Who even calls this guys energy experts? They should tell us the capacity of nuclear plant they want to build and let's to the energy/ engineering analysis. I wonder why people fail to understand the core challenge to our unreliable energy supply. first strengthen the distribution and transmission system, make the little you produce more reliable then you can talk abt an alternative base generation. and who even said nuclear is a necessity. Why not channel the potential investment for nuclear into energy from waste. solve our waste management n energy problem with one approach...just kill two birds with one stone. Effective collection of waste because they will be needed by the power company for energy production and the country gets additional energy in return. will someone tell us our energy deficit with bui coming online and let's the capacity of nuclear these are proposing..Then we may see whether this makes any economic or engineering sense

Dr. Sogbadi is either stupid or just trying to make himself important. Ghana cannot handle our common household waste and he expects us to handle our nuclear waste properly. We do not even have enough water for our households and industries and he believes we shall have extreme large quantities of water to cool the plants. Even developed countries like Germany etc are shutting down such plants and this Sogbadi guy wants us to start one with our limited resources and nohow. This so-called policy advisor is just a JOKER.

Energy is vial to any economical growth but not nuclear energy; rather solar, gas and other renewable energy will be sufficient for Ghana.
The nuclear energy toxic waste alone will cause Ghana billions of dollars to maintain in addition to its danger to the health of the people.
Ghana cannot even clean trash and develop its sewage and the drainage system how much more a dangerous nuclear waste. The government is so corrupt that it is laughable to believe what they can and can not do.
Even the developed countries with nuclear technology are running away from it how much more undeveloped country like Ghana with no educated nuclear experts who can handle any spill of nuclear waste or for that matter an accident like what happened in Japan.
Please Ghanaians let us be real that these officials are there for their pocket and not doing what is right for the country.

I get sick in my stomach when I hear people advocating for Ghana to go nuclear. I wonder where the motivation of these latter day nuclear experts come from. We live in country where for 56 years we have not been able to to manage refuse composed mainly of Kenkey leaves and plastics. We leave in a country that cannot manage ordinary burns from wood fire in our flagship hospital. We leave in a country where we cannot properly manage ordinary dam water and yet people are clamoring for a nuclear plant. Well it will not be in the back yard of my holy village. That so called Head of the nuclear program in Ghana can put that nuclear plant in his compound or bedroom . These are the people who have academic degrees but no sense. There is no sane person who will advocate for Ghana to go nuclear when we have more than enough sun to top into, where we have more rivers to dam and where we have enough wind along our coast to tap into. Those loose talkers must give us a break. We are sick and tired of these half-baked failures parading as experts in Ghana. We cannot allow them to destroy the little we have with their violent mediocrity.

LET'S FIRST get the MAXIMUM from these sources and IF still NOT sufficient, we can look around!
Let's START with CSP(concentrating Solar Power). Spain has 5 running.Approach them to LEARN about the method!
We'll wait till some young Guys from WB/IMF come down to ask WHY we are NOT looking into Solar seriously and we then JUMP on that bandwagon!!!!

I think those responsible for wanting to introduce nuclear energy to boost Ghana's energy crisis should think again and reconsider the notion of nuclear energy as a NO GO Area. We in Ghana are simply not matured enough to manage nuclear installations. The current project maintenance and management teams at the VRA can not even cope with the simple hydro-electric energy generation installations now - how are they going to maintain nuclear energy generation systems which may require intensive specialist knowledge in nuclear technology? The Ghana government would do well to invest in solar power resources and research for future applications.

These researchers and Energy Policy advisors of Energy Efficiency and Conservation and Alternate Energy haven't done their homework.
They haven't exhausted all the alternatives. Should have done cost-benefit analysis of all the likely energy mix.
Our ability to convert sunshine into usable energy has become much much cheaper far more rapidly than anyone had predicted.
Are these researchers and policy advisors aware that the cost of electricity from photovoltaic , or PV, solar cells is now equal to or less than the cost of electricity from other sources powering electric grid?
Are these so-called researchers and energy policy gurus aware that Germany, Europe's industrial powerhouse, have dramatically scaled back its nuclear energy programme, now generates about 37% of its daily electricity from wind and solar; and analysts predict that number will rise to 50% by 2020.
Even in the US, 166 coal-fired electricity-generating plants have either closed or have announced they are closing.
Are these experts aware that enough raw energy reaches our planet from the sun in one hour to equal ALL of energy used by the entire world in a full year?
Considering our unfortunate culture of poor maintenance, Fukushima will always be on the minds of Ghanaians, with the mere mention of nuclear reactor.
