  Greate Accra keeps growing.James Town Methodist Church was a Ga based Church. We the Fantes,Ashantis and othe Akan speking members couldn't speak Ga in those days and this is why Calvary methodist Church was created. They honestly called it Fante methodist Church.
  Even Tema is now a boig area and Methodism has gained its roots there.Sadly, most Akans cannot speak Ga language and in fact Ga people do not like speaking the Akan language.
  Whichever way we look at it, the Fantes started the Methodist Church in Ghana and if anything Cape Coast must be our only Cathedral or Vatican, if you like. So let us stop all the nonsense about Cathedrals here and there.

  Osofo Emmanuel Asante is very right. These splits are done on regular basis to promote the gospel and for effective management. The population of Accra is growing fast and the earlier these splits are done, the better so that the Methodist church can grow with it. I am a Presbyterian and have seen the positive effects of these strategic moves. Those against this laudable idea should simply pray for direction. Match on Methodist!

  Our Presiding Bishop is found of side-stepping issues. During the election dispute, he went on about 'peace, peace, peace', always afraid to mention the word 'justice' even once when he knows all too well that there can be no peace without justice! Now, some people in the church are expressing fears that the attempt to create new dioceses will expose the church to tribalism and segregation, but his pitiable answer is: ".... irrelevant and bogus without any basis." One would want to ask the question: "What is irrelevant, the Bishops or the people who make up the Church?"
  Thank goodness his leadership is coming to an end soon! But before he leaves office, he still has time to learn to solve problems rather than dodge them.

  1. There are no akan and game methodist anywhere in the diocese.
  2. There's 2 diocese in greater Accra ( Accra and tema) not 3 as reported.
  3. The issues about splitting Accra diocese has been around about 12yrs ago and has been debated and discussed at societies (individual methodist churches) over the period. It has never been an issues for the presiding bishop against Accra bishop. It predates their coming into office.
  4. The issue is in its final stages after the coming conference this year.
  . Even an ordinary methodist like me knows that the proposed split has grassroots support.
  The matter in contention is which circuit host the new diocese. Never been issue about skins and gas 'cos you'll both in very methodist church in Accra.
  7. A cathedral is given to the head of the diocese. Is clearly guided in the churches constitution
  8. The title of the presiding bishop is most rev'd. EVery other bishop is title right reve'd. There's no arch bishop in the methodist church.
  9. The majority of methodist have already sanctioned the split after discussion over ten years since.
  9. Journalist must get facts righgt and not publishignorance its dear readers.

  NONESENSE IF THAT IS THE CASE ALL ASHANTIS SHOULD BE DEPORTED TO KUMASI AND AKIM THEN CREATE A BORDER.THOSE REVERENDS ARE FOOLS,THEY ARE NOT MEN OF GOD.THEY WILL TO EXPOSE THEMSELFS AND THAT HOW GOD WORKS.

  Secondly, a reporter who cannot even spell the names or titles of the persons he is reporting about doesn't deserve to call themselves a journalist. If something so little is wrong i wonder what in this frictional tale is actually true. Hmmmmmm. Let us Pray that our economy recovers and that the threat of the deadly Ebola passes over us, rather than spend our time dishing out baseless accusations.

  Usual hackman gutter journalism without any merit.For a start the church doesn't have "Archbishops" and no leader of the Methodist Church can unilaterally commit changes without the express authorisation of the Conference or it's constitution. The church as part of its evolvement consistently look at ways of streamlining it's ministry. There is a proposal for Accra East and West which is being considered by the hierarchy of the church and it spells out the issues which is then debated at length. The position of Presiding Bishop, currently occupied by Rev Asante, is up for election as he concludes his full term in 2015. A new leader is due to be elected at the general purpose council(GPC) this month. This story suggests the unfortunate, but usual jostling for power has ferociously began.
