Just read the language of the Nana Addo supporters in reaction to this article--very insulting! No matter how difficult things are in Ghana, Ghanaians will vote against arrogance, war mongers, tribalists, elitists, drug addicts, dubious lawyers, etc in 2016. The NPP communicators are just doing the campaign for the NDC unknowingly-they just put a lot of people off when they are heard speaking on radio and tv. The economy will not be the major issue in 2016 elections just like the NPP mistakenly thought Woyome would be an issue in 2012.

A big delima for NPP to choose between Nana and Allan. The problem with Nana Addo is that he has many negatives to attract floating voters. Core NPP supporters can cry themselves hoarse but the truth remains that the leopard cannot change its colours. The issue with Allen is that just like Nana, he was too ambitious,and tried to claim the NPP position through the back door using his kinsman Kuffour. Trying to reap where he had not sown. So why not try Bawumia if the NPP wants to ballance the equation? Now the million dollar question is what will happen to NPP if Nana Addo is beaten again by President Mahama? Don't say it would not happen. The quality of the candidate and his appeal outside his core party base in Ghana is more important than the economy of the country during elections. JJ, and Kuffour won second terms not because the economy was performing better during their time. There is more to it than merely happing on the bad performance of the economy. That would never translate into an instant electoral victory. Ghanaians have not reached that level of sophistication to vote on a single issue. Even the likeability of Obama overweighed the dire economic situation of the US in 2012. The candidate himself counts for more than 70% of his own chances of winning.

The perspective of GAKE is well understood but the issue goes beyond just ordinary party politics. There are other deeply seated issues that GAKE needs to come to terms with. Unfortunately, the precedence set by the initial synergy of NPP is what is causing this whole "Nana Issue". Remember the NPP is an amalgamation of the Danquah/Busia tradition. In the years preceeding 2000, the only way to have won any presidential elections in Ghana was to galvanized the opposition into a united front. The notion of Ashanti/Akyem taking turns in the party's candidature for presidency started right from the inception of the NPP. Unfortunately, that notion has become a "canker" and polarizing the party. Another reason why GAKE is going nowhere with Alan is the fact that former President Kufuor made it too obvious that Alan was his boy. Actually, had it not been Kufuor nobody would have known Alan. The issue is, if Alan wants to win the candidature of the NPP, He needs to do a lot of damage-control. GAKE would have to tell Alan the "truth"....these PR "gigs" is taking Alan NOWHERE. Even if Alan wins the candidature, he will still have problems galvanizing the NPP party to victory. "Abofra onim nensa hwohoro na one mpaninfo didi" literary translated: "the child who knows how to wash his hands well eats with the elderly" Alan needs to take the "Chip off his shoulders" so he could start connecting with the elders in the party.

I am an adent supporter of the NPP since the very time I got to know what politics is and have always voted for the NPP. I campaigned for the NPP even in my days in school. Why is Alan and his supporters attacking Nana Addo? Does Nana Addo impose himself on the party or he's elected by the party's electorate to represent them in the presidential election? Alan and his people should stop the crab and rather get ready to support Nana Addo and Bawumia to win the election in 2016. In any case should Alan win the flagbearership of the NPP (which I know will never happen), I will not only defect to probably PPP, but I will vigorously campaign against the NPP. Alan is not a faithful member of the party. He only comes in when there's some ups for grabs and goes into hybernation when his interest is over. The NPP as it is now, without Nana Addo, the next CREDIBLE person is Dr. Bawumia. Alan should get it clear that he'll NEVER be the flagbearer of the NPP.
