I used should to support this Tekper guy to be given a bit of time to see if he can do better, but this senseless declaration by this bereft man has really confirmed this lack of confidence in him.
Tekper has been speaking of "medium term" "medium term" policies which is supposed to be a culmination of short-term policies, yet the NDC and his Ministry has shown nothing so far in both the short-term and the medium-term. All his political life falls in the medium term range, so when does he want Ghanaians to see when his medium term bears fruits, after they are gone?
The periods he referred to as the most significant poverty reduction achievement was under Kuffour's NPP government and leadership which was excellent. Yet his NDC governments under both Atta "mess" Mills and corrupt and incompetent DRAMANI MAHAMA who thinks leadership is mere rhetorics have decimated every single achievement by the Kuffour administration. Thank God, discerning Ghanaians now have two benchmark governments - Nkrumah and Kuffour's regime to judge good leadership and governance. CORRUPT AND FOOLISH NDC GOVERNMENT.

Sometimes it is good to put our emotions aside and speak to the facts. This Finance Minister is one of the most honest we have had thus far. He didn't make any attempt to even talk about poverty levels now because some will read politics into it. Indeed, if you look at the existing data regarding poverty levels, especially extreme poverty defined as prevalence of people who live on less than US$1.25/day, you would notice that it has come down significantly to below the 20% mark, indicating that we have achieved MDG 1. Poverty is indeed reducing because there is some grwoth in the economy over the past years. In the last decade, our growth has averaged over 7%. Infrastructure is growing though at a slow pace, and production, in terms of food crops has seen tremendous growth, averaging over 5% p annum. Prices have gown up for most food commodities making farmers to make incomes that are able to pull them out of poverty, though to levels that still show that they are vulnerable to shocks. So we are doing well as a country. I don't care whether it is the NPP or the NDC that engineered the growth, but what I know is that, each and every government is significantly adding on to the growth.

Finance Ministry noted that the incidence of poverty declined from 39.5 percent in 1998/99 to 28.5 percent in 2005/06. So it was the NPP that generated the growth. NDC, ensure that the rate goes down even further.

Indeed poverty levels reduced significantly during the Kufuor NPP era, however the same cannot be said for the NDC era, and those are the facts.
