Mr. Adjei, you made a very intelligent comment. It is the kind of serious objective thinking we need to mend the broken pieces of Ghana together.

We cannot build a progressive Nation if we keep drawing upon old scores and grudges to divide the Country. Even if an individual once had an unpleasant experience with another, it is always worthwhile to seek a better way forward and reconcile.

Our politics has long been ethnocentric to the detriment of our Nation's growth. We cannot continue like that and expect that, somehow, the Nation would emerge successful and prosperous with poverty almost eradicated.

Intolerance of one another is a facilitator of nepotism, cronyism and corruption. It makes it easy for us to deny others we do not agree with opportunities they deserve more than those we share ideas with. Our ideas might suck, yet such intolerance would block us from accepting the contrarian but better ideas from those we can't tolerate for flimsy reasons.

Who says the Otumfuor cannot choose what Party he wants to align with? He is first a Ghanaian, and has every right to support any Political Party he deems most fitting to his aspirations.

Ashantis should be prouder to have a King of this open-mindedness. And if he is truly a supporter of NDC, it goes a long way to debunk the long-held belief in the country that Ashanti Kings are driven only by their ethnic heritage to support a political Party.

That likelihood, even though unexpected, sets the Otumfuor on a lofty pedestal in Statesmanship. I say 'unexpected' because, formally, we would expect our Traditional leaders to be non-Partisan.

Yes, as a human being, Asantehene might have inclination towards Ndc and that is his prerogative but even our constitution stipulates Chiefs and Kings should not engage in politics. Apart from that, the culture of Asantes prevent him as Asantehene not to engage in politics.

Asantehene himself has warned Asante chiefs not to involve themselves in politics. As the Asantehene, he is obligated to have good relationship with whoever is the President of Ghana to see to the development of Ghana as a whole and Ashanti region in particular.

Whatever his political preference is, he is obligated not to display it in public and I believe Asantehene has been successful in doing that. He was accused of being Rawlings, Kuffour and Mills friends when those men were President.

Asantehene himself is aware of this and said so in the news today. Let's leave the King to live his life the way he wants it instead of trying to put him in any political party, he is above party politics.

I do not need to declare which Party I belong to, or support, when arguing on issues of National importance. I do not derive any exclusive joy in knowing a certain celebrity or eminent Ghanaian shares the same political Party with me. I support or denounce issues not personalities. I have chosen this independent status for facilitating my objectivity. Something you surely seem to lack or loathe.

Having brushed that speculation of yours out of the way, I would like to emphasize that the Asantehene has not publicly declared his support for any Political Party anywhere. All you and others have been blungeoning the Otumfuor for has been nothing but a more accommodating protocol towards the NDC Presidents, Rawlings and Mahama than you wish. What would you have the Otumfuor do, grimace perpetually at the Presidents when they visit with him? It is a mark of utmost Statesmanship that the Otumfuor shows all politicians visiting with him. Many that have paid courtesy call on him have left with the indelible impression of his exemplary affability and sharp wit. That is the kind of leadership we should all be proud of and embrace for reciprocal conviviality among our Leaders.

I would challenge you to admit that the reason why you are upset with the Otumfuor in showing such warmth to Mahama and Rawlings is not because you believe in the Constitutional precept of Traditional Chiefs keeping their Partisanship in wraps but that you have long held, possibly in secret, that the Otumfuor is supposed to be a lifelong Patron of any Party claiming to be an incarnation of the UP/NLM.

Come on, who are you kidding,here? Sarpong, you should ease up and let go those old political grudges to be more objective. You and have trodden this path before, bro. The pains of the past must not always reign in how we forge ahead. Sometimes we need to even embrace our fiercest enemies to recognize our courage in full.

If anyone mentioned aloud that even Prempeh the II in his later days developed some affability for the late Nkrumah, many Ashantis of shallow insights would argue frentically. But such was the case. That did not mean the late Prempeh II abandoned his people, as many today want to portray Otumfuor Osei Tutu II for warming up to the NDC derived Presidents.

Otumfuor has not displayed any support for NDC in public. Period. So, chill. If anything at all, consider it as a strategic alliance for the sake of his people.

Oops, I've got to go. But I'll reach you later on this,if need be.

Don`t forget that the "Okumkom" was a 'controversial' supporter and then member of JJ`s administration,and had been moved from the KMA to Accra for a reason. Besides, palace insiders and watchers that included his own wife and other key Ashanti NDC political operatives like Ohene Agyekum(Ash. Reg Minister), were all aware that Nana Akwasi,though a bona fide contender, was not the odds on favourite to ascend to the Golden Stool.
But the current Otumfuo had listened to good advice from his mother and uncle,Nana Kakari,a once powerful Kumasi CPP politician,to return home from abroad,and to quietly position himself within the palace circles 'under the radar'. This strategy partly explains why Barima Kwaku Dua was an unknown beyond Royal and Manhyia Palace circles. He was urged to court the friendship of prominent paramount chiefs,which he did to perfection;thus his nomination encountered no hiccups. And don`t forget that he and 'big' brother,Nana Akwasi belong to the late Otumfuo Prempeh 11`s line.

I write this with reference to your uncouth utterances (2009) made against the Asantehene, Asante Chiefs and Asantefuo in general at the forecourt of the Osu Slave Castle when the Asantehene and a retinue of his most senior Chiefs paid a courtesy visit to ‘thank’ you and the government for the assistance you provided during the then recently held funeral of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.

Sadly you and some of your cabinet members and NDC leaders such as Faustina Nelson and Kofi Awoonor used the occasion to spill uncouth verbiage.

So, if you have now realized you cannot bring KOTOKO down, I say merci beacoup; and join you (as you wrote) in wishing “Me ma Nana Osei Tutu II, Afenhyia Pa .”
