There are many fields where Ghana lacks the needed expertise. To solve this problem the government of Ghana has over the decades made scholarships available for the needed human resource to be trained abroad. In some cases so many people were sent and not even one returned. If you know you are not prepared to work and live in Ghana and would therefore not return do not take the scholarships.

The Takoradi Poly Students who were sacked for applying with fake certificates must be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction. Just sacking them is not enough.

Nowadays businesses and government organisations have stopped demanding Secondary School Certificate or Basic Education Certificate.

Each of these certificates are important. For example for many tertiary graduates the only certificate that can tell whether one can speak good English or whether one has adequate knowledge of Mathematics is the Secondary School Certificate.

Similarly the only certificate that can tell whether a tertiary graduate has basic knowledge of Ghanaian history, culture, agriculture and the basic geography of West Africa is the Basic Education Certificate.

These researches do create jobs for people some even end up with great inventions. All these guys with those PhDs are all with the idea that they have to stay in an air conditioned office. They need to create stuff with their hands and stop lazying around and showing off their degrees as placards.They gotta get off their butts and do something...they don't have to wait for the government to create the jobs for them they gotta create their only jobs. Mahama ain't gonna do shit for them anyway...trust me...hahaha

The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says "Yeah. I was a salesman back in Minnesota ."

Well, the boss liked the kid and gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did."

His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down. "How many customers bought something from you today?"

The kid says "One".

The boss says "Just One? Our sales people average 20 to 30 customers a day. How much was the sale for?"

Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition."

The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT and a TRUCK?"

The kid said "No, the guy came in here to buy Tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing.' "

So far easier said than done. The doing involves, the readiness of the Universities to focus on what industries require and stop misdirecting the energy of our graduates.

Well educated graduates would be able to create their own jobs. Given the right investment climate and confidence.

That investment climate and confidence is absent in Ghana. The independent Universities are to blame for not confronting Gov on creating investment confidence in Ghana

Across the globe, the fundamental philosophy guiding any functional tertiary education is SCHOLARS GO TO SCHOOL( or University) WHILES WORKERS GO TO COLLEGE( or Polytechnic). In the US, even though universities and colleges award degrees a person wanting to employ scholars knows where to go.Also in the UK and Nigeria, workers go for HND( which is seen as equivalent to toilet paper in Ghana) whiles those aspiring to be scholars go for university degrees. In Ghana, 95% of all programmes offered at the tertiary level are academic(general knowledge) in nature and so what do you expect? The work of the scholar is to publish and write books but unfortunately for us in Ghana we have many scholars(professors inclusive) who cannot even write books yet they find it convenient to take over the jobs of practitioners. For those who don't know the difference, BSc in engineering is for scholars in Engineering whiles BEng, BTech and/or HND in engineering are for the workers(practitioners) in engineering. Currently in the UK for instance there is the professional Masters degree(MSc) and academic masters(MPhil) but in Ghana they will tell you the MSc is inferior. The same applies to the BSc(Hons) and BSc. The former shows that the holder has some work experience. What about Pgd and PgC. UCC will tell you that the PgC is inferior to the PgD but that is not the case. PgD is for those without work experience and the PgC is for those with work experience. I have on several occations tried to correct this level of ignorance in our local universities but the harder I try the more they tell me" this is how it is done in Ghana- Rubbish. The fact is that universities should not expect to produce scholars and expect them to find jobs in industries. If they want their products to secure jobs they should run professional programmes. Another important issue is that we are producing more scholars(thinkers) than Workers(practitioner). This is wrong. Even in the US the number of colleges are more than universities. In a typical football team, the coach does the thinking whiles the players(practitioners and professional) play the game. Can you imagine the quantum of chaos that will crop up in a team(country) where the coaches are more than the players. That is the situation of Ghana today. Universities offering academic programmes are far more that Polytechnics and colleges combined. This is why our university graduates are unemployed and not necessarily because of any lack of collaboration between universities and industry.

Once again our classroom educated class cannot help but assume the copy and paste posture they are well endowed in when it comes to the transplant of foreign ideas irrespective of environment and community. Colleges and universities in the US, UK, Germany and all of the civilized nations with the structure of education we love in Ghana do believe in being the best, love competition, shun mediocrity and are very much aware of long term investment and patient on ROI. Why are some of the colleges and or universities in the civilized industrialized nation well endowed and get much of government and private industry research grants than others? There are reliable verifiable literature of work done at the schools, their benefits and contribution to society and industry. In Ghana, we have university level lectures who cannot conduct and or manage the most basic of research in their own field of so-called expertise and are very allergic to student ideas that fall outside their comfort zone even while they drape themselves in all things politics and tribe. So if this scholars is proposing now a new approach which is as old as Ghana's independence then where was the measure of contribution from Ghana's colleges and universities up to date? What are the lecturers fighting the government about if their so-called allowance had been of value or worth the efforts of government? In the final analysis, the failures in Ghana's education and the products of output is not a result of the education structure but because of the ignorance of a society that have been bamboozled into thinking all doctoral dissertations are equal and comes with wisdom or contribute to human growth and development.

In any event, the Gov must create investment climate and confidence for mainstream research to be applied for the benefit of society.

Right now the level of corruption in Ghana does not create investment climate, infrastructure and confidence for fixing the Ghana economy.

That is political ignorance of President John Mahama, the key leader we must follow as demanded by the Otumfuor Asantehene, and not academic shortcoming.
