  I graduated from KK Adarkwa,s dept of planning in the 1990's. It is the useless degree in the whole world. Your transcripts will not even transfer to major universities in the US. And since planners are not involved in Ghanaian politics they cannot influence the decision making process at the helm of affairs. What has NDPC done over the years to help mother Ghana?

  we really need such discipline to help build our country...planners are very important in every country,d problem here is that,our leaders are myopic and until they realize the importance of planners in every sector of the economy,im afraid ghana will still be in the stagnant position it is currently..

  Yes, we agree, "objective of planning will not be achieved if there is high level of political interference."
  
  Yes, planners work withing a "legal framework." This also means that planners work within a political context. They may be "the brain behind every successful economy," but credit usually go to political actors most of the time.
  
  Crucially, to the extent planners do not control resources, planners must depend on politicians. Planners must depend on the same political actors to "buy-in" to visions/plans framed by planners with input from multiple stakeholders (i.e. community actors, including politicians).
  
  Therefore, planners are only successful to the extent they are professional, believe in the role of science, recognize the inter-disciplinary nature of their profession, have capacity/ability to think critically, and are able to "organize attention" of political actors to achieve community goals on all fronts (environmental, economic, transportation, physical/land use, social, adaption/preservation of culture, education, health, tourism, agriculture, industry, etc.).
  
  In sum, in Ghana, planners' "contribution to national development" has not been "overwhelming." Many planner, including their teachers, parents, and professors, are unable to think critically and act accordingly.
