You cannot compel anybody to follow you.It is one's leadership qualities which will either repel or compel others to follow you.
A good leader will have followers jumping on the band wagon on their own accord.Sometimes not knowing the reason they are on the band wagon.
A good leader is brilliant,diligent,honest,listens to opinions of his followers,selfless,courageous,fair,reasonable,trustworthy,wise,flexible,has integrity,empathetic,sympathetic,good morals,considerate,dependable,incorruptible,foresighted,knowledgeable and a learner.
You do not need to know everything in order to be a good leader.Because you can make effective use of the management principle of delegation of authority to tap into areas you are not conversant/familiar with.Therefore,you do not need to hold a Ph.D. to be a good leader.Albeit,a Ph.D. in one's field will be a plus.

There are so many species of California Oak trees, Dr. Aryee. Besides, many of the people you were addressing will not get a chance to see California Oak trees to understand what you are talking about, thereby making your speech difficult to relate to.

Some of the Califoriia Oak trees grow vertically, while other species grow horizontally. We've got to be careful when we are making comparison with organisms that hail from different geographical locations - California oaks grow only in the temperate zone, therefore, a comparative example your audience would have understood should have come from the tropical zone.

Wouldn't it have been better to give a couple of examples of historical figures who exemplify the characteristics of exceptional leaders?
