect declined to give any tangible explanation for the whereabouts of the missing boy which made the family suspect foul play and reported the matter to the police.

Mensah will be arraigned before court on Monday.

Incidents of fathers killing their biological children are gaining ground in recent times, with two cases being reported in the Ashanti Region and the Volta region.

In the Volta region incident, an I8-year-old father on Monday, November 22, allegedly strangled his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Ruth Adome to death at Lowcost, a suburb of Dzodze in the middle of the night as she lay by her 19-year-old mother.

The teenage father, Dennis Dzagba, a student of the Keta Business College (KETABUSCO), is said to have killed the baby because he claimed his mates at school had been teasing him that he was too young to have a child.

In the Ashanti region, a 25-year-old teacher, Raymond Messisa, allegedly murdered his 2-year-old son, Kelvin Messisa, by breaking his neck, both hands and legs before dumping the lifeless body into a toilet.

Raymond was remanded by a circuit court at Nkawie into prison custody, after allegedly killing the innocent boy at Kunsu near Mankraso in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti region.

Raymond's father, Emmanuel Amaglar, was apprehended by the police for conspiracy

The boys who are friends and lived in the same neighborhood of Lance Corporal Ametepey, stationed at Akuse Prisons, mentioned his name when one of the victim’s parents detected that his son was not walking well and interrogated him.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwabena Gyamera Yeboah, Regional Police Commander, who briefed Ghana News Agency, said one of the victims father, noticed a change in the way his son was walking and inspected his anus and found that he had been sodomised.

He said upon interrogation, the boy mentioned the name of Lance Corporal Ametepey as the culprit and based on that the other two other boys also informed their parents of their ordeal from the prison officer.

The parents then reported the matter to the police and the prison officer was arrested on Sunday on the charge of having unnatural carnal knowledge of the boys and had since been detained for investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have issued the parents of the boys with medical forms to send them to hospital for medical attention and report back for further action.

90,000 kids are homeless in Greater Accra alone - Report

Child protection experts estimate that the total number of street children in the Greater Accra Region alone hovers around 90,000.

A document, titled ‘Census on Street Children in the Greater Accra Region’, made available to The Finder revealed that there were 61,492 street children in the Greater Accra Region as at 2011.

In 2012, an additional 24,000 street children were also identified in the Greater Accra Region.

The 2011 document revealed that girls, some younger than 10 years, constitute 36,280 of the total number of street children in the Greater Accra Region.

This figure represents 59% of the total number of 61,492 street children loitering about on the streets of Greater Accra.

The document revealed that the ages of the street children were between 10 and 18 years, with some being younger than 10 years.

The census covered Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region.

In the Accra Metropolitan area, 50,997 children were counted; in Madina in the Ga East Municipal area, 1,757 children were counted.

Five thousand seven hundred and sixty-eight (5,768) children were counted in the Ashaiman and Nungua municipalities and the Tema Metropolitan area while 939 children were counted in Amasaman in the Ga West Municipal area.

Two thousand and thirty-one (2,031) children were also counted in the Dangbe West District.

According to the document, the census covered age distribution, gender, categories of street children, sleeping places at night, and the types of jobs done on the streets.

It indicated that 28.5% of the children were from the Northern Region, 19.8% from Greater Accra; 10.2% from Volta; 7.5% from Upper East; 7.3% from Ashanti.

The rest are Central Region, 6%; Upper West, 4.5%; Brong Ahafo, 2.9%; and Western, 2.4%; foreign nationals accounted for about 3%.

According to the document, the search for money was the main reason for children being on the streets, accounting for 87%.

The search for jobs, impact of divorce and death of parents were the other reasons.

The document identified malaria, fever, cold, rashes, headache and infections as some of the major diseases affecting street children.

The document noted that it was imperative for government to extend support to poor families with children on the streets through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

It also recommended that government support the department of social welfare to carry out its mandate while giving equal attention to the development of all parts of the country in order to deal with the issue of rural- urban migration.

Child prostitution rampant in Ho

The Volta Regional Coordinator of Victory Bible Church Reverend David Eleblu has said child prostitution was gaining grounds in Ho, Volta Regional capital.

He said though the practice was not openly known, it was a reality, which needed the collaboration of stakeholders to address.

Rev. Eleblu made the observation to the GNA when the Church feted over 600 street children, widowers and widows in Ho to climax its Easter Convention.

He said the situation was getting out of hand and called on churches and other non-governmental organisations to work together to curbing the practice.

“Some of these girls are getting pregnant and we need to offer them help now,” Rev. Eleblu said.

He said girls aged 12, 13 and 14 linger around drinking bars and ghettos at the central lorry terminal and offer themselves for money and that five of such girls and other homeless young people were being housed in his church and given skills and education.

Rev. Eleblu therefore urged churches to get to the ghettos and drinking bars around the central market and take young people off the streets.

At a public forum recently Madam Commend Akpelo, the Volta Regional Chairperson of the Coalition of NGOs in Health, also noted that it appeared some children were into prostitution in the Regional capital.

Speaking at the same forum, Dr. Atsu Seake-Kwawu, Ho Municipal Director of Health Services, appealed to NGOs working in the health sector to “do some field work” and come out with solutions to address child prostitution.

He said the presence of young girls at road junctions, drinking bars and in obscure areas late in the night was questionable and urged stakeholders to act quickly.

Dr. Seake-Kwawu said, “It is bad when you drive round town at night and see these girls in short dresses all over in obscure places.”

He said the situation accounted for many adolescents getting pregnant in the Municipality.

Dr. Seake-Kwawu said it was not surprising that between 13 and 20 per cent of pregnant women were girls in the Municipal area last two years.

He said only 1.7 per cent of adolescents in the Municipality accepted family planning in 2011 and called for “empowerment” of girls to curb teenage pregnancies and preventable diseases.

Dr Seake-Kwawu appealed to churches to establish youth friendly centres where young people could use their energies wisely.

Man Fathers 9 Kids With Daughter, Pleads For Forgiveness

Agbofa Yao Hateka, the 47-year-old fetish priest who fathered nine kids with daughter has pleaded with a Sogakope circuit court to forgive him his sins as he would not do it again.

He has so far made two appearances in the Sogakokpe Circuit Court for having nine children with his daughter, four of whom were dead.

Agbofa Yao Hateka was in the Sogakope court on 12th and 13th July charged with incest. According to the prosecutor, inspector Emmanuel Atsor, the case was reported to the Dabala Police by a certain Torgbey Sekpetey II, chief of Ashagborkope, who is also a tax collector. The complainant told the police on June 7th 2012 that the accused was married to his biological daughter, Baby Hateka with whom he has nine kids. Yao Hateka allegedly impregnated Baby and subsequently had eight other children with her. Out of the lot, there were now five kids aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half old. During the interrogation however, Baby Hateka told the police she had eight other children with her father out of which three died, contradicting the accused person’s narration that he had only a two year old baby with his daughter.

The accused would not allow anybody to intervene as he allegedly threatened people with death if they meddled in his sexual relationship with his daughter. He allegedly threatened to invoke the spirit of his gods to deal with meddlers. The accused told the court that he was both a farmer and a fisherman, although the prosecution witness claimed he was unemployed. Before his arrest, the accused told the police that his daughter suffered from sickle cell anaemia, and had come to stay with him from a cocoa-growing area. Torgbey Sekpetey II had earlier fined the accused a fowl so his daughter could be cleansed before reporting the matter to the police. The case has been adjourned to 20th July 2012 for judgement.**

A 40-year-old welder; Emmanuel Kwesi Yevu, who is accused of defiling his 13-year-old daughter blamed his action on “juju,” (magic) when he made his second appearance before a Circuit Court in Accra.
Yevu told the court that somebody had cast a spell on him because he was getting more customers in his carpentry business.
When the court asked why he defiled his daughter, Yevu said: “My Lord the thing came on me in a spiritual form. I sometimes dream that I am sleeping with my late wife. I took in some alcohol on the day in question before going to bed. I detected that my daughter had placed her legs on mine and I mistook her to be that of my late wife and I defiled her.”
This, according to Yevu, had had happened on two occasions. Yevu, who is charged with defilement and incest pleaded guilty. But just as the court was about to hand down Yevu’s sentence, his brother raised his hands saying he had sometime to say.
Yevu’s brother told the court that Yevu had confided in him that somebody had cast a spell on him and blamed his action on “juju.”
The court presided over by Mrs Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa however sentenced Yevu to 10 years on each of the charges. The sentences would however run concurrently.
The court told Yevu that it only had power to deal with the charges brought against him adding: “You can pursue the juju case at the juju court.” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court that the complainant was the victim’s uncle.
Yevu is the father of the victim. Since the death of the victim’s mother, she had been living with the father at Omanjor in Accra. ASP Acquah said during October 2011, the victim was sleeping when Yevu forced her and had sex with her on two occasions.
After the acts, the victim informed her father that she had not menstruated for the past three months.
ASP Acquah said Yevu knowing very well that the victim was pregnant, gave the victim medicine to swallow and insert some of the medicine into her vagina.
Soon after inserting the medicine, the victim began to complain of abdominal pains and she was rushed to the hospital and a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit at the Odorkor Police station.
The victim was issued with a medical form while her father was arrested by the Police and during interrogation he admitted the offence.

Felix Torgbor, the 45-year-old mason who fathered a child with his own daughter.
A 45 year old mason has been arrested in Accra for forcibly having an affair with his daughter and subsequently, having a baby with her.
“You are very stupid! Which is better? Sleeping with my daughter or running after other women who could infect me with strange diseases which I could also pass on to you?”
These are the shocking words of Felix Torgbor, a 45-year-old mason from La, who was caught by his wife having sex with his 19-year-old daughter.
Apparently, Torgbor began having sex with his daughter when she was only 16 years old; broke her virginity and subsequently had a child with her. He is now in the grips of the Odorkor Police in Accra.
Torgbor’s three-year-old sexual affair finally came to an end when his wife caught him red-handed making love to his daughter in an uncompleted building on the dawn of Saturday August 15, at Russia, a suburb of Accra.
Salamatu, Torgbor’s wife, told DAILY GUIDE that she wakes up very early in the morning, goes to work and returns at 7:00pm.
On that fateful day, she returned from visiting her sister at about 10:00pm on Friday night. She called her husband to join her watch an African movie shown on TV, but he declined and kept moving up and down.
She then began wondering what was making her husband so jittery.
According to her, the TV station closed down around 12:00 midnight, so she went to bed.
At about 12:45am, she woke up to realize that her husband and daughter were not in bed so she went out in search of them.
Salamatu indicated that her husband is putting up a building which is just a distance from the family house where they live, so she had a strong urge to go there to search for them.
When she got there, she saw that her step-daughter had laid a piece of cloth on the floor of one of the rooms and she saw a man lying on top of her.
She yelled and held unto the man only to realize it was her husband who was moaning and groaning on top of his own daughter.
Salamatu said she could not believe that this abominable act was going on right under her nose for the past three years.
When she demanded answers from her husband, he called her a stupid woman.
“You are very stupid! Which is better? Sleeping with my daughter or running after other women who could infect me with strange diseases which I could also pass on to you?” he asked, threatening to beat her up if she shouted.
Salamatu says she raised an alarm, drawing people to the scene.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, District Crime Officer (DCO), DSP Bafour Appenteng said the affair between father and daughter started somewhere in 2006 when she was dressing after bathing.
Narrating the sequence of events, the DCO said it started when the grandmother of the victim observed that her pubic hair had not been shaved. She questioned the teenager who replied that she was scared the razor blade might harm her.
Her grandmother, thereafter, sent her to buy a razor blade so she could shave the hair off, but by the time she got back, her grandmother was asleep.
On reaching home, her father, who was then eavesdropping on the conversation, asked what she was going to use the razor blade for.
She explained what the grandmother had said.
Torgbor then insisted on shaving his daughter’s pubic hair, in spite of her resistance.
According to the victim, her father laid her on his matrimonial bed and shaved her pubic hair after which he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
No amount of pleading could stop Torgbor from carrying out his intentions, and he had sex with her on the blind side of his wife, Salamatu Piaga.
The girl emerged from the room in tears and because her legs were wobbling, her aunties, who lived in the same compound house, asked what was wrong and she revealed to them that her father had just had sex with her.
According to the police, the aunties explained that at the time of the incident, the family was bereaved and so they decided to meet on the matter after the burial of their kin but later forgot all about it, and even though Salamatu was informed about the incident, she chose not to pursue it.
When she quizzed her husband about the incident, he got mad and subjected the child to severe beatings, saying that she wanted to disgrace him.
Later, when the girl turned 17, she got pregnant and left to stay with her biological mother at Osu because her father was furious, claiming his daughter had a boyfriend and subjected her to severe beatings, even though she was pregnant for him at the time.
At Osu, she reported the incident to WAJU but her mother, who did not believe her claims, abandoned the case after receiving a police medical form.
When the teenager gave birth in April last year, her stepmother, Salamatu, went for her from the Ridge Hospital where she delivered a baby girl and brought her back to her father’s house with the intention of caring for her and the baby.
The Crime Officer said when the baby was nine months old, Torgbor, who was eager to re-ignite his sexual relationship with his biological daughter, forced her to stop breast-feeding the baby, which she did.
They continued with the affair until the dawn of Saturday August 15, 2009 when Salamatu grabbed the two seriously making love.
Subsequently, Salamatu packed her belongings out of the house but did not report the matter to the police until her husband was arrested on August 18, 2009, by the Odorkor police who invited her to write her statement.
The victim, who was cuddling her daughter when she spoke to DAILY GUIDE on Thursday, confirmed that the baby, an exact replica of Torgbor, was indeed her father’s daughter.
She told DAILYGUIDE she wishes her father would be kept in jail forever.

Ho, May 13, GNA - Daniel Gadzeti, a carpenter, was sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Ho circuit court on Tuesday for being in an incestuous relationship with his 19-year-old daughter Mabel Gadzeti, a seamstress apprentice.
Mr Frank Owusu Afriyie, the presiding judge, deferred sentence on Mabel Gadzeti until after medical tests for pregnancy and sex related diseases.
Mr Afriyie described the conduct of Gadzeti, a father of four, as "very irresponsible". Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwadwo Nkansah told the court that Gadzeti, who was staying at Nkonya-Ntumda, invited his daughter who was staying with her mother at Nkonya-Tayi to come over and stay with him. He said Gadzeti the n started having sexual intercourse with his daughter. Mr Nkansah said a friend of Gadzeti once visited him and saw him (Gadzeti) and his (Gadzeti's) daughter bathing together and asked him if he was having sexual relationship with her. He said Gadzeti took offence and reported the matter to the chief of Nkonya-Ntumda who summoned the friend before the traditional court which fined him to compensate Gadzeti because the friend had no evidence to support his case. About a year later Gadzeti confessed his incestuous relationship to his uncle, a catechist, and expressed his desire to perform customary rites to marry her and make her his second wife in addition to her mother.
He said Gadzeti's uncle informed the chief of the town and Gadzeti's wife and daughter were summoned before the chief and elders of the town. A fine was imposed on Gadzeti and his daughter which they paid. He said a few days later, information about their relationship got to the police leading to their arrest.Source:

Man Jailed For Impregnating Daughter
An Accra High Court has sentenced Mr Anthony Bleworda to five (5) years imprisonment for having sex with her daughter since she was 16 years old and fathering with her five children, three of whom have since died. Mr Bleworda admitted that he had a strong urge to sleep with his own 16-year-old daughter the first day he saw her after several year’s sojourn abroad.
The daughter, identified as Matilda Bleworda, who is now in her mid twenties, is reported to have later developed mental health problems. Speaking to Peace FM and the Domestic Violence And Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Matilda disclosed that she willingly gave in to his father’s sexual advances the first day she saw him because her father enticed her with lots of money, but the subsequent encounters were all against her will. An earlier medical report had revealed that Matilda had indeed developed mental problems. She however stressed to Peace FM in an interview that she has now been completely cured.
She added that she did not know in the beginning that Mr. Bleworda was her real father. She believed instead that her grandfather whom she had known since her infancy was. According to her she asked the father to stop sleeping with her but he refused, claiming she was married to him by virtue of their having children together.
In an interview with Peacefmonline, the spokesperson for DOVVSU, Inspector Irene Oppong confirmed that Mr Bleworda has been sentenced for 5 years imprisonment. In answer to querries about why the seemingly minimal nature of the punishment, Inspector Oppong said the court took into account the girl’s admission that she was 16 years old when her father first slept with her and also that she consented to the act for which reason he couldn’t be charged with rape.
She explained that the stipulated sentencing range for incest for which Mr. Bleworda was found guilty is between 3 to 25 years. She explained that it took the court this long to dispose of the case because the man was having health issues midway into his prosecution. Peace FM managed to secure a major scoop and broke the scandal to a horrified country in September of last year.

A 47-year-old farmer who fathered five children with his biological daughter is in the grips of the law.
Yao Hatekah impregnated his daughter, known as Baby, when she was 11 years old and subsequently had children aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half-old with her.
Hatekah, who pleaded guilty to the charge of incest on June 20, 2012, changed his plea to not guilty when he reappeared before the Sogakope Circuit Court Wednesday.
According to him, he had one child with his daughter and was not responsible for her other children.
The court, subsequently, remanded him to reappear on July 12, 2012.
Prosecuting, Inspector Emmanuel Atsor of the Sogakope Police told the court that Hatekah began having an affair with his daughter after his wife died.
His alleged incestuous act was brought to the attention of the police by the Chief of Gonu Ashiagborkorpe, near Dabala in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region, TorgbeSekpetey II.
It said the residents of the community had known of Hatekah’s incestuous act all these years but were afraid of him because of his threat to kill anybody who dared to criticise him.**

Later, when the girl turned 17, she got pregnant and left to stay with her biological mother at Osu because her father was furious, claiming his daughter had a boyfriend and subjected her to severe beatings, even though she was pregnant for him at the time.
At Osu, she reported the incident to WAJU but her mother, who did not believe her claims, abandoned the case after receiving a police medical form.
When the teenager gave birth in April last year, her stepmother, Salamatu, went for her from the Ridge Hospital where she delivered a baby girl and brought her back to her father’s house with the intention of caring for her and the baby.
The Crime Officer said when the baby was nine months old, Torgbor, who was eager to re-ignite his sexual relationship with his biological daughter, forced her to stop breast-feeding the baby, which she did.
They continued with the affair until the dawn of Saturday August 15, 2009 when Salamatu grabbed the two seriously making love.
Subsequently, Salamatu packed her belongings out of the house but did not report the matter to the police until her husband was arrested on August 18, 2009, by the Odorkor police who invited her to write her statement.
The victim, who was cuddling her daughter when she spoke to DAILY GUIDE on Thursday, confirmed that the baby, an exact replica of Torgbor, was indeed her father’s daughter.
She told DAILYGUIDE she wishes her father would be kept in jail forever.

Ho, May 13, GNA - Daniel Gadzeti, a carpenter, was sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Ho circuit court on Tuesday for being in an incestuous relationship with his 19-year-old daughter Mabel Gadzeti, a seamstress apprentice.
Mr Frank Owusu Afriyie, the presiding judge, deferred sentence on Mabel Gadzeti until after medical tests for pregnancy and sex related diseases.
Mr Afriyie described the conduct of Gadzeti, a father of four, as "very irresponsible". Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwadwo Nkansah told the court that Gadzeti, who was staying at Nkonya-Ntumda, invited his daughter who was staying with her mother at Nkonya-Tayi to come over and stay with him. He said Gadzeti the n started having sexual intercourse with his daughter. Mr Nkansah said a friend of Gadzeti once visited him and saw him (Gadzeti) and his (Gadzeti's) daughter bathing together and asked him if he was having sexual relationship with her. He said Gadzeti took offence and reported the matter to the chief of Nkonya-Ntumda who summoned the friend before the traditional court which fined him to compensate Gadzeti because the friend had no evidence to support his case. About a year later Gadzeti confessed his incestuous relationship to his uncle, a catechist, and expressed his desire to perform customary rites to marry her and make her his second wife in addition to her mother.
He said Gadzeti's uncle informed the chief of the town and Gadzeti's wife and daughter were summoned before the chief and elders of the town. A fine was imposed on Gadzeti and his daughter which they paid. He said a few days later, information about their relationship got to the police leading to their arrest.Source:

Man Jailed For Impregnating Daughter
An Accra High Court has sentenced Mr Anthony Bleworda to five (5) years imprisonment for having sex with her daughter since she was 16 years old and fathering with her five children, three of whom have since died. Mr Bleworda admitted that he had a strong urge to sleep with his own 16-year-old daughter the first day he saw her after several year’s sojourn abroad.
The daughter, identified as Matilda Bleworda, who is now in her mid twenties, is reported to have later developed mental health problems. Speaking to Peace FM and the Domestic Violence And Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Matilda disclosed that she willingly gave in to his father’s sexual advances the first day she saw him because her father enticed her with lots of money, but the subsequent encounters were all against her will. An earlier medical report had revealed that Matilda had indeed developed mental problems. She however stressed to Peace FM in an interview that she has now been completely cured.
She added that she did not know in the beginning that Mr. Bleworda was her real father. She believed instead that her grandfather whom she had known since her infancy was. According to her she asked the father to stop sleeping with her but he refused, claiming she was married to him by virtue of their having children together.
In an interview with Peacefmonline, the spokesperson for DOVVSU, Inspector Irene Oppong confirmed that Mr Bleworda has been sentenced for 5 years imprisonment. In answer to querries about why the seemingly minimal nature of the punishment, Inspector Oppong said the court took into account the girl’s admission that she was 16 years old when her father first slept with her and also that she consented to the act for which reason he couldn’t be charged with rape.
She explained that the stipulated sentencing range for incest for which Mr. Bleworda was found guilty is between 3 to 25 years. She explained that it took the court this long to dispose of the case because the man was having health issues midway into his prosecution. Peace FM managed to secure a major scoop and broke the scandal to a horrified country in September of last year.

40-year-old welder; Emmanuel Kwesi Yevu, who is accused of defiling his 13-year-old daughter blamed his action on “juju,” (magic) when he made his second appearance before a Circuit Court in Accra.
Yevu told the court that somebody had cast a spell on him because he was getting more customers in his carpentry business.
When the court asked why he defiled his daughter, Yevu said: “My Lord the thing came on me in a spiritual form. I sometimes dream that I am sleeping with my late wife. I took in some alcohol on the day in question before going to bed. I detected that my daughter had placed her legs on mine and I mistook her to be that of my late wife and I defiled her.”
This, according to Yevu, had had happened on two occasions. Yevu, who is charged with defilement and incest pleaded guilty. But just as the court was about to hand down Yevu’s sentence, his brother raised his hands saying he had sometime to say.
Yevu’s brother told the court that Yevu had confided in him that somebody had cast a spell on him and blamed his action on “juju.”
The court presided over by Mrs Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa however sentenced Yevu to 10 years on each of the charges. The sentences would however run concurrently.
The court told Yevu that it only had power to deal with the charges brought against him adding: “You can pursue the juju case at the juju court.” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court that the complainant was the victim’s uncle.
Yevu is the father of the victim. Since the death of the victim’s mother, she had been living with the father at Omanjor in Accra. ASP Acquah said during October 2011, the victim was sleeping when Yevu forced her and had sex with her on two occasions.
After the acts, the victim informed her father that she had not menstruated for the past three months.
ASP Acquah said Yevu knowing very well that the victim was pregnant, gave the victim medicine to swallow and insert some of the medicine into her vagina.
Soon after inserting the medicine, the victim began to complain of abdominal pains and she was rushed to the hospital and a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit at the Odorkor Police station.
The victim was issued with a medical form while her father was arrested by the Police and during interrogation he admitted the offence.

A 47-year-old farmer who fathered five children with his biological daughter is in the grips of the law.
Yao Hatekah impregnated his daughter, known as Baby, when she was 11 years old and subsequently had children aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half-old with her.
Hatekah, who pleaded guilty to the charge of incest on June 20, 2012, changed his plea to not guilty when he reappeared before the Sogakope Circuit Court Wednesday.
According to him, he had one child with his daughter and was not responsible for her other children.
The court, subsequently, remanded him to reappear on July 12, 2012.
Prosecuting, Inspector Emmanuel Atsor of the Sogakope Police told the court that Hatekah began having an affair with his daughter after his wife died.
His alleged incestuous act was brought to the attention of the police by the Chief of Gonu Ashiagborkorpe, near Dabala in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region, TorgbeSekpetey II.
It said the residents of the community had known of Hatekah’s incestuous act all these years but were afraid of him because of his threat to kill anybody who dared to criticise him.**

A 36-year-old carpenter was on Tuesday sentenced to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court for carnally knowing seven sheep.
Kwaku Amable pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Adamu Issaka is a security man with the Kent Security Firm, who live with Amable in the same area at Buokrom Limex Quarry. She explained that Adamu who rears sheep at his backyard noticed that seven of his livestock had died mysteriously within a month.
At about midnight on March 25, the complainant was awoken by the bleating of one of the sheep in a pen compelling him to find the cause.
Adamu approached the pen with a flash light and saw a pair of bathroom sandals at the entrance as well as a towel hanging on the pen.
He became more curious and when he entered it, he detected that one of the sheep was lying down weak and upon examination found out that some whitish fluid was lodge in its vulva.
Adamu became astonished and decided to look round to ascertain who might have entered the pen and to his surprised, the light fell on Amable, who was hiding in his backyard garden naked.
Amable started pleading for mercy and asked Adamu not to disclose it to anyone. The complainant agreed but later changed his mind and made a report to the police leading to the arrest of the convict. In his caution statement, he confessed sleeping with four of the animals on different occasions.

He pleaded guilty to the charges of an unnatural carnal knowledge and cruelty to an animal at a District Court at Dzodze, which sentenced him to 12 months for each charge to run concurrently.
Police Inspector Emmanuel Ankrah at Tadzewu, prosecuting, said Flah lived at Akanu, near Tadzewu on the Dzodze-Akatsi road. He said on November 23, the complainant, the owner of the sheep, returned home at around 1800 hours to find the tethered pregnant sheep missing.
Mr Ankrah said the complainant during a search found it (sheep) dead in a nearby bush with a patch of fluid around its genitalia. He said following a hint, the complainant summoned Flah before the elders, where he admitted having had sex with the animal before piercing its throat with a knife.
Mr Ankrah said Flah was thereafter handed over to the police. He told the court the convict was sometime ago arrested for defiling a juvenile but prosecution was stalled because of lack of interest by the complainant.
Flah prayed the court for leniency saying he was drunk but Mr Anthony Abebrese, Presiding Magistrate, said he was a deviant who should be put away for sometime to reform.

It is a taboo for women to give birth to babies or even menstruate in Dove, a town in the Mafi Traditional Area of the Central Tongu District.

As such, those expecting their menstruation and pregnant women in labour are by whatever possible means carried out of the town. They only return after delivery and after their menses have stopped.

This revelation was made by Dr Joseph Nuertey, the Volta Regional Medical Superintendent, when he delivered the state of health care in the region during the first general meeting of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC) at Ho.

Dr Nuertey lamented that because of the age-long taboo, all efforts by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to establish a health facility to take care of birth and other issues had proven futile. He added that the taboo also forbade the burial of the dead in the town.

The medical superintendent, therefore, appealed to the VRHC to use their good offices to appease the gods in the area to lift the taboo. Dr Nuertey's revelation left the traditional rulers dumbfounded.

This prompted the Paramount Chief of the Battor Traditional Area, Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, to say that he would immediately contact the chief and elders of Dove to see what could be done to resolve the issue

In most circumstances, it is the women, who are mostly farmers that nurture the children until maturity. According to the medical superintendent, he has been told that the gods of the town frown on anybody who flouts the taboo.

Dr Nuertey announced that maternal mortality in the region continued to be too high and this he attributed to the inadequate number of medical personnel and facilities in the region.

The Court was too lenient. On his own plea, he ought to have gone in for twenty-five (25) years. If an indian hemp smoker is sentenced to ten (10) years, then I think the guy deserves a severe punishment.

The salvation of the human soul is more important than all the riches of this world. What people need to think about first and foremost is the saving of their souls through JESUS CHRIST before money, earthly power and others. One day, death will come and know for sure that you can't take a farthing or penny or cent or whatever you call it away with you. You will leave everything behind when you die and where will you go after that ? Be wise and choose JESUS above all others. Selling of people and other sins will all take people to Hell where they will suffer.
