Fashion Awards MD 2014 - Named Among the Best& Most Notable Fashion Events in Maryland*

Exciting news and another feather added to the already colorful and fashionable cap belonging to Afua Sam of Studio D’Maxsi who wins the award for the ‘High Fashion Designer’ category at the recently concluded Fashion Awards MD.

Founded by Lana Raeto honor the growing fashion industry and talent in the DC,Maryland and Virginia metropolitan areas; the well-attended occurred on June 21, 2014. It took place at the Brown Center at MICA located at 1301 W Mt. Royal Ave, Baltimore, MD 21207. A red carpet event with, cocktails, VIP reception, lots of media presence, distinguished guests and lovers of fashion.

It was hosted by the winner of Cycle 8 America’s Next Top Model, Jaslene Gonzalez. Afua Sam, Chief Operating Officer of Studio D’Maxsi says; “The opportunity of coming to America came through my work as a fashion designer. Even though I did no have any family here at the time, I took a chance with the hope of making it work regardless. *

Having faith in God was and still is the reason for taking that chance. The award was a big surprise to me because I have been a nominee for 3 years in a row. My category is a highly competitive one. I want to thank the Fashion Awards MD Organization and Lana Rae, the founder, for this honor and everyone who has given me opportunities throughout my journey. Also family and friends who have been there for me and supporting me with prayers and all the fantastic team and clients that I have been blessed to work with. *

Afua Sam is also the recipient of the 2013 African Fashion Awards USA as the ‘Best Designer of the year’ and she was also recently cast in the noteworthy DC Fashion Documentary *‘The Politics of Fashion DC UNBOXED’.*
