Also, provide stats on goods traded in West Africa first before opening the borders. I see all the goods coming in from China so not sure what the benefit would really be. ECOWAS must first focus on intra West Africa trading before talking about free movement of people which may not benefit Ghana.

I'm a Ghanaian who have travelled several times accross these boarders to Nigeria, the question that comes to my mind always is, What is the importance of the ECOWAS and does the black man think at all. When I travell from Britain to Germany, the road is free without any harassment. So, if we can't think as black people, at least we can copy them.

I woke up here and bought Avocado from Mexico. Red Wine from Chile. Yellow yam from Jamaica. Oranges from Florida. Banana from Dominica. Are you saying that all these countries don't have borders?

You can tear down the walls and if you don't any wisdom to find better ways to trade, the Onions Yam from Burkina Faso just a border away from Ghana would be seized by Boko Haram.

Even the EU have its borders and patrolled by guards, likewise the North America free trade. Again, the border is not the problem. Else, we turn our country into "Drug Haven." Have you thought about that? It is therefore idiotic to suggest that the borders should go.

To facilitate trade among the Nations does not mean we have stop to minimize the road checks and borders. What needed to be done is;

1- The Border guards should have a general DIRECTION of what they are supposed to be done with good entering or leaving the country.

2- Instill DISCIPLINE in our border guards. That nothing is done haphazardly at work. There are times, where 12- 2pm, cars are packed and no one is working at the border because they are all on breaks. That is stupid. Half or the workers can take their lunch break from 11-1pm while half of them are working, the other half come to work and the other take their lunch break from 1-3pm. We can also give them quotas; like 35-50 trucks needed to be worked on for a day.

3- Train our border guards to be DEDICATED to work. We can choose to pay them well and that is probably the first thing to do. We can encourage to zealous with their work and make sure they have a lot of training and promotion.

I can go and on and on, but seriously, Mahama is not fit for this job and people like you should be ashamed of yourself for supporting this stupid idea that could turn our West Africa to be next Columbia.

Other than that, there will be a lot of challenges to the security forces,neglect and abuse of citizens.
That said, I will encourage all Nations in West Africa to sternly work on enforcing identification system of each and every individual in order for citizens to be tracked on daily bases.
Motor Vehicle administration should be made to seem like the entry point of all countries.
If Ghana's economy is great and I want to move to Ghana, I have to abide by the laws of Ghana and also register my presence in Ghana just for future counting and protection.
This can be done and can also lead to mass employment, as people would be able to share ideas based on their traditions, that sells.
Markets will be widely open and inventions and innovations would be encourage. Local products will have it's share of patronage.
This is a damn good idea but the question is how to implement it and successfully adhered to the principles of reconciliation.

Have we been able to create the Middle class economy our government sheer talks about it? Ghanain citizens are living in poverty. There not sufficient infrastructural development in Ghana. How are we as a nation going to cope with all the migrants streaming into Ghana?

John Mahama just want them in Ghana to vote for his notorious corrupt party. Let every citizen in West Africa stay in his country to develop its own country. West African states have not reached that level like the Europeans. There is freedom of movement among European states. Know that German, France or British citizens won't move to another European country in search for green pasture, for the have equally developed their countries.

In this day an age when terrorism is so rampant how to do identify Bokoram people from geniune people? Look at the events that took place in Mali and what is currently going on in Northern Nigeria and that should give any peace loving and security minded person a lot to worry about. Before you start advocating for free movement you should first and foremost make sure there is clear and concise way to know belongs to what nationality through proper verifiable documentation.
