He should not have worried about a passport knowing the US Immigration will be in charge of getting him to Ghana one way or the other by obtaining travelling documents for him from the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC.
If he really did what he is being accused of doing now, then he deserves to spend more prison time to get the criminal behavior out of his system.

What's so difficult about making a telephone call to the appropriate Ministry, Min. of Foreign Affairs, and be supplied with the info you didn't know before going public, if you have to divulge that info at all when the case is in court?
Anyway, around that period in qs, the NDC was in a state of confusion and inertia, clueless that they had won the elections by a whisker; with a President who could not think fast, and so didn't "take decisions in haste", a debilitating virtue his Vice and current President is also said by Alex Segbefia to be afflicted with! Commanders-In-chief who can't think fast and take sensible decisions on the spur of the moment; even in response to emergencies. Juts notice how the recent petrol shortage crisis unfolded. So then, Mills was taking forever to fill the vacant posts and JJ began chafing at him and finally went public! As for military men, they fill those posts withing hours of a successful coup. As you continue to "succeed" at those small things and your parents ignore your behaviour, you graduate into adulthood with a twisted brain that just pushes you to do bigger and bigger criminal stuff.
In primary school, it may take the form of copying your friends exam papers; buying BECE/WAEC/HALL exam papers or paying someone to write the Common Entrance Exam for you. Once you get pass such behaviour without being caught, you graduate later into something else.

Isn't it possible that the mistake was done at the passport office?. Also setting bailing condition of 200,000 Ghana stupid money is insane to say the least. In the case of Amoateng, we should not forget that when NDC won the 2008 elections, Prof. Mills did not replace NPP appointees who served under Kufuor's government immediately, which became contentious between some NDC members and government. Therefore, i agreed with the Minister for Security Agencies to broaden their scope of investigation and get to the bottom of how Amoateng managed to acquire a passport from behind bars.
Finally, Amoateng might have hatched this plan to sneak into Ghana on female passport as a disguise since security at KIA is porous with so many loopholes. But, for the vigilance of America's FBI who had long placed surveillance on Amoateng's activities he would have come to Ghana unnoticed. This is the work of collaboration between America and it's Ghanaian counterparts. Those involved should brace themselves.

The Americans did not detect that he used fake Ghana passport,and landed safely in Ghana, only to be confronted by his political opponents that he used fake passport. If the passport is fake, seize it, and issue a genuine passport for him, instead of making political capital out of his predicament. A whole Communication minister coming on air to tell Ghanaians that, Amoateng had a fake passport is no news.
However, what the minister should tell Ghanaians, or what Ghanians expect the minister to tell them is that, the syndicate making fake Ghanian passport has been busted. This will be good news for Ghanaians.
