Kudos to the Mahama Government for this Transparent Reporting of Oil Revenues. This is in line with EITI requirements. But while all Ghanaians now know the source of funds, Government should also let all also the uses of these funds. Publicizing the achievement of the Government through such transparency and good governance will go a long way to alleviate poverty while bringing down CORRUPTION tremendously. Good Job to the Mahama Government.

Did all the exploratory companies combined invest US$2billion in the development of the oil fields in Ghana? The answer is no. Did they spend a US$ a billion? The answer is no. What then is the ROI for both investors and managers of these corporations? What is Ghana's cut? Do economists and business savvy people think our cut is reasonable? It is not good enough by any stretch of the imagination that our mineral and natural resources are being depleted for development in worlds far away while Ghana gets pennies that are nowhere near enough to cover the natural and environmental disasters that will happen in the Western region of Ghana as these operations continue. Nigeria's Delta region has been destroyed and will not support descent human existence again even with multi-billion revenues generated from its oil fields. There are those who cherish the pennies on the return Ghana get because they have never had any foresight and too foolish to learn from history. Going bananas over the pennies we get from oil show the sad state of affairs in Ghana where the sound of money lures even our best and brightest into signing the house away without thinking. Should Ghana's leaders not have learned from mistakes in the gold and diamond mining industry?

Kwame, you are praising them for transparent report. Why don't you ask them to tell Ghanaians how they have been spending the 2 billion. This revenue doesn't reflect the economy. Don't be ignorant.

I totally agree with you, Akwasi. In fact, if you read the whole piece I wrote, you will notice that the second part asks the Government for accountability of these funds. My title is positive because everyone deserves a pat on the shoulder if they do something positive. I find the Government's initiative in this respect to be positive. But they still need to show us how they have been using these resource revenues for inclusive economic growth in the country. We shall be watching to see if this was just a one-off hype or it is going to be a regular reporting by Government going forward.

How fair is this? Our own oil - forge that the machinery, equipment, personnel, etc. - are not ours, but how fair is this that we get revenue of just 17billion barrels while these others take away 87billion? Oh!
