  Don't expose your ignorance. There is a nuclear reactor in Ghana which is being operated by Ghanaians if you don't know. Please keep quiet and go to GAEC to find out.

They are going into solar, dams,wind-energy etc. Nuclear reactors will be purchased from off their nations (not on their territory). So what is the need for Ghana to fallow the old dangers of nuclear energy? Ghana has not ripe for that stage in nuclear. Ghana can not manage chicken eggs production. Why do Ghana leaders always think as if they are brain sick. I cry for my country.

  ...why not use simple 'tsina fee' (cow dung) to produce biogas for electricity or better still the sun for solar energy? Why risk Ghanaian lives for mutation and scrotal content melting eeh?

  Not taking risk is risk itself. Almost all nations in the world will go nuclear anyway. You can choose to take the lead or wait and buy it later from the established operators.

  Great idea and a big step towards the right direction. Nuclear is the answer to a 24/7 Constance energy supply. We cannot depend on hydro-electricity and other erratic energy systems if we are thinking of development. This is in line with the vision Dr Nkrumah had for the country. Nuclear safety is almost a thing of the past as new technologies are available to build and safely run one. Give credit when credit is due. The present government is embarking on infrastructural upgrades needed to push Ghana into a developed country.
  1) Nuclear Energy
  2) Build an Oil Refinery Plant
  3) Improve Roads by maintenance
  4) Improve delivering of clean water
  5) Encourage Made in Ghana products
  6) Encourage Housing
  7) Encourage agriculture
  8) Provide free education - High school level
  9) stimulate the house of chiefs in government.
  10) Encourage freedom of speech by media houses and public to say any nonsense they wish.
  
  I think Ghanaians need to start thinking positive for any government that comes in with ideas to move the country forward than just being against it because it is not their party ruling. At the end of the day, progress is for every Ghanaian. Its True that you will have budget deficits if you embark on infrastructural upgrades and the value of cedi will go lower - that is a temporary opportunity cost. When everything is running right the benefits will come to light. Maybe then, the party that started the process may not be in power to enjoy the benefits but is a way forward.

  Because of neglect by previous governments- if you own a car, you know you have to do route oil change and maintenance - right! if you neglect it, you will eventually not have a car.

  Although the first nuclear power programs were launched in the United States in the mid-1960s and in Europe in the early 1970s, due to concerns about fossil fuel depletion and the desire of several countries to reduce their energy dependence on such fuels, Ghana is yet to fully commit to this course.
  The inclusion of nuclear power in Ghana’s energy mix to augment the overall installed capacity will significantly reduce the perennial power crises this country faces.
  The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission has successfully operated a Research Reactor for almost twenty (20) years without any hitch. The experience gained from this operation coupled with advances in modern nuclear safety technologies places the Commission at a position where it can successfully operate a power reactor.
  The establishment of the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences (SNAS) has helped trained the requisite manpower needed to successfully operate, maintain and decommission a nuclear power plant in collaboration with the IAEA and other strategic International Agencies. In addition, the establishment of the Nuclear Power Organization (NPO), which is involved in implementation of the nuclear power programme in collaboration with other stakeholders such as the Ministry of Energy, Energy Commission, Volta River Authority, ECG, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, among others, shows the efforts Ghana is putting in place to operate our Ghana’s first Nuclear Power Plant.

  2. Countries around the world are moving AWAY from nuclear. Cheap to generate the power, yes, but the costs associated with maintaining are too expensive. Even after you stop using the reactors, you still have to pay millions just keeping the decommissioned plant safe.
  
  3. $2.5 billion.... ha. In Gh, everything will cost more than the liars and cheats in gov't say, so after spending $3.5+billion which we already don't have, where will we be.
  
  4. Why after spending all this money on WAGP, gas processing, TOR, gas barges, etc.... why don't we first maximize the investments we've already made and build more gas and oil power plants. We already have the raw material (gas/oil), we've built all these pipelines - just build more gas factories.
  
  All this talk of coal plant from China, nuclear plant from China. Are we not thinkers - the Chinese are in the business of building.. giving us loans, requiring that we use the loan to pay them to do something that we don't even need. Perhaps this is the blackman mentality - someone is giving me money, so it must be a good thing, good day. WAKE UP. Do what's best for Ghana

  Name me a developed country that don't have a nuclear plant? The key to development is to have a consistent power supply for manufacturing. We can't even operate the bauxite melting plants for steel due to lack of constant electric supply. Since the 60s under Dr Nkrumah we have been experimenting on a miniature nuclear plant - mention any problem we have encountered in relation to safety. you probably don't know we have a nuclear plant and in fact we were supposed to have a bigger reactor than a test reactor under Dr Nkrumah. The delivering of reactor was diverted after his overthrown. To grow there are risks involved. Ghana is not afraid to grow. It is a long term goal - 10 to 15 years.
