Claudia, What is the point of beauty contests at all? To show that you are beautiful because you were not born handicapped and that you came from good looking parents? Why don't men engage in "handsome contests"? Men would rather spent time studying physics, chemistry, math etc. In the end, they end up with the beautiful girl who could have become a doctor or physicist, but for the time wasted on beauty contests. Unless women become less observed with beauty and hit the books, there will continue to be less representation of women in the sciences and mathematics!

Okay, let's begin to dissect a few things here. After reading this particular article, amongst many others in this "Untold Stories Behind MGUSA" series...I felt the need to share my unbiased opinion. First, I really wish people would stop comparing the Miss Ghana USA pageant to Miss Universe and Miss Ghana etc. Miss Ghana USA is only 4 YEARS OLD!!! The other pageants referred to have been around for decades--so let's end the comparisons right there. You can not compare an organization funded by billionaire tycoon Donald Trump to one founded by a young, Ghanaian woman trying to do something for her community. Contrary to popular believe the organization spends more money on the pageant and doesn't make ANYTHING BACK.I could understand if the organzation was making money off of these girls but believe most of the funding comes from the director's own pocket..not really sponsorships and she does not get ANY of that money spent back! I mean just this year we were able to stay in an amazing apartment in Manhattan for our pageant house. I have competed in other pageants and let's just say we did NOT get any of that. You were responsible for everything including shoes and opening number attire..EVERYTHING! Secondly, If people have certain views on the pageant , as GHANAIANS, we should be able to sit down collectively and work on them. Bashing the organization is certainly not the way to go. I for one remember the first Miss Ghana USA pageant and honestly speaking It did look disorganized and I made that clear verbally. However, in the last 3 years i have seen tremendous growth from the organization and that's what it's all about for me. As long as you are growing and getting better each year that speaks volumes to me...so much that I actually decided to become a contestant in this year's pageant and I was a finalist. Like many of the girls stated in their articles I noticed some things that needed improvement and some loop holes that could be filled to make the organization better. Now I'm working with the Miss Ghana USA Organization one on one to ensure that some the issues addressed by these girls are resolved for a better experience for all contestants. After going through the pageant myself, i was able to clearly define where the shortcomings laid and provide sustainable solutions to them. What many of these girls failed to acknowlege is that MGUSA is a representation of all Ghanaians and instead of sitting down, complaining and pointing out errors HELP the organization become better! That's what i did: I identified some of the major issues and I teamed up with them to help eliminate those issues and make it better! Not to mention: the organization has a lot of programs that give back to the community. They have various programs set up in Ghana that give back to chilren with autismn and disabilities--not to mention they have given me a platform to launch and bring awareness my non-profit REVAMP Africa,Inc. THESE ARE THE REAL UNTOLD STORIES THAT YOU DO NOT HEAR! The pageant and the organization is just another tool to help young women accomplish their goals ang give back to their communities. If you come in for solely prizes (not saying any of the girls did), you may want to reconsider. I guess my point is that as a people we should try to build each other up, and I'm not necessarily saying what the girls are saying are invalid/right/wrong etc. What i'm saying is that we work together and come up with a solution because if one of us looks bad, all of us look bad (Ghanaians). Let's build each other up and not tear each other down.

This "bring him down" attitude is very typical of Africans. The first 3 articles did not mention any names, they talked about the organization in general but the 4th articles sounded very revengeful and meant to destroy someone's reputation, someone who's equally a young Ghanaian, a former contestant who is doing her part to improve the organization. My question is, have you tried to influence any change besides this personal bashing. You don't need to throw someone under the bus to make your point. You can never do anything positive for Ghanaian without any scars, be prepared to be crucified. Keep up the good work you do for autism awareness Ellen, some of use know your work. I can see envy a mile away, especially on this 4th article. Girl bye!!!!

If Africa were to have more daring women like you, maybe the continent wouldn't be so plagued with criminals (politically and socially). Our continent wouldn't be at a standstill; Africa would actually be moving forward if more people would exercise their freedoms, rights, and beliefs. Young woman, you are bold, and rare; do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Thank you for sharing your story. You are a very good writer by the way, and I am looking forward to hearing more. To those pageant people: I am not surprised. You should be very ashamed. Ashamed of disgracing Africa like this, and feeding into the negative image that the world has of us. Shame.

If Ghanaians continue to simply sit back and overlook poor management of businesses and organizations, then the country is going to remain at a standstill and never progress. You can talk about the Miss Ghana USA Org all you want, no one will fault you for that, but it is soooo wrong to attack someone personally on this medium and get the nerve to talk about bullying, are you kidding? Yes, Ms. Ellen is fab, and very smart, I'm sure you've seen her credentials since you seem to know her life in the media. The teachers in Ghana cannot wait for another autism training from Ms. Ellen, your family should be proud. I smell envy all over this 4th article.SMH
