Acquire a loan & instead of using the funds to invest in something meaningful, you want to use the same money to buy cheap pads from china & distribute it to school girls for free.

I WENT TO SCHOOL IN THE '60S WHEN MUM'S OLD CLOTH WAS USED AS TAMPONS (AMOAASE). EVEN THEN, THE AGYEIWAAS, YAA POMAAS, ASANTEWAAS, BOADIWAAS, ETC CAME TO SCHOOL EVERY MORNING.
NOW, THE LACK OF SANITARY PADS HAS BE COME THE REASON WHY THE GIRL CHIL DOES NOT GO TO SCHOOL, EBEI, NUK3DJOR?
PLEASE MAHAMA, GIVE US A BREAK.

The government was emphatic that these pads are meant for SHS girls, what happens to those at the JHS since the average girl in Ghana now starts menstruating at least on or before JHS 1. This government we know cannot be trusted, we will rather prefer the world bank to deal with NGOs on this issue than NDC. The money will by all means pass through wrong hands

I could remember that in 1965 the opposition in Ghana propagated the falsehood that Kwame Nkrumah's socialism means that there will be hostel for men to visit women who will not work but are to be visited by men to have children. Some churches even went to the extend of telling us that the agricultural policies that were to make Ghana food self sufficient will make the country like Babylon, where the emperor said that God should feed the birds of the sky and he feed his people. We were also told that socialism is about people wearing the same kind of dress, mainly khaki.
I have four daughters and the last one is seven years old. I bought sanitary for the three who are adults, whiles they were in school and one is still in school.
The matter is that whiles we to not want to challenge God in the provision of food countries that challenge nature in the provision of food have done better. Among the then developing countries China and India are still using the same method to feed people. I have been informed also that though a Lebanese company import wheat to mill into flour for us the country Lebanon does not import wheat or potato to feed her population.
I think that the issue if sanitary pads is like a person in need of brush and polish to polish his or her shoes. We are all aware of what polish does for shoes. So it is the same thing that sanitary pads do for women and girls. The fact however is that those parliamentarians against the buying of sanitary pads for girls buy the same for their wives and girlfriends and that is the double standard behaviour of the opposition.
They believe that people should not challenge nature because by doing so they are challenging God.
But the acts of a reasonable being is the negation of negation of nature that is the reason why it is only reasonable beings that live in society.

Such things like sanitary pads, pencils, chalk, text books and uniforms etc should be financed by us Ghanaians from our own resources and taxes. That is the argument of the opposition. Are we such a hopeless and irresponsible country? How can we distribute 100,000 laptops at a cost of GHC 800 each to schools and yet cannot afford to provide the students with essential items like books, chalk, and sanitary pads to the needy?That is what is expected of a responsible government and our leaders. This is the crust of the matter. Distributing laptops when we don't even have contineous power supply may have been a vote winner but a bad decision. Our priorities are messed up, these politicians are taking short term decisions aimed at the next election without a care about the impact it would have on us as a nation.

The point you are missing is that should we BORROW to do this. Why cannot the government invest the $15 million facility in the production of the sanitary pads to make it sustainable and also pay FOR the loan itself.

As per the present conception, the program is not sustainable. It rather brings unnecessary tax burden to the very people it is supposed to help.
