This Fortiz/Merchant bank deal deal from all indications is putrid, it stinks to the high heavens and nothing can justify such an atrocious deal, when Ghanaian taxpayers, from all indications are not getting any VALUE FOR MONEY in this stinking deal. Omane Boamah, MD should seek to explain why an equity firm which cannot even boast of the asset base to even acquire a non-financial banking license, should be made to take on this onerous task of not even a merger, but a full complete acquisition of Merchant bank, when Ghanaian taxpayers, have been offered far, far better VALUE FOR MONEY propositions from identifiable bodies with a portfolio of assets eclipsing over 100 billion dollars? It is indeed mindboggling the level of impunity and recklessness which has been unleashed on the affairs on governance by this NDC gov't. Ghana indeed deserves better than this recklessness which is permeating all facets of governance in this country. It's awfully pathetic.

Mahama and his cohorts are better off doing nothing because whatever move they take,be it social, political or economically they add to the pains of the already burdened ghanaian citizenry.My personal view is that this gov't had outlived it usefulness even before it came to power.It start with the gov't of The late Atta Mills whose economic policies spelt doom but this party was voted once more to continue to adminster havoc to ghanaians under the sadistic and ironic label of a A BETTER GHANA AGENDA.
If really the election result was correct as they made the world know, then ghanaians should blame themselves for choosing hardship and a difficult existence when they could choose a prosperous nation with a well planned social welfare where no-one is left behind.

Do we have the right and qualified and experienced personnel to run Ghana TUC? It is disturbing when one hears TUC leaders in Ghana making statement like- 'we demand increase in minimum wage or else', we demand answers for the falling of cedi' etc. Are our TU leaders really in touch with their international counterparts to know what the economic/financial situations are and seek a better formula in dealing with the situation in Ghana to help the workers? The Trade Union has a duty to seek the interest of their members first instaed in Ghana, the leaders seek their personal and political interest first and thereby make mockery of their leadership by their unintelligent and shallow statements. I would have thought that every TUC leader has at least a basic idea and knowledge to analyse the reason(s) for the falling of a currency i.e cedi. One does not necessarily need the government to explain this occurrence instead the TU should point out the missing or the causes of the fall and should strongly recommend to the government of the day to take actions in making appropriate changes or improvements.

Sometimes the US dollar, sterling, the yen and the rest suffer the same fate as the Cedi. I think that we need more exportations of the local products but we are importing more than we produce. I think that this is one of the problems of the Cedi.

Government is responsible for interest rates, exports, domestic economic growth, infrastructure..to name but a few.
All tools any competent government can and should use to safeguard its currency.
It may not be the fault of the government for the depreciation of the Cedi, bit it is the RESPONSIBILITY of the government to strengthen and stabilise the economy, represented by the Cedi.

The TUC I know since time immemorial works with the employers to benefit the average worker.These days everything in Ghana is tainted with politics. From the labor unions to the church officials. If the leaders of those groups are affiliated to a political party, they tend to skew their thinking and interest to that party taking their followers with them. I am afraid this determination will land all of us on slipply slope that the country is on at the moment.There are no intellectual thinking in the country eveything depends on "are you for or against" the government. People must think that what goes around comes around and no man is an island we need each other as a nation. Stop intimidating and scolding to make your point. ICU can work to bring jobs to Ghana by not posturing and issuing an ultimatum to the government. It will only scare future employers away. ILO and Tetteygah did not act that cray!

Illiterate criminals are no problem to apprehend and prosecute and convict but if these educated ones are forced to be criminals because there are no jobs, God help the nation. Until the sitting president believes in the value and the people of Ghana that we are capable of managing our own affairs and disabuse his belief in all things foreign are good for Ghana, the Mahama regime will not able to position the country for needed lift off to the next stage of the country's development. A joke exists in the Nigerian communities world over that Ghana's banking system has been taken over by Nigerians. Why have as many as five Nigerian banks alone in Ghana? How many European or US banks operate in Ghana? The Nigerians are manipulating the local currency and the pressure on the forex and the nation's reserve is suffering. 2), the government must leave within its means and not above it. The country is borrowing too much from the domestic market by way of government bonds and T/Bills. Next, the Ghana government must cut down on external borrowing. For example why is the government pushing to contract loan for a so-called peace keeping operation in South Sudan and Mali? In the case of S. Sudan, it is a fratricidal war between the former Vice President Riek Machar, long-time rebel leader David Yau Yau on one hand and President Salva Kiir on the other. What are the fighting over? Control of the billions accrueing from the oil sale and tribalism. I hope Mahama is taking a cue from history. No nation develops on tribal lines. Ghana, thanks to Nkrumah, is a unitry country and must remain so if we can not add Togo to it. Don't borrow to keep peace to no where in South Sudan. They visiionless leaders who are sacrificing their peoples for their personal gains. Mahama aban is the only government in Ghana to have want to borrow money for peace keeping ops. All previous governments and most country s world wide generate income from keeping peace. Why is parliament not asking those pertinent questions to the Defense Minister and the president? Too much waste and stealing in the system and these must stop. Finally, like the Vice President said, why is the government rushing to join the Eco currency when all the prerequisite fundamentals in West African economies have not been put in place? Is Mahama surrendering Ghana's sovereignty to Nigeria? We all know why Nigeria would want to have the Eco currency; it will benefit their economies the most. Ghana must not and I repeat, not rush to trade the Cedi for Eco. Look at the history of Euro , UK's abstinence from joining the Euro or surrendering the Pound Sterling and the dismal performance of the New Europe's Euro currency. If Mahama is willing to get and follow the advice, there are plant to gain from Yaw Osafo Marfo, Kwesi Bee and all those who helped to stop the free falling Ghana train wreck in the early 1980s and 90s. Mr president stop the waste in the system and do self examination, including the over bloated staffing in government. Stop banks from bad lending practices, including family members who borrow moneys from banks and refuse to pay. Drag them to court to retrieve moneys owned to Ghana government. Above all, investigate and find out if Ghana government owns DK Poison. If true, ensure that government pays the man with all the deferred interest due him since 1974. Stop allowing Nigerians from controlling Ghana's economy. A president leads and not follow. A president does not lead from behind. Let Ghanaian traders and business' to flourish and implement the laws in books that debar foreigners from engaging in retail trade in Ghana. This is how our mothers lived on to keep us in boarding schools and colleges. In case you are not aware go ask the Ahwoi brothers. They sold bofro boto to survive in colleges. Its no secret in Kumasi. Retail trade must be the sole preserve of Ghanains, no middle course and no way, no how!!!
