Wonderful idea if it ever takes off. Its always the case of numerous project announcements yet little is seen in initiation let alone completion.
What prompted my comment is the complete absence of cost. Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) was silent about the overall cost of this harbour expansion. No information about the nature of the agreement signed between GPHA and Viking Offshore and Halliburton. On the part of the government of Ghana, how much of the Chinese loan is being used to support this Takoradi port expansion?
In the name of transparency and much touted accountability please do the right thing and publish the figures to dispel any insinuations.
I find it quite strange that no information of cost or funding was provided for this harbour expansion project.

You would do well to go to Takoradi and see for yourself that work is indeed progressing on Takoradi harbour, and the Sekondi to Takoradi rail line.
After all, Seeing is believing.

Yes, my brother, this whole project is a very good one, except that the cost involved is not known at all and that makes me wonder, whether the Project will ever be realised. You see, they say they are going to use part of the Chinese Loan for the Project. However, nobody knows how much of the Loan will go into it. And then recently the Government announced that since the Chinese are demanding more oil for the 3 billion dollar loan the Government will now go in for only half of the original amount and that is 1.5 billion dollars. Well, so far the Chinese have paid around 800 million dollars, which has already been invested in the Atuabo Gas Project, therefore the rest of the 1.5 billion will be 700 million. Will this be enough to to cover all the cost of this huge Project? Mr. Afrifa, I'm as doubtful as you are, but for now we can only wait and see.

If the Chinese loan deal is halved, Gov't will seek alternative funding elsewhere.
This might delay work on the projects,
but the projects are vital to our economic development, so they will be pursued.

There is already a fishing harbour in Sekondi. Better to expand this than to build a new one in Takoradi.

The container depot in Sekondi is a brilliant idea. It will create jobs and revitalise Sekondi. I do hope a shuttle service will be run between Sekondi and Takoradi to improve transport in the Twin city.
