Because NDC never presented any serious program during the campaign they were just busy debunking the NPP's free SHS program, and some people voted for them and now we are suffering. Next time look at the track record of the party and flagbearer and their programs and not tribalism and lies before casting your vote. Looking at what is happening by the day there is no hope in sight.

John Dramani Mahama has no shame and no credibility otherwise he would have appointed this one and only good NDC man Attorney General, not today or yesterday but the very day he assumed the mantle of leadership of this country. But alas, he himself is soiled with corruption big time, hence wouldn't want somebody like Amidu looking over his shoulders. The only way Mahama can win the trust, respect and confidence of the people back in fighting corruption, is to get this man back as soon as possible in the AG's department. Anything less than that is just lip service.

How can we waste the talent of such a person as Mr. Amidu baffles and boggles my mind. Are we that stupid? Damn!

Imaging in even nigeria toyota van can be cleared from harbor less than 1500eur right now but in ghana same van is about 4500eur to be cleared,why only stealing ghana govt want,they do not think at all.Now to work here and safe 4500eur in america and europe it can take around 3 yrs working hard.
Govt must rethink now and make things easier for all.

What is wrong with the conscience of these rogues who have pledge to sell everything in Ghana to foreigners with the aim of receiving just dividends for children’s children. They survive on the booty their fathers looted after overthrowing Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Today they have sold and misappropriate these ill-gotten wealth bequeathed to them by their forefathers through dirty campaign. This is what is making him to defy nature about his health condition. Nana sources of income did not come from his personal sweat. They want Ghanaians to be sub-servants to them whilst in their own thinking and mental deliberations; they remain perpetually slaves to neo colonialism.Today, you can see and hear anyone blaming leadership by just talking and blowing false alarm. However, if you analyse those personalities in question you can easily tell that they are more corrupt than whom they are accusing of corruption. The voice of the wise have been watered down and rubbished. The use of gullible words is more appreciated and encouraged and this is what is being imbibed into the minds of the mass illiterate and semi-literate people in society. What can Nana Addo differently of which Mahama is not doing? This is what he needs to dialogue and preach by using of decent language.

Talking about Terkper's reputation...because he was with the IMF as a technocrat for VAT implementation in developing countries such as Ghana which he was able to get because of his experience in implementation of VAT in Ghana??? That's actually what disqualifies him as a substantive finance minister. I have worked in Finance and accounting for years now here in the states and hardly would you see a tax person becoming a CFO or equivalent...there is a reason for that. Tax experts are not financial engineers by nature...tax is policy, law, it is status quo..it does not follow any logical and critical thinking path which is a trait you look for in a finance manager/engineer...If you need a creative financial engineer who can think through processes and come up with smart initiatives to restructure an entity or brainstorm innovative ideas to generate revenue, you do not go to a tax man...this is the problem Ghana have. And no one have the intelligence to point this out to the president. You can not tax a country of about 25 million people of which more than half of are unemployed and hence do not pay any form of taxes to salvation period... corporate tax is production driven, so if your taxes discourages investment, then you will not have the earning to tax.. it is that simple...you do not need stochastic calculus or linear equations to figure this out...that thinking, let's raise taxes to solve our revenue problems for a country like Ghana is fraud at birth...common sense will tell the president that. But he is too stupid to know this...

This was nothing but two economists trying to sell their belief in one of the two acceptable economic theories around. Dr. Nii Moi Thompson subscribes to the theory that lowering taxes on business will restart economic activities as most who favor business over rest of society always do. Mr. Terkper, on the other hand, is from the school where he feels business must share in the pain and not get preferential treatment at the expense of the society at large ; thus increasing tax premium on business to shore up any tax revenue shortfalls are necessary.

This fight is as old as the dust bowl era in the USA. With all other economic activities kept at current level, include letting the public bear brunt of all economic hardship, the lowering of business tax on business will surely spur economic growth. The problem is that the rest of society and their paychecks or disposable incomes stay the same and will not have the needed disposable income to patronize businesses which in turn spurs economic growth. And so for as long as business get to sell products and services at the current price level they can benefit with paying lower taxes even as some hide their profits in foreign banks and financial institutions. The business world thus tend to fights to retain those lower tax burdens even when the economy rebounds.
Seth Terkper is right to argue that for as long as everyone in society to share in the hardship, it is only more intuitive, economically, for workers to have disposable income to continue buying and patronizing business to spur on growth. This always become affront to those who carry water for business. After all, it is business community who can afford to pay for lobbyists to convince parliament and the president to enact laws and or executive orders in their favor; the average wage worker cannot convince a rotten parliament or president to lower the gas burden on them.

If the story is true, it is an admission that the ECONOMIC AND FINANCE TEAMS are at loggerheads and are unable to work together for the benefit of the country.

It is a case then of how can the President get a united team and one voice to advice him about taking the economy forward? The answer points to one or the other making way depending on who the President thinks is more creditable.

The Finance Minister gives the impression he is more interested in raising revenue than taking rounded policy decisions that also include increasing the national cake, that is, the productive base of the economy. It is this narrow understanding of his brief that puts a lot of people off him.

The President will have to make up his mind about how long he can continue to use him.

With so much controversy surrounding the Minister and the economy not looking good, the minimum the President can do is to try someone else in the post. It is in the national interest that this is done as soon as possible.

A gentle way of doing this is to move the Minister into another senior post.

If I were the President I would create a Presidential post of CHIEF ADVISOR ON GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTING VISOR ON GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTING for him.

Remember how Nkrumah created post of Minster of Parks and Gardens for Nee Ocansey.

Wherever NDC is found, there is either corruption, stealing, destruction and or killing of innocent humans. NDC came first to kill Ghanaians. For instance, they killed high court judges for no reason; including Justice Koranteng Addow a nursing mother, and two other high court judges among thousands of innocent civilians, burnt them to ashes. NDC came to destroy all the good policies instituted by NPP including GETFUND, School Feeding Program, Free Maternal Care, National Insurance Scheme, District Assembly Common Fund and the Metro Mass Transportation system. They have managed to destroy all of these programs. How callous could they be? And finally they have stolen all assets belonging to Ghana, selling all to themselves. They have stolen Ghana's bulky money in the treasury and last but not the least, they have created Gyeeda, Woyome, Sada, Subah, Merchant Bank, all in the name of judgement debt but rather criminally sharing the monies among themselves. How dare you? I mean how callous are you to behave like this? NDC is typical in stealing, killing and destroying just as Satan the devil.

yes time to go. MOF is not respected what he is trying to do is correct but going about all the wrong way. He has all the difficulty of single spine, judgement debts, loans for "nothing". Ghana needs to wake up and bite the bullet and have some hard times for the next year and the country will come out great but I see greed corruption and thicko's that will not allow that. Ghana will end up a High debt country and will have to wait for a bail out while all around its water everyone is making good money.

The public sector wage bill currently constitutes about 70% of the internally generated revenues for the Government. This definitely is unsustainable as it takes funds away from capital investments and trade that could be undertaken to grow our economy. As a result, many economists have advised the Mahama Government to cut this wage bill by consolidating some ministries and laying off a lot of civil servants. Perhaps due to the current unemployment situation in the country, President Mahama has been reluctant to pursue this avenue; and he may have a point. However, I see the cutting of the wage bill as a unique opportunity for the Government to grow our private sector. We need to transform the affected civil servants into individual entrepreneurs and MSME owners. The private businesses they will end up creating and running will help expand the tax base and grow the Government revenues to be used for investments in other sectors including health, water, social etc. This way the Government will become leaner and more efficient while we also develop our private sector, our tax revenues and our economy as a whole.

SOLUTION: 1) First Government needs to setup a Fund or use a fund already established for this exercise.
2) Announce the layoffs BUT sensitize the affected persons with options available:
a) Take a severance package OR
b) Engaged in the proposed Micro, Small and Medium size enterprises Plus
c) any other options Government will think about

Since most of these civil servants do not have business management skills, a major component of the Fund's activity will have to be capacity building so as to guide these new business people from start-up, to implementation and growth of the their businesses for about a minimum of 2 years.
3) This retrenchment exercise should be carried out over 3 to 5 year period

This definitely is unsustainable as it takes funds away from capital investments and trade that could be undertaken to grow our economy. If you continue to fear Jerry Rawlings, and refuse to sack the Finance Minister because of Jerry Rawlings and his Ewe caucus, Ghana would be compelled to go HIPC before your tenure of office in 2016, just as it was done immediately after Rawlings tenure of office. This country is not for Ewes.
Please, sack the Finance Minister before it is too late. Why can't your adviser on the economy be made to replace the Finance Minister if he has the magic wand to transform the Ghanaian economy.
This Terkpernomics is killing Ghana, and workers are suffering. I've done a lot of research in economics, and I find it difficult to see any Terkpernomics in any of the economics text books. May be his remedies are yet to be published.
