Agri-Terrorism? Feds Shut Down Seed Library in Pennsylvania!
In yet another example of the federal government’s war on self-sufficiency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture shut down a seed library in Pennsylvania, claiming that a system whereby residents could borrow heirloom seeds and then replace them at harvest time was a violation of the 2004 Seed Act, while a commissioner warned that such behavior could lead to “agri-terrorism.”
Comment: “Gosh, this makes me wonder when they are going to crack down on all of those GMO fields, with their grave concerns about cross-pollination,” writes Daisy Luther. “Look out, Monsanto…oh, wait. This only applies to regular people growing vegetables. GMOs aren’t considered an invasive species.
VLA comment: I wonder if Senator Kerry and his wife (Theresa Heinz..Heinz Foundation) who run Pennsylvania in a lot of ways has a comment on this?

An entire continent went to America for $40bn when Ghana alone as a country, if she manages well her natural resources (cocoa, oil, gold, bauxite, etc.) could easily earn that amount of money for her own development. This continent is ethically, socially and of course economically bankrupt. The continent is virtually leaderless. Those in power are not real leaders; they are mere rulers with no vision. African rulers have no sense of pride, they have no shame, and they have no conscience, period. We should ask ourselves as passengers on a flight: "Is there a pilot on board"? Or are we been flown by remote control by unknown individuals to an unknown destination? Is there a government in Ghana? If there is one, how come that hundredth of Chinese nationals would come to this country and engage openly but illegally in gold mining? Is Ghana for sale? Is Africa for sale? Or is the continent already sold out? African leaders, be aware that generations to come will curse you forever, if you continue with your current behavior.
I still remember how in 1990's Friends of Animals (FOA), an USA based organization, wanted to establish a "retirement" homeland in Ghana (Volta Region) for lab chimpanzees from USA. Some NDC officials connived with FOA to allow this plan to go ahead. But we launched a vigorous campaign against the plan until President Rawlings as a responsible leader at the time stopped the project. FOA was mad and threatened some of us with law suit.
I honestly think one way of forcing the political leaders to listen to, and work toward the welfare of the people, is to vote for the parties and individual candidates whose plate forms clearly include the repealing of the EPA agreement and the banning of GMO crops and foods in Ghana and other African countries.

My biggest beef is the fact that our traditional farmers may go out of business because of the way these paymasters set them up. Ghana and by extension the whole of Africa should organize our own scientist to look into this GMO. If they agree that the benefits outweigh the negatives, then our own scientists can come out with the optimal seeds that would help our food security. Farmers should also be allowed to keep their old seeds for use in the next season without being punished. I listened to Dr. Abu Sankara's take on this subject a while back and he seems to know much about it. He said Ghanaian/African scientists can do the research, what they would be doing is using new technology to improve food and plant production.

This is not a task for the likes of Dr. Abu Sakara alone. The information is out there in public domain for anyone who really wants to know. Is it too difficult to ask ourselves why Europeans are fighting against GMO, and put in place legislation to force food companies to clearly label GMO foods, if they believe there are no risks in consuming them.

GMO machinery is a weapon of mass destruction not only for our hardworking farmers but GHana and then the whole of Africa. Why? Because Ghana seems to be leading Africa in almost everything, from independence to democracy and from local government's district assembly system to film production. The problem GMO is causing Latin American countries and far east nations is unimaginable. These Ghanaian front men should not mortgage our future by killing our land and children's future. Reject it now and let not this conference not survive. This guys are using subtle means to push GMO onto us. Not so.

Sometimes, one wonders if the education we receive removes our conscience as every step we take negates the idea of sovereignty and independence. Just look at Parliament, the judiciary and the executive - they are all salesmen selling Ghana for cheap, imprisoning to the for the delights of external forces. Knowing what we know, should there even be a debate or national discussion on a silly thing like GMO?

GMO is indeed poison intended for man to eat for GMO developers to make money at the expense of human lives. Even non edible GM plants such as cotton have started showing serious signs of poor yeilds anf farmer who accepted to plant them are now spending more monies on chemicals about eight times what they would have used without GM seeds. Compare the coattle we know in Ghana to those of the GM cattle see on TV, and you will realised that the GM cattle have serious mucus dripping from their nostrils and they have no clue how to claen those mucus, you never see that with our own cattle. Lastly, even in the USA, field research for GMO is not done in the mainland but in the USA territories in the pacific ocean that is about over 10,000 kilometers from the USA's west coast because the negative consequences cannot accepted in mainland USA. Even in that place the results have been cancers of the blood. They cover these up and do not want us to know about it. DW TV recently aired a documentary about GM foods, any one with the know how to get this documentary from DW TV can do so. I tell you the truth that the result of GMO is not good, not good and not good. Remeber cancer of the bllod means more business for GMO developers because they will develop vaccines for sale to try and treat you but you will eventually die.

Monsanto failed with M810 GMO corn in South Africa, insects became resistant to the corn and it failed badly. There is not enough research evidence to support GMO seeds and who will have control of it. We are just becoming slaves to giant company's like Monsanto who will use and abuse 3rd world countries to get what they want. I say a big NO to GMO supporters, let them get back and pollute the west with their poison. Silence GMO support now. Don't listen to their lies.

The debate is no longer about safety of GMO-derived foods which are widely consumed; it is now about those determined to stop what they see as a corporate agenda in food production. GMO's are part of the solution to food production and should be considered and used as such. Jason Tutu appears to suggest that there is no truth to the session to be held at U of Cape Coast because the opponents of GMO's are not invited. Are we to believe that opponents of GMO's are sacrosanct and hold the absolute truth about GMO's. There are a myriad of problems facing the agriculture sector in Ghana and I really don't see the introduction of GM-derived crops as one of the problems.

Who the heck are you to make such a sweeping statement,"The debate is no longer about safety of GMO-derived foods which are widely consumed"? First of all, any topic is open to repeated debate inasmuch as discoveries, experiments and longevity of product, seed, and/or drug play crucial roles in determining its viability. If/when product change takes place, there must be room made for further discussion/debate, Secondly, The argument suggests that because GMO derived foods are widely consumed, they are safe for consumption. This is based on a false premise simply because there are toxic foods/drugs distributed world wide - especially to "Third World" countries - by recognised Western companies every day.
Finally, "Jason Tutu appears to suggest that there is no truth to the session to be held at U of Cape Coast because the opponents of GMO's are not invited." Kofi, where is your sense of fairness/balance? Every debate requires proponents and opponents!Leave the opponents uninvited, and your credibility is shot - kpataaaaa!
