It was the culmination of a 16-year effort to retrieve the money, it added.

To secure it, Nigeria agreed to drop a legal case tied to Abacha’s family.

Abacha ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998 and is thought to have siphoned billions of dollars into bank accounts across Europe.

Transparency International says the dictator stole as much as $5bn during his five-year rule.

“We can confirm that Nigeria will on 25 June 2014 receive the sum of euros 167m ($227m) from the government of the principality of Liechtenstein, part of looted funds recovered from the Abacha family,” Nigeria’s finance ministry said in a statement.

Cases dropped

The recovery of the money had been blocked by legal action brought by companies linked to members of Abacha’s family.

The companies’ complaints were withdrawn following negotiations between the governments of Nigeria and Liechtenstein last month.

Nigeria says it plans to invest the money in a sovereign wealth fund for the benefit of future generations.

Separately, Nigeria agreed on Wednesday to drop charges against Abacha’s son, Mohammed Abacha, who was accused of unlawfully receiving $2.7m of government money from his father.

Liechtenstein is not the only European country to recover Nigerian state funds, with Switzerland so far returning some $700m.

Earlier this year, the US froze some $458m hidden by Abacha in bank accounts in Jersey and France.

Abacha seized power shortly after the 1993 elections were annulled and went on to become one of Nigeria’s most notorious military rulers, accused of stealing billions of dollars from the oil-rich nation.

Ghana will have been way-way a better place and ahead in social economic developments and democratic practices in Africa had the unfortunate and senseless overthrow of Dr. Hillah Limann and his government not happen under the most notorious monster killer Rawling happened.

How come his wife the most heartless cruel-some woman in Ghana owns almost all the former state owned enterprises the husband privatized including hotels, factories, buildings and state land properties like the La Palm Beach hotel, Star Hotel Nsawam Cannery, the former state fisheries trolleys, GNTC and all that?

Until Rawling and his accomplish criminal wife and kinsmen like Tsatsu Tsikata and co are brought to justice, Ghana will never see peace or any economic recovery as we are all cursed by the blood of those they killed to imposed themselves on us whilst we stood by doing nothing under the gun as captives.

Never in the history of mankind has any man terrorized a nation for so long, like the twenty -nine years reign of J.J Rwlings, absent Adolf Hitler's Nazi reign of terror over Germany, and gotten away with it without paying a price. And just as a non- credentialed Hitler surrounded himself with Drs Goerring, Himmler, Boermann,etc, Rawling had his Drs Botchways of Ghana.

But unlike Hitler who blew his brains out and departed this world with his wife Eva Braun-took poison, on April 30, 1945, this Rawling guy is still straddling Ghana's political landscape and living the good live with his wife. He of the man, who in his mad rush to purge the country of corrupters of the public purse exiled his distractors to the far corners of the world.

Here is a guy who believing that he's the collusus of Africa- won't listen and take advise from experts - proceeded to sell off the country's heirlooms - Gihocs, etc , bequethed to the nation by the greatest visionry leader of all time Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah,on the advise of some young wet behind their ears staffers from the World Bank and the IMF- diversification they dubbed that sell off.

Folks it is state-ownwed factories that are churning out China's manufactured goods the world is hauling in. But don't blame the Chinese they've been as shrewd as they come from Mao on down. From the memoirist tale of Nikita Khrushchev's "Krushchev Remembers" we read on pages 463- 464 how Mao outfoxed Joseph Stalin who had taken a liken to canned pineapples. He directed his secretary " Get off a message to the Chinese that I'll like them to give us an area where we can build a pineapple cannery." Mao's response is for the ages and canned- pardon the pun. He said, "We accept your proposal. If you are interested in canned pineapples, then give us a credit loan and we will build the cannery ourseves. We will then pay back your loan with the produce from this cannery.
Roles are reversed now,but this time the Chinese have taken a liken to chocolate so they want chocolate powder and which country can best produce the powder but Ghana. And which better person for the Chinese to go into business with - they made sure though they have a controlling interest with a 51% of the company's equity- but Mrs Konadu Rawlings to produce the cocoa powder for the Chinese chocolate factory ? See the irony -crony capitalism that Rawlings railed against and businessmen lost their businesses and some their livelihoods,the same thing Mrs Rawlings is doing, so to quote President Bill Clinton, " Why accuse a man for doing the same thing you are doing?" In Rawling case, granted it is in the past, but people lost their lives and fortunes.

Folks don't let your heart be troubled because the good news is there are leaders in the country as I write, who have their skin in the game because of their pedigrees, are patriots and no stench of corruption that anybody can attach to them. They are out there and we just have to look for them, support them- with top notch ideas, organisation and financial backing. And, we have to draft one of them to run for the presidency of the republic.

Folks, Kofi Wayo is right about Rawlings but he's in the past now and the country has to move on. Let's get cracking.
