So you think Chinese loans are better? China gives Ghana 3 billion dollars lone and collects 6.5 billion in fifteen years at a cost of 13,000 barrels of oil a day at $85 dollars per barrel?

How can this government even sell or price a barrel of oil to China at $85 a barrel when at the time we signed that contract, a barrel of oil was selling at $115 per barrel? If you think Chinese are your friends, then you have a lot to learn.

This government is selling us to China as slaves because of the loans it has taken from China, the Chinese are turning Ghana and most of Africa into a laboratory test labs for their killer medicines. Ghana government cannot do anything about the Chinese galamsey operators because it comes with their loans.

The Chinese traders are dumping their inferior goods into Ghana including their electrical goods that has increased fire burnings in our country and you think these Chinese care about you?

China has 1.6 billion people and all they need is to send two million of those people into Ghana and with their technology, Ghana will become a China colony if we continue to have this foolish idea that Chinese are our friends.

Ghana has been plunged into an economic mess not because we lack resources to be a developed nation but our Politicians since Nkrumah's administration have failed the citizens and it is time the so called developmental partners who support our foolishness by making our Politicians lazy and corrupt should cut these aids off so that we will learn to live within our means. The title of this article sounds like I am unpatriotic but our dependency syndrome has made us mental slaves and a country on welfare 57 years after independence and that is disgraceful especially when such aid are banked in the offshore accounts of our corrupt Politicians.

My fellow countrymen and women, Ghana is on the precipice of Economic meltdown and our leaders are in an arsy- varsy way of correcting the problems. Even a jss student in Ghana is aware all our problems stem from the imbalance of our revenue and expenditure account so why do we keep tackling one side of the balance sheet, the revenue side without doing anything about the expenditure side?

Let's look at one how outrageous our politicians are dissipating our scant resources on themselves. A cabinet Minister in the present administration if you add all the benefits he receives earns more than GHc34,683 a month excluding some other benefits break down as follows

• Basic Salary – GH¢10,000 10,000
• Duty Allowance – 50% of basic salary 5,000
• Special Allowance – 30% of basic salary 3,000
• Entertainment Allowance – 35% of basic salary 3,500
• Wardrobe Allowance – 10% of basic salary 1,000
.Ex-gratia fixed at GH¢400,000 (for 48 mos) 1 400,000 8,333
• 45 Gallons of fuel a week 45 18 3,510
>>Subtotal >> >> 34,683

This does not include furnished accommodation, two cars, one 4x4 and a saloon car ,• One Chauffeur (est. Ghc800) 1 800 800
• One Cook (est. ghc600) 1 600 600
• One Garden Boy (est.Ghc500) 1 500 500
• One Steward (est. Ghc 350) 1 350 350
• One Security Guard(est. Ghc 350) 1 350 350

If a Minister of state is earning more than $10,000 in salaries and benefits a month, how much more is the President earning and our President has the audacity of telling Ghanaian Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, Farmers, civil servants and others that he has personally sacrificed by reducing his salary by ten percent(10%) when he is earning close to $15,000 a month in salaries and benefits with his own Airplane he has been using as a 'Trotro' when even some Western countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland leaders don't have their own Airplanes and travel on Commercial Airlines? The British Prime Minister travelled to Miami about two years ago on commercial Airline with his family for vacation but our President travelled to Dubai for his Christmas vacation on his own plane for more than two weeks with the plane parked at a hangar incurring parking charges taxpayers have to pay from their meager salaries through taxation and this man is talking about sacrifices. What sacrifices is he talking about?

Our partners ditched us in trying times – Mahama
President John Mahama says Ghana’s development partners have left the cocoa-producing West African country in the lurch, at a time when their assistance is desperately needed.“It is in challenging times that one needs their friends. Unfortunately, our development partners have not been as responsive to our homegrown fiscal stabilisation policy as I would have hoped,” he stated.

What a disgraceful and tumultuary way for a President of a sovereign country to beg for arms when these Politicians are living like Sheiks with their own fiefdoms Ministries and Constituencies.

Almost sixty years after independence, we are still talking about our developmental partners. What is the meaning of developmental partners? Folks, Mahama is talking about countries that give us free money and technical assistance in the form of grants but this "YENTIE OBIAA" President with tarantism itch to Daddy Lumba's "Yentie obiaa" song don't want our developmental partners advice. To Mahama, it is " SHOW ME THE MONEEEY!!!, BUT DON'T GIVE ME ANY ADVICE.

Friends Ghanaian countrymen, Ghana cannot and I repeat cannot solve our problems without cutting frivolous benefits to our Politicians and other top civil servants. Out of the over 700,000 public employees, more than 10,000 of these people receive free housing and car benefits and these are those who earn enough money to pay for all these freebies.

Our Politicians, both in power and opposition are not ready to cut down on these expenses because all of them including DCE's who also receive at least $35,000 every four years as ex-gratia are waiting for their turns to suck it to the poor Ghanaian taxpayers.4,500 housing units about 80% completed for low income people like Teachers, Nurses, Civil servants have been left to rot because those houses were started by the Kufuor government. Even Tony Aidoo, the Ndc loudmouth and Ghana Ambassador to Netherlands appealed to Mills administration to abandon all projects started by Kufuor government and instead fulfill Ndc manifesto. Is this how to administer a country?

The constitution of Ghana stipulates that political appointees and Parliamentarians should declare their assets not more than ninety days after assuming office, because of corruption, these people have refused to declare their assets.

Don't think it is only the Ministers who receive the outrageous benefits, the Members of Parliament, Deputy Ministers, Council of state members, all political appointees receive ex-gratia every four years.

These freebies mentality passed to us by Colonial administrators have passed their usefulness and should be stopped. Even Britain that enslaved us with this freebies don't practice it in Britain. They don't give Ministers free houses and cars as a benefit package and it is time we look at the expenses side of our budget and cut down on expenses to balance our balance sheet.

I appeal to our developmental partners not to give the government of Ghana a dime until we cut down on our expenses and corrupt practices. How can a country like Ghana lose $597 million from our Central bank without a trace and expect countries like USA, Britain, Germany and others to give us their citizens taxpayers money that does not even benefit the poor in Ghana society? Until we learn to live within our means, no country should give Ghana government a dime and all contributions to the poor citizens should be channeled through their NGO's in Ghana and UN agencies.

Ghanaians have had it with these corrupt politicians who only care about winning elections and not making a meaningful life for its citizens. NO MORE DEVELOPMENTAL PARTNERS DONATIONS, Ghanaians don't benefit from these donations. Maybe these countries can also do something when these Politicians start buying houses and other properties in their countries if they really want us to start walking after crawling for 57 years.

For one, the current crisis is the doing of Mahama's govt, no western country directed him/govt to pay the huge sums of fraudulent judgement debts, offer sweetheart deals to cronies under SUBAH, GYEEDA, Merchant Bank, Woyomes, CP, Africa Automobile, and countless others...nevertheless, were they to cut off aid completely, the country at large suffers, while these personalities go live somewhere else with their ill-gotten booty. What we for do? For one, the world bank has to do better than agree to provide a loan to buy pads and I don't mean iPads, however small the amount pencilled in. For a country like Ghana, coming on the back of the Brazil debacle, was like rubbing pepper into an open sore. Civil society must be on top of these issues instead of only reacting after the fact and even then, it seems only after prompting and "what's in it for meitis". I do not agree that since Nkrumah no other politician/leader has done Ghana right, sure there have been more bad, including the current one, than good, but if you were right, we would be worst off than a basket case by now...
If the govt officials' salaries and other benefits were commensurate with their performance, all things being equal, revenues and expenditures would not be too far apart, and the agitation and disgrace would not be at these current levels. Any leader worth their salt and with the country at heart, would sell off all these luxury official vehicles, (45 gallons of petrol saved in addition per each leeching official) give up the basic salary at least, until the economy isimproved! We need to retrieve all stolen govt monies, not only evaded custom duties, rationalize income taxes, charge reasonable property rates, and rope in artisans and mechanics into the tax net for starters. Ghana needs a deep thinking selfless leader/s not never-do-wells whose mod us operandi are to amass wealth at Ghana's expense. my general take....

The best way to strength cedi is by making dollars in abundant. How do we do this? Well, ask those of the economic special list. Ghana is failing in its economic predictions because the specialist (Senior Economic Adviser to the President, Dr Nii Moi Thompson) is using the economic theories written for white people base on their reaction towards marketing and their currencies. The behavior of a black person towards marketing is different, so those white man’s economic policies will not work for black people and especially in Africa. Our so call economist fails us (Ghana) and Africa. I May not be an economist but I am strongly analytical person. I have different theory to stabiles the cedi.
To stabilize the cedi, the first thing you do is to let people like the cedi and how do you do that? Let the so call economist figure it out. I have an idea how to do that. I am refusing to spell it out because the so with economic degree (studies of the white man’s economic theories) will shoot it down because it might not be in line with the theories of the white man’s economic theories written in the economic books.
My theory will be base on real facts by studying the behavior of the people (Black people, especially in Ghana) we market to them. What is that theory? I will be willing to have a discussion with some of the economist on any of the FM station.

Because of our impatience nature, we Ghanaians have always refused to sacrifice even for a few months when the going get tough. Perhaps due the socialistic tendencies in the country starting way back from Nkrumah's time, we have inclined to look at the Government to give us our jobs, health care, education, infrastructure etc.; virtually everything. Ghanaians as a result have from all this time, favored Government work as opposed to making attempts to venture into their own micro and small businesses. We have also abandoned farm work in the rural areas. We have expected our Government to shoulder all this burden even as our population has increased. This, my friends, is not sustainable for any country even the advanced ones. Our politicians know very well about these Ghanaian qualities. Therefore, in order for the Government in power to retain power, they spend so much time and money preparing our 5 year National development plan only for them to be put on the shelve. They try their best to run the economy by solving the short-term problems. The end result is that the fundamentals of the economy ends up on sinking ground. This explains the bursts and booms we have been witnessing over the years.

SOLUTION:

As Ghanaians we should understand that we can develop our economy only through the development of the private sector - those micro, small and medium size businesses. We need to create millions of these businesses. The private sector is not the Government. It is YOU and ME. The individual Ghanaians.
We should not expect the Government to provide all the businesses, infrastructure and other social amenities.

The role of Government is to provide conducive environment for the private sector or businesses to thrive better.

I implore our men and women especially those living in the cities to change our attitudes and try their hands on our own small businesses. We should also trust one another and form partnerships to create medium size businesses. If most of us are making, creating and innovating things, we would be transforming our economy into an industrial/ manufacturing and service economy whiles Government focuses on proving the necessary environment for these businesses to become successful. Let's change our attitudes and start now to come up with new business ideas which we will take to the bank and seek financing to bring them to fruition. The Government alone cannot handle the huge unemployment problem. Check where you are living now. Find out what you can make create or innovate in the country that can be sold to others and you have a business. The first step in the hardest but take some risks and start something and you will realize that help will come your way.

A lot of our youth do not want to go into farming. Therefore we need to introduce mechanize farming in order to increase productivity on the same acre of land for food security and exports. Our Agriculture Engineering colleges at Legon, KNUST, Cape Coast etc. must stop those theoretical programs and start to design and help manufacture these farm implements - ploughs, harvesters etc. and irrigation systems to make this possible. We can start with not so sophisticated machines but simple home grown ones as the Indians have done.

If we play our part, we will give our Government the breathing space to carry out the medium to long term development goals including strengthening of our Government institutions, infrastructure, social, regulations, rule of law etc. which normally take longer period to implement but will help us to build our economy on solid rock which will be rather more sustainable.
