To the Honorable Minister, I suggest that you find alternative markets for the cocoa and timber; this should not be hard. And even if it is hard, that is your job.

The EPA is condescending and insulting, and only lazy minds would consider it. Why should the people whose interest you claim to support and protect pay for the inferior goods the EU will export to us? The EU want free tariffs and duties on their products and suggest compensating for that by taxing the poor people in the country whose businesses are going to be destroyed as a result of the EPA? The EPA is analogous to professional footballers betting against an elementary school team on a six against 11 match, and offering the elementary school team new jerseys and boots. Would the new jerseys and boots help the elementary school team?

Why rely on NTE's which is only purchased by Africans abroad...the loss of tariffs far overweigh loss of NTE's. Africans abroad will always find ways to acquire these products so why not dig down and build industries and fact ...

Check with Ghana's embassy in the US for information on Ghanaian-owned produce stores. Follow that up with African-owned produce stores and stores that sell African foods.

Whatever your organisation exports, and I mean world-wide, would not be enough to satisfy half the demand of the African markets indicated above. Just do a bit research and you will be able to garner this information. By so doing, you will not help encourage selling your country and continent for pittance.

Odikr@, the point is there are other markets for whatever you lose to the EU market. There is nothing to stop the EU from branding your "products" as substandard and refusing to allow entry into their ports. What safeguards ...

Do you foresee Ghana refusing any EU product for being substandard? The playing field is horribly skewed in the EU favor. The government should stop kidding itself.

2. Traditional exports of raw materials: cocoa, gold, timber and oil. Estimated value by 2017 $500 billion and falling and rising year-by-year

3. Non-traditional exports GEPA estimated value $5 billion by 2017 and rising by $1 billion with EPAs.

But what perhaps you do not appreciate is,Ghana cannot take a Stand based on Export alone.There's the need to see other merits like IMPORTS under the EPA agreement to throw more light on the Balance of Payment,before a decision could be made,if the leadership knows what they're about and serious.
In case of a imbalance in Favour of EU(which I suspect ) there would be a Serious fInancial pressure on the Country,which translates to means the leadership has signed for our Economic Death Warrant to take the Country back to pre independence Era,till thy Kingdom come.At that point the Country becomes dependent on EU forever (modified -colonialism),which makes our independence meaningless and a laughing stock.
I do not think posterity would forgive those who do that !
Already,Civil Society forsee the dismantle to the foundations of industrialization and eventual total Collapse of our Struggling Industries.And therefore non available jobs, which is more serious, and chaotic than job cuts.
Looking back,Some of these agreement sort to colonized us at the end of the day. How different is the EPA agreement from the others ?
Ghana is not a Constitutional Dictatorship therefore,what stops the present administration to send that EPA Saga to Parliament for comprehensive debate, or a referendum for the people to decide on this Sensitive national issue.
Again,the leadership should be Cautious of if t the final decision is to sign the agreement.
Not to forget statement like "failure to reach agreement,tariffs would be raised on the Sub region" has its underlying current. Why is the EU pushing Africa to sign the EPA agreement,
if really it's a level playing field.
? Member Countries should not allowed themselves to be carried away by those threats.
In conclusion,the present and future welfare of our youth in particular and Ghana in general should be of paramount Concerns to Consider on that EPA Saga.
It seems there are more questions than answers. Why has GEPA not venture other markets around the world as a planned measures over the years( I stand corrected) to broaden or increased the export base .
Anyway .
