It will be wrong to decorate your wife with any national honors just because she is your wife. What I don't understand about African leaders is that they behave as if they rendered a benevolent service to their country rather than a civil servant who has been hired, paid handsomely to do a job. If he is able to do the job satisfactorily, we will be happy with him but we don't owe him anything.

Does Kufuor know the number of Ghanaians who have celebrated their golden jubilee in marriage; I mean golden wedding anniversary? Kufuor go to Akropong or Cape Coast,Tadi, Winneba, Osu, such feat are like pennies on the street.

Kufuor got over $10 billion in debt forgiveness.
Add our earnings from our exports. Nkrumah had no dent forgiveness.
He had to claw out our development through better management that Kufuor did.
Nkrumah had no interest in stealing for himself.
Kufuor deserves no credit.
He was a thief, and set a bad example for Mahama, who today is trying hard to out-thieve him.

Mobutu stole $8 billion in 30 years.
Rawlings. 50 million in 20 years.
Kufuor, 6 billion in 8 years.
Mills, 200,000 in 3 years.
Mahama, 1 billion in 2 years.

Let get this right. What was the level of Ghana's civilization when Nkrumah came to power. Can somebody tell me if Ghana was in the position to organise a free and non-violence election at that time. What happened after the overthrow of Nkumah? Had it not been Rawlings dictatorship where would the current Ghana be? Nkrumah had to be a dictator to enble him achieve all that he did. A different person would have shipped all the money to foreign banks and sell the country back to the whites. This is what Americans always get it wrong. Democracy can not be forced on people. the minds of the very people have to be prepared to accept it. after numerous coup attempt failed to oust Rawlings, Ghanains realised that only pressue through strikes and negotiations can force the Rawlings government to understand their plight. These activities prepared the Ghanaian mind for the acceptance democracy. Nkrumah started but was hastely overthrown. God knew the Ganaian mind was not prepared for democracy and that is why he sent JJ. to come and continue from where Nkrumah left. mentally matured people in places like Pakistan, Syria, Iraq and Libya are crying now for a powerful dictator that can silence all these sectorian militias and bring peace to their various countries.

However, just on Nkrumah for the uneducated, The British after their "loot and share" colonialist escapade, still left enough in the Gold Coast/Ghana financial chest, to allow Kwame Nkrumah "show boy" to willfully use as if it was his personal wealth to carry out some useful developmental projects--Akosombo, educational trusts schools, Tema motorway,Valco and state owned factories. However in addition, opponents were willfully thrown in detention (preventive detention act), persons disappeared into thin air, human rights/press freedom was non-existent. More importantly Nkrumah spent Ghana's money at will, to sponsor "guerrillas" to other African countries (my uncle was one), Nkrumah "dashed" money to other African countries, his ministers were looting a la carte--buying gold beds etc, Swiss accounts were abundant etc, whilst poor Ghanaians, were being asked to "tighten their belts". Oh well, it seems we Ghanaians have very short memories, or a national "dementia". ha Ha.

Meanwhile, Kufuor also had a monumental break with the HIPC. Almost all our debts were forgiven. His Administration had a clean sheet to resume rebuilding the Nation on. Do you know how much money was made available to us for development from the HIPC that would have gone into paying our debts? Research to make that assessment. Then compare with whatever amount was available to Nkrumah at the start of his Government. Then for a comparable time frame, determine what projects Kufuor accomplished and what Nkrumah accomplished within similar time frame.

Next, consider the political climate under which the two undertook their developments. Off the bat, one can see that Nkrumah had to deal with violent Opposition from within that distracted him quite a bit. Then also, he had himself entangled in the Cold War for various reasons, even as he joined the non-aligned Nations. That also cost him the loss of Western Financial backing, or forced him to swallow delibrately hiked interest rates on Financial assistance from the West.

Kufuor, on the other hand, enjoyed a peaceful political environment that offered all the necessary ingredients to attract massive Western Investments. He was not distracted by any internal or external Political concerns. The worst internal political disturbance in Kufuor's era was the Dagbon conflict which was largely ignored by Kufuor's Administration. Thanks to the legal "Luminaries" of the kind of Akufo-Addo on his advisory team. Then, end your analysis with self-adulation expenses that both might have acquired. Nkrumah never bought himself a medalion to boast of his accomplishments. Kufuor did. Those Medalions Kufuor bought could have had the opportunity cost of providing one more classroom to a Class under a Baobab or Ofram Tree, or provide more Medicine at the Komfo Anokye Hospital, say.

While all these factors are crucial in making fair comparisons, we must give credit where due. Kufuor could have done worse than he did. So, maybe we ought to be appreciative of that. But it is only when a thorough assessment of all relevant factors are used and weighted appropriately, considering inflationary effect, modern technology, etc., that any fair comparison could be done.

It is not enough just to fly off our partisan sentiments to make such an important comparison to help us figure out what we could do better from now on.

Ghanaians should not be blinded by these tax looters who only seek their interest by lobbying through their agents who are scattered throughout the country.
