John Dramani Mahama has no shame and no credibility otherwise he would have appointed this one and only good NDC man Attorney General, not today or yesterday but the very day he assumed the mantle of leadership of this country. But alas, he himself is soiled with corruption big time, hence wouldn't want somebody like Amidu looking over his shoulders. The only way Mahama can win the trust, respect and confidence of the people back in fighting corruption, is to get this man back as soon as possible in the AG's department. I think that Slam's comment is the most sensible comment I have read on this site in a long while. When I was growing up, my father taught me this truth: that no matter how bitterly I fight with my brother, I should never allow any outsider to join me fight my brother and that as soon as an outsider joins me to fight my brother, I should abandon him since he is the true enemy and rather fight alongside my brother else if I help that outsider to fight my brother, I cannot have a truly loyal ally when I later fall out with that foreigner. In sum, blood is thicker than water. This advice helped me and my brother from allowing any outsider to come between us to date. The result has been that we are two brothers who have developed a bond closer than twins even though we disagree on many issues and sometimes fight (i.e. verbally) to this day!
The people of the US know this principle of self-preservation very well and no outsider (i.e. foreign country) is able to come between the Republicans and the Democrats on any issue concerning the American national interest. Regrettably, one cannot say that Ghanaians are anywhere close to learning such a lesson about national self-preservation in the collective interest. When I read the ignorant comments of Ghanaians on this site, all I feel is grave sorrow and despondency for my motherland, Ghana!
When will we have my father's calibre of leaders to come together to groom us on how to handle national affairs in our own interest collectively? I honestly believe Kwame Nkrumah was one such forward-looking national father but who else can we have such hopes in after Nkrumah?

Its inappropriate for a diplomatic agent to make digs on the internet about their host nation; I thought that is one of the purposes of being in that position is to be diplomatic. comments as such should not come directly from a platform such as the US Embassy, they can be made through other avenues but when it comes from the Embassy then it suggests that there are some seriously heavy antagonistic undercurrents floating from a superpower such as US to Ghana (which may not be the case) and that is where it becomes inappropriate. I am inclined to believe that US is still peeved with the Ghana Government under NDC because of the stance President Atta Mills took against the sale of shares in the oil business from one US company to another US company without giving the Ghana Government the right of first option to buy those shares. The Mahama administration is of the same mindset on this issue of Ghana's share in the oil business. Now, if Ghana is able to increase its share in the oil business, is it not Ghanaians and their economy that will be the beneficiaries? Is it any wonder that strings are currently being pulled to get the cedi to fall like water dropping from a sieve? The US and its allies did some of these things to Nkrumah's Ghana before the 1966 coup but we are so illiterate as a people not to learn any nationalistic lesson's from history.
Advance countries like the US always look for their long term national interest whilst we foolishly fight over empty concepts short-sightedly. Long live wise and BIG BRAINS like Slam!!!!

Hanna Tetteh, you should have known that two wrongs do not add up to one right. As Ghana's Foreign Minister, I expected you to deal with this serious diplomatic blunder by the US Embassy in a more matured manner but not in the same infantile behaviour of the US Embassy. You should have summoned the US Ambassador to your office, give him a good dressing, tell him that it should not happen again and a personal apology to the President.
In any case, what was posted by the Embassy is the official position of the Embassy and that is the message being given to Obama's administration. It is a fact, though undiplomatic on their part to make it public through Twitter. That is why donor partners are refusing to support Mahama's government because they can see Mahama and his appointees living in luxury, whilst the majority of the people are in poverty. They can see the mismanagement and corruption by state officials and they read about the payments of dubious judgement debts such as Woyome. They know about the waste through GYEEDA, SADA and Subah Infosolutions, etc. So, why should they use their tax payers' money to support inefficient, wasteful and corrupt government?

The way she uses her Twitter accounts reminds of 5 year old kids in Toy r US or Candy shop. She spends more time thinking of what she will tweet than what she has to do for the country.
Her first announcement of assisting Ghanaians in Egypt during the crisis was to put information at her Twitter accounts asking Ghanaians there to call the embassy in Cairo for help. That was when I realized that we are dealing with bunch of novices.
Yes, I heard from NDC supporters that Hannah was going to send some of US embassy staff back to the States and that was why the US apologized, I did not know she was getting her gloves off to start a Tweet fight with the US.
Kofi is right, what the Minister should have done was to call her counterpart and demand answers and request that nothing of that should happen again whether it was retweeted or not.
What a bunch of clueless ministers.

I think, quite frankly, Hanna Tetteh's handling of this 'Diplomatic Twitter row' has been disappointing, pathetic and embarrassing. As Ghana's Foreign Minister, Hannah Tetteh should have summoned the US Ambassador to her office over the tweet, and NOT another Twitter spat.
If you want to keep your dignity, pride and respect as a State, don't go cap in hand to foreign donor countries who will disrespect you in your own country.

What the Embassy tweeted is basically true reflection of what most Ghanaians are thinking and saying about the President's appeal for sacrifice. However, the way the tweet came out sounded a little undiplomatic and could easily be construed by the NDC majority as a typical pro-NPP US Embassy attitude.
It is not very long ago when the Embassy refused our Ministers Visas to attend a Meeting in the USA because of the Embassy's perceived opposition with the Government's strong questioning of the Kosmos-EO Group Contract that the NPP mainly supported.
There could be a backlash against the US Embassy even though the essence of what it tweeted is true.
Hannah Tetteh, on the other hand, is only doing what any responsible foreign Minister would do. If this were the other way around, we would even hear US Congressmen and -women jumping in to denounce us an advising their Government to withdraw some Aid to us.
The Ghana Government brought this upon itself. After waiting this long without any substantive action to curb blatant Corruption within it and the having the President's own brother displaying such offensive luxurious living, why would observers not chide the President for calling on others to sacrifice anything?

If they are failing, they should be put on probation. If they do not improve, they should be removed. The operational efficiency of government businees should be carefully monitored. By the way, in Estonia, they have a paperless government. All government directives are electronic and are tracked and saved for future reference. For Tax collection I have a few proposals. Ghana has more serious economic and social problems which Ministers should be spending their time helping to solve rather than tweeting about an issue which the US Embassy apparently has apologized. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should spend some of their precious time coordinating with the Ministry of Trade and other government agencies to help expand Ghana's foreign trade with the US and the EU. Machoing about one small issue is not going to put food on the table of ordinary Ghanaians. Let us place our priorities where we maximize the interest of our motherland and forget about our ego.

Any serious President in today's world do not personally tweet as he is trying to do, just like most Ghanaians would like to show off a new toy, be it phone or car.
Its unnecessary and cheapens a person or the office of the presidency.
And I must admit anybody with some brains within his two ears would not spend precious time writing 140 characters of text message to address major issue facing his country.
What the novices of politicians do not know is that the power of the modern technology which gives you chance to reach millions in a second or at the speed of light also gives others chance to reach you or get back to you with nonsenses equally at the speed of light.
So the lesson for from the US embassy saga is that Mahama must to STOP tweeting and be serious about tackling our problems by chasing and following sector ministers and appointees to make they are doing their assigned jobs and not what the likes of RAS Mubarak (now in suits) and the Hannah Tettehs of this world would tell him.
