I questioned why he never addressed any Muslim communities in Takoradi, Ho, Cape coast, Sunyani and the other Regional capitals.
Mills was clearly on a wicked anti-Ashanti and divisive ethnocentric agenda.

Last week, he was in Ksi and he found time to talk to Muslims separately.
He has toured all the regions but he never addresed muslims separately in any of the regions.

How does one apologize for something one did not say or do? I think all these organizations jumping to demand an apology from the President have an ulterior motive to not only embarrass him but force him to admit what he might not have done, and then use that incident to whip him out of the Presidential contest in 2016.

Why wouldn't they encourage the ascertainment of what he said or meant first? Let's face it, Kumasi is the stronghold of the NPP and if the President even meant to tag the Residents there with ingratitude, it should not offend anyone but his political opponents. And in that case, what would be the news? The President has every right to portray his political opponents in a disadvantageous light, just as the opponents have been doing to him all these years, almost daily. Don't let us act like we have not seen the many "Pepeni", "Tani" insults rained on the President and Dr. Bawumia in the Media. Two wrongs do not make a right and I would not endorse the President to pay back with such uncultured bigotry. But given the facts in this case, it is not even as these loudmouths want to drag the issue and pitch Ashantis against the President. Look, folks all these energies poured into chastizing the President for that fanthom of an allegation, could be channeled into brainstorming for solutions to our Economic woes or even into alerting him on our disenchantment with his handling of the Economy. We are yet to see a pesewa of the monies due us from the phoney Judgment Debts. We have not seen anyone prosecuted from the findings of GYEEDA and SADA. Yet, we have a consensus on the Corruption that wrecked these Organizations. Why waste time on this bogus charge instead of taking the President to task on those Corruption scandals? The tribalism charge here is a cheap, weak shot. If supporters of Akufo-Addo thought they could pull a parallel to his infamous bigoted "Yen Akanfo de.." utterance from this issue, they are wasting our time and underutilizing resources needed for more crucial problems.

The evidence strongly suggests the President was referring to his political Opponents with that remark, not to Ashantis as a Tribe. In fact, he could have as well mentioned the whole Ashanti Region without necessarily implying Ashantis as a Tribe. After all, Kumasi and the entire Ashanti Region comprise People of all tribes and and even Nationalities. These opportunistic Tribal Politics and blatant bigotry must cease.

It is appalling that in this day and age, we still make a Regional or locational Citizenry an automatic Ethnic attribute.

What if the President had made that comment about and in the Western Region, or Volta Region, or Northern Region where the Population is more diffused among various Ethnic or tribal groups?

We should not forget that it was in Kumasi that Rawlings earned his controversial nickname "AKONTA A OYI AKWAN", meaning the 'Brother-In-Law Road Builder'. To those who coined and used this nickname for Rawlings, it was meant to be derisive and even derogatory, and implied that Rawlings was only good to them as a Road Builder. For those who don't know the History of Road Building and Maintenance in Ghana, our Roads were the sole responsibility of the Government's to construct and maintain for a long time. Much of that work was the duty of the PWD (Public Works Department) and it entailed tedious manual labor of physical exertion with little pay.

The Road Building and Maintenance jobs were considered purely laborer work that many Akans, including Ashantis, shunned. If you were a PWD laborer, you were relegated to a perceived sub-class of social prominence. At least, you were regarded as a pauper.

Therefore, when Rawlings earned that name, it was in such sentiment that the coiners of the nickname perceived him. So, bluntly speaking, we, Ghanaians, have a history of being condescending to others even when they have been in service to improve our lives. Pure and simple.

Therefore, when President Mahama said that even if his Government were to pave the Roads in Kumasi with Gold his Administration would still not be appreciated, there is a precedence and some truth to that. But even in that case, it is not every Kumasi dweller and certainly not every Ashanti that would have that perception of the Administration. And the President knew that enough to direct such a comment to his Political Opponents, not Ashantis.

So, why should he apologize to anyone? In fact, I was living, working and attending University in Kumasi at the period when Rawlings was paving Kumasi Roads that earned him that nickname. Most people I encountered appreciated the work he did. Yet, the few that were never impressed were vocal enough to propagate that nickname in derision of him.

Folks, let's be real. All said and done, it is the tribal Politics in Ghana that is getting the better of us and we should change that to make significant progress in Ghana.

Again, on this issue, the President did not insult Ashantis. Period! And we should not make an issue out of it.
