Imagine the power-sharing government is accepted should that pave the way for additional 125 new constituencies? I mean, do we understand what "cost" means and its adverse on the nation? Anytime something new comes to the fore, the best we do is to increase cost that comes with it.

Right now, the nation is reeling or bleeding profusely under excessive cost and instead of these "academics" finding ways to "cut cost", they are rather proposing for more measures that will put heavy burden on Ghana.

The problem with Ghana is the systematic mass corruption from civil society groups to Government and religious groups.
The IEA plan is to legalise the rule of the rich. Fighting corruption, reducing government ministers to 20, election of DCEs, etc is wanted is needed and not putting NDC and NPP into permanent government.
What a shame, we demonstrated against Colonel Acheampong for much or less similar idea in 1978. Transparent governance system that makes sure funding for schools goes to produce quality teachers and infrastrasture, that roads and railways are constructed and all politicians and leaders of religious groups etc declare their assets publicly is what us needed. No to this madness from IEA. Yes to genuine decentralisation like the Canadian system.

So, in effect, IEA is saying if the NDC wins an election they must then share the governance of the country with the NPP, CPP, etc. For God's sake, how do some of these learned people think and reason.

Power sharing is a system used to resolve political conflict - its a conflict management strategy, and even in cases where it has been employed it has never worked - reference to Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, etc.

Ghana is not in any political conflict. The problem in Ghana is that the president is given too much executive powers. In order words, the Executive is given too much powers. The constitution gives the president the prerogative rights to apppoint ministers, CEOs, Board members,MCEs, DCEs, etc, with no guidelines whatsoever, and that is why you find incompetent party stalwarts managing sensitive institutions in this country. The legislature, specifically Parliament, is currently ineffective, and thats is the bane of our underdevelopment. More powers should be assigned to the Legislature than the Executive.Some of the appointments, like Board members, MCEs, DCEs,CEOs of State Institutions should be made by Parliament and not the president.

The most important thing to do is to elect all Regional Ministers, MCE's and DCE's during election time. This will let them be accountable to the people and not the President. Their term of office could be set for 2-years where they could go for re-election if the electorate appreciate their performance.

With the appointment of other Ministers, the President in his own wisdom and with the country at heart can extend his hands to visionary individuals from all walks of life irrespective of their political affiliation to come on board. This will bring diverse opinions on the discussion table for the right decision to be made for the country. E&OE.

I am not sure the winner-takes-all system should be our focus at this, and any time. What we have is system to clothe the incumbent with sufficient authority and power to execute his/her mandate. The problem is when we do not get the right person (i.e. the right vision and strategy regarding the nation's circumstances). So what we should be focusing on is the framework for selecting the "right" person. While our elections are nationwide, the process by which parties select candidates for us to elect presidents from are not. That is one. Election of local government chief executives and delineating certain tasks and roles to them from the national level is another. Devolution is a better antidote to the winner-takes-all syndrome.

The Chiefs, churches, workers and the women coalition is needed to revise the 4th Republic 1992 Constitution.

The whole Constitution must be reviewed from A to Z except the Indemnity Clause to ensure stability of the state and the government.
The Indemnity Clause is the price we had to pay to enable JJ Rawlings 's Junta to give up the gun and to return us to constitutional rule of law and democracy.

But the Constitution, after ten years journey, is still suffering from undemocratic elements and abuse of trust and the rule of law due to the constraints imposed by the JJ Rawlings Junta.

Our current economic decline is partly due to the unhygienic elements in the Constitution.

The Chiefs, who were the traditional governors of the people, before we were liberated from the yokes of colonialism by the Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, should take the initiative in collaboration with the churches, the workers and the women to form a coalition to revise the Constitution now that the influence of the JJ Rawlings junta over the constitution has diminished in favour of the people, in whom sovereignty resides.

Our system of government is Executive Presidential system as pertains in the US and some other countries. IF we want the Westminster type of government, then let's say so. Even then, there's no guarantee of inclusion unless a party failed to win outright majority in parliament. What nonsense. Having realised that there's no way Ghanaians would ever vote back their darling NPP to power, they've started this nonsense to disturb our ears. Party Politics has always been winner takes all or in extreme cases a coalition of unlikely bed mates.

First off,I find it odd that the 'ghost' of Fmr. President Rawlings could lead to the stacking of this country`s apex court with appointees sympathetic to a particular party,or make it easy for 'sore losers' to hold this nation captive for 8 months, via a 'bogus' election petition made possible by that same document!
And did the selection of so-called "experienced" hands guard against the depletion of our national assest some years back?
Judging by the current mood in this country, I suspect 'lone-ranger' Sumani Bagbin,was probably booed off the podium because of the recommendations he offered.
