This tells you that the shoe factory is dead on arrival, it will end up like Ghana airways, the golden tree factory and other government run enterprises. I wonder why we do the same things and expect different results. The government can't pay teachers, you think they can maintain a shoe factory to provide free shoes for students? Where is the electricity to run the factory anyway? Until we revamp our infrastructure and privatize, our factories will end up the same way.

ONLY 3% OF THE TOTAL VALUE,ACCRUED.
Galamsey operation does nothing more than our land degradation,yet they are the ones our jewellery industry dwells on.

We must move into the era of music/movies as a service (MAAS). At least 7 out of every 10 songs, movies and TV series played on our television stations, radio stations and entertainment centres must be wholly Ghanaian and must be produced in Ghana. These stations and entertainment centres must pay on a monthly or annual basis royalties to the Ghanaian artists. The amounts paid must be reasonable taking into consideration the profits of the entertainment establishments. However they must not pay any money whatsoever to the foreign artists because of the negative effect it would have on our GDP. The Ghanaian artists must use wholly owned Ghanaian banks like ADB. Many people can recall great shows like: Kukurantumi-road to Accra, Ultimate paradise, By the fireside, I told you so, things we do for love, Akan drama with osofo dadzie, obra and co, home sweet home, TV theatre, Dr Paa Bobo´s songs etc

We need a progressive policy. All adverts in Ghana must be created by wholly owned Ghanaian businesses and the songs and celebrities in the adverts must be wholly Ghanaian. The celebrities and musicians must receive royalties. All the wholly owned Ghanaian entities must use wholly owned Ghanaian banks like ADB.

There is lack of will and this must change.

That is why, it is good that regions take some of these responsibilities by inviting investors,and that is exactly what the government is doing. If we still insist that golds produce in Ghana should be refined in Ghana, then we should be equally prepared to foot the production cost. And so it is with all other products that are being turned into finished goods outside the country. Communism has no place in this modern world. Even the Rusians are diversifying their economy.

Uncle Kwesi Pratt did not say the govt. should invest in golg refinery but he wondered why the Forum did not look at the strategic importance of refining gold in the country.What it means is that our economy needs divesification.We should be looking at different areas to create jobs and prosperity but not sit down unconcerned while all the natural resources in the country is been exported into the advanced countries,leaving us poor and unemployed.This is the essential logic of his statement.Mind you,the commodity prices change rapidly in the world market.The price of unrefined gold can fall drastically within some hour and that can affect all the sectors in the economy with a terrible shock.That is what Ghana is going through today,from GDP 14% to 7% and from 9.8% inflation rate to 18%.This is what we call geopolitics.Thank you.

The foreign company's ability to foot production costs and set up costs are guaranteed by their respective governments.Why can't the same be done by the Ghanaian government for competent citizens who can handle these mines?What are the millions of universities opening up in Ghana for then?The capital invested by these foreign companies into our mines are even written off in their taxes to us anyway so there is guaranteed payback.
Please remember that RAW capitalism isn't favourably for the average African,a combination of socialism and capitalism will work magic for Ghana and Africa.
Don't follow the European standards blindly.this is the biggest flaw of the African.You must learn to carve your own path,looking at your situation.

Secondly Ghana's economy has been in a mess since 1966; the illusion of progress comes from those in the 1percent group who have stolen from government coffers without paying a price, those who mismanaged government funds to enrich cronies and family, those in professions who were bribed by governments past and present to lie to the public and those who have carved out salaries and benefit packages for themselves that are essentially pay without any meaningful work
Everyone else has been stuck in the early 60's in Ghana.We are filthy, normalized cut throat money hungry attitudes and selfishness. We are in an economic mess brought on by decades of incompetent parliament and highly educated individuals with economic degrees but clueless on the application of those economic principles learned and their effective application in the Ghanaian or Afican environment. They had assumed the conditions in Western developed nations where those economic theories thrived in their application will be same in Ghana but failed. It is time for every Ghanaian to contribute their 2cents and not let bribed journalists and their thieving friends in politics screw up again.

What is new about "...ensuring macroeconomic stability, creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, growing the export base of the country, as well as limiting government borrowing from the Bank of Ghana"? Are these the reasons why they spent our taxes in Senchi? I am really shocked that our policymakers and the contributors are that shallow-minded and very foolish.

How about (1) building a fast railway system from the Accra to the North through the major regional centres? Follow this up with another one east-west across the country? Can you imagine the economic gains we will get from this only move? This could be done with one of the major companies like Hitachi, Siemens, on build operate and transfer basis. This will create jobs, transfer technology, will reduce the crazy accidents on our roads.

How about encouraging IT services and asking all government agencies to do all purchases online? Over-staffed public sector and redundant government employees will find jobs in the private sector, and our hospitals, schools, teachers will be well-catered for.

Guys you did not think outside the box.

To doubt the integrity of all the participant and accuse them of passivity in the face of Galamsey is inappropriate. Those who sold Ghana's minerals are known.
