  Are you saying that because Government has not got 100% share in Public Companies Government has no a say or influence in the decision making processes of those companies or what? Simple put are you saying that Ghanaians cann ...

  Are you saying that because Government has not got 100% share in Public Companies Government has no a say or influence in the decision making processes of those companies or what? Simple put are you saying that Ghanaians cannot and should not critize or hold Government responsible for the actions or inaction of such companies? If you answer is yes then you are wrong because public companies percieved to serve national interest that is why the government invest national money or funds to acquire strategic shares to ensure that Ghana national interest is served.

  Since government pump public money into public companies, such companies are of public interest therefore all decisions made by government on such companies must be subjected to critical public scrutiny just like Public entit ...

  Since government pump public money into public companies, such companies are of public interest therefore all decisions made by government on such companies must be subjected to critical public scrutiny just like Public entities which are 100% owned by the state. The writer`s education of the public on Public companies is therefore misleading.

  We do not want the government holding any shares/stocks WHATSOEVER and taking part in any shareholders meetings and influencing the appointment of chief executives whose tenure can be ended instantly with a radio announcement ...

  We do not want the government holding any shares/stocks WHATSOEVER and taking part in any shareholders meetings and influencing the appointment of chief executives whose tenure can be ended instantly with a radio announcement and who will dance to the tunes of the government at the expense of prudent decisions.That smells of
  socialism.Socialism does not work.
  Ghana was born a capitalist.So we want a SUBSTANTIALLY capitalist country which will guarantee our speedy economic prosperity,and an iota of safety nets(unavoidable socialism) for the vulnerable and needy,based on humanitarian grounds.The role of the government should be limited to the provision of transportation infrastructure(roads,bridges),security(law enforcement) and occasionally providing bailouts when the necessity arises.Electricity,education,water,sanitation,etc.can best be taken care of by the private sector.
  The government should limit its task to creating conducive environments for the private sector through legislation, fiscal(tax-free zones,tax holidays,low corporation tax rate) and monetary
  policies(controlling inflation to increase disposable incomes to stimulate consumption for job creation and stabilizing the Cedi).
  I will not vouch for an atom of influence by the government.
  The inefficiency of government in running any business entity is self-evident or conspicuous all over Ghana.From Dr. Nkrumah's GIHOC:the Aboso Glass Factory,the Asutware Sugar Factory,Nsawam Cannery and the Pwalugu Tomato Factory.Then there is the Ghana Airways bitter experience.
  Bureaucracy,corruption,inefficiency and a lack of prudent decisions are the characteristics/hallmarks of anything government.So long as the government is perceived as a SANTA CLAUS who is a GOOD SAMARITAN and whose properties can be stolen or handled without any sense of personal responsibility,any government production unit will not be viable.
  Is it not a conflict of interest for the government to set corporation tax rates and own interests in the same businesses?
  Democracy(for political stability to attract both local and foreign investments,and for social harmony),a free market economic system and complete privatization are what Ghana needs.
  Believe it or not,posterity will sell John Mahama's anticipated Ghana International Airline and the to-be-revamped Sugar Factory in Asutware in future.Just as Dr. Nkrumah's GIHOC has been dismembered in bits and pieces.
  When you think about SOCIALISM, think about Mikhail Gorbachev and the former USSR and its disintegration.

  It is very very dangerous to leave the provision of essential services like Electricity,education,water,sanitation, transportation etc to the private sector in our part of the world ie Ghana, the ECOWAS Sub Region and Africa ...

  It is very very dangerous to leave the provision of essential services like Electricity,education,water,sanitation, transportation etc to the private sector in our part of the world ie Ghana, the ECOWAS Sub Region and Africa where there are basically no anti monopoly laws. Can you imagine the effect it will have on Ghana`s economy if the Electricity Corporation were to deny its services to Ghananaians for just one week.I agree 100% with you that the government should not have a say in the day to day running of all public companies and entities but the government must have a strategic vito rights to prevent disastrous decisions made by the management of such companies and entities. Do you know that the German State of Lower Saxony has such a strategic shares in Volkswagen AG? Is Germany a socialist country because the German government has shares in its public companies like Deutsch Telekom, Bundes Bahn, Deutsche Post etc.
