Bature should end his smear campaign and let democracy prevail. Contesting the president is a good thing and challengers or contestants should not be seen as enemies. Let's learn from the US for instant.Clinton, Joe Biden and others contested with Obama but look at what happened. Obama picked Joe Biden as his Vice and Hilary as his Secretary of State.
In Ghana our journalists help portray any political competition as criminal or betrayal and end up destroying the character of quality individuals. Doing so will mean certain defeat for NDC and don't say we didn't tell you so. Despite the perceived "weakness and unproven corruption" President Mahama has broad appeal among Ghanaians and especially within the NDC. He is actually a unifying figure compared to those purported to be plotting to unseat him as presidential candidate. Should that happen whoever emerges as leader is likely to "throw away" huge numbers of supporters, increase factionalism within the party and will almost certainly go on and lose the 2016 elections. The wisest thing to do would be to unite the party and rally behind the president to achieve the party's election manifesto. Then people will see NDC as a serious and credible force to reckon with. Changing leadership at this stage will only serve the purpose of widening any existing cracks within the party's factions. Can our country really afford to hand over power to the opposition crooks at this crucial stage in our history? Playing such a dangerous game will have immeasurable repercussions for our country so please shelf your ambitions now and rally behind our embattled president. There will be plenty of opportunities in 2020.
