The cholera that is claiming the lives of innocent Ghanaians is the direct result of misplaced priorities, corruption, and incompetence as reflected in the inability of the government to pay refuse collectors, and of course poor access to clean water. Had Nkrumah constructed all major roads in Ghana and built wells everywhere in Ghana with the $66m those days instead, the economy would have grown rapidly to provide enough money to build 10 affordable dams all around the country. Besides, had Ghana's independence pursue waited 5 yrs more for the elite Ghanaians to rule side by side with the whites before becoming independent, Ghana could have built a democratic nation right from the start and avoided illiterates like Krobo Edusei in government or a dictator like Nkrumah who had to chase away or kill the few elites during his time who did not agree with his policies. You cannot justify sanitary pads purchase as priorities against young expecting mothers who had to die or go through deplorable conditions due to lack of water, toilet facilities and beds at our hospitals.

Providing sanitary pads to young women is indeed laudable. But with a loan? And let us just say, we grant this, for the sake of the interest of the beneficiaries,the question is this: how sustainable is the provision of these sanitary pads and how is it to be done? Is this going to be continuous or just a one time thing? If continuous, how is this to be done when the money runs out? Or is the initial loan going to be used to plant cotton and to build a sanitary pad making factory to supply them? Or is the government just going to buy them for distribution? If it is the latter, are we going to take other loans when the money runs out? This to my mind is the worrying part and not the provision of the sanitary pads per se. The details on this issue has been very scanty and this is where we want the government to explain and furnish us with answers to the end that they have really thought the matter through.

You need to get your priorities right.Of what use are sanitary pads to the kids when they school under trees at the mercy of vagaries of the weather and vulture droppings?
Given the option,i strongly believe that the girls will choose modern classroom blocks with brilliant and highly motivated teachers,books,stocks of chalk,computers and a sumptuous school lunch, and not cheap corruption-prone ephemeral distribution of sanitary pads.
