A surgery that cost $5000. in the US cost $1000 and $600 in Cuba and India respectively and that's what motivates people to pack their bag and go.
The cost of everything is higher in Ghana than even in the US where people make between $12 to $100 an hour.
In India for example, there are affordable five star hotels where you could stay pre and post surgery.
When asked on CNN how they could perform world class surgery at the fraction of the cost in the US, the answer was they teamed up to negotiate for equipments like IMRs from the manufactures to beat down their prices therefore making it easier to be that competitive.
In Ghana we stand up and copy things without sitting down to think it through.
There are nasty hotels charging between $100-$200 a night. That's never an environment to even think of establishing medical tourism. The hotel fees alone will bankrupt you before the doc takes your vital signs.

and WAAKYE. If a Government led by Corrupt Dramani Mahama can spend $2 million on Tea and Waakye, when the
people of Ghana cannot even get water, electricity, employment and other
meaningful facilities in our democratic institutions, what exactly

If Ghana needs a world-class medical facility, what prevents Ghana from establising one? I think what Ghana needs first is a world-class leadership and everything will fall into its rightful place.

Ghana needs world class medical facilities in all the 10 regions of Ghana, not in Accra. The Ridge hospital renovation amount could built two of such facilities easily in any 2 regions in Ghana, but what do we see?

Speaking with circumspection is not a very common thing with Ghanaian politicians. Why NOT say "Ghana needs a world class medical facility"? Where it is situated does not immediatley become the issue.

This showcasing happens in every administration. They come to US cities, meet all these influential people in some of these working institutions in America, go back home and do not follow up. This happens with both NPP and NDC governments. Our leaders are not serious. I do not care what we need, if we do not come to these people as partners, America will never respect you or give you a thing. This world is about what you give in exchange of what I have. Trust me, we are in for trouble as a nation, if we do not change our mindset.
And I tend to agree with one who said, we have to take up cleaning our environment. To me, that is where we need to start to build out health crusade. Do not jump into something we can not sustain. Let us be real with ourselves. Take care of our own living environment. We can start with getting raid of the dust. That's my two cents on this issue.
