Better help the needy to get out of their needy state to earn their own income and be able to cloth themselves with genuine African Prints and not a life of being clthed with fake pirated Prints.

Tolobeefi, tell us how to get the needy out of their state in especially the system and structures we have in Ghana. Do you know that many people are becoming needy today than 30-50years before? You should also know, that no matter how good the system may become there will still be some people who for some reasons be needy?
Anyway, I think the government's 'wholesale' strategy of dealing with these clothes designs piracy is completely unlawful, in that, the local textile manufacturers could hardly proof ownership of the patent right of some of those designs. Those 'adinkra' and 'gye nyame' designs do neither belong to the government nor the textile manufacturing firms. If the designs are claim to be state property, does the government has patent evidence? Even the local firms may somehow be violating the patent right laws of the actual patent owners.
Bottom line;
1. Only the patent right owners can lawfully take action if the govt's problem is piracy of design rather than quality standards.
2. Sellers would unlawfully be victimised because they did not copy or imitate those designs by themseles. The proper way must be taking legal action against the manufacturers who actually committed the piracy crime than sellers, tailors, wearers, etc of the clothes. Example, how can Apple or Samsung go to retailers worldwide, seize and burn all phones or electronic gadgets that have copied without permission features of their products?
If so, then everything that has design imitation in the country including pens, vehicle parts, houses, news paper sizes, etc must be seized and burned. However, the responsibility is on the rightful patent owners to sue for injuries and not government. More so, they must sue the manufacturers who copied the design and not retailers plus consumers of the design.
The textile retailers can sue the government for economic sabotage for any seizure of their goods because they have not committed any design piracy crime themselves.

Oh Mother Ghana! What do we gain from burning these items? The seizure is already a loss to these importers. Therefore why don't we donate the items to the Weija Leprosarium believing the Father will surely distribute them to the inmates. Don't we have enough needy people in our society? No wonder our leaders look on as our water bodies are being polluted by galamsey . If the decision makers in this outfit really have an iota humane conscience, they would not be taking such decisions. It smacks of pettiness , vindictiveness and settling of a personal score than pursuing a national geared towards discouraging illegal importations. We should act according to logical reasoning.

And Ghana as you know soon these so-called poor people would turn around and sell these donated clothes to the same market people.
Encourage people to buy the genuine ones and help create jobs in the economy so that these poor people and orphans can be recruited to work in these families to earn their own income rather to be clothed with illegal stuff!

If you donate pirated criminal Prints to farmers, orphans and the poor who do you expect to buy the real genuine ones from Akosombo Textiles to create jobs for the workers.
Allowing pirated Prints to enter the market in the name of donations indirectly would help put the genuine Prints out of business and make workers at factories like Akosombo and Juapong poor.
So what sense is there in supporting poor people only to make others also poor.
If government wants to help orphans or the poor it should buy genuine Prints and Materials to cloth them not illegal stuff.
By doing so it would keep genuine workers in jobs. The companies might even recruit some of these orphans and poor people for them to earn money to buy more genuine clothes for themselves.
I say burn the fake materials.!

Would you be buying the ones being produced by Juapong textiles and Akosombo textiles to keep workers in their jobs.
Orphanages are the responsible of government to cloth them with genuine clothes not to use orphanages and empathy to patronise crime and its proceeds.
If government wants to clothe orphanges there is nothing wrong in buying genuine materials from Juapong or Akosombo to clothe them. The orphanages would be helping workers keep their jobs by patronising their genuine products.
