Infact we are always encouraging others to follow Mabels example and indeed there are many out there who would like to do so, but .... unfortunately BOSSES are not encouraging such people; infact they are discouraging them.

Even before these persons get the chance to prove themselves, some of these bosses demand sex before employment.

In most cases that approach discourages a number of potentially good workers from even trying.

I am an avid follower of the daily news and I must immediately admit, before I proceed that, before this particular journalist awards event, I had never ever heard of this Mabel Banaseh, or for that matter, any 'outstanding' ...

I am an avid follower of the daily news and I must immediately admit, before I proceed that, before this particular journalist awards event, I had never ever heard of this Mabel Banaseh, or for that matter, any 'outstanding' media activities that she had previously undertaken to deserve the award as the best journalist of the year.

Of course my isolated or personal opinion does not necessarily mean that she does not deserve to be crowned as the Journalist of the year. Far from that. My amazement comes from the fact that there are many more other journalists - including the one who was originally adjudged as the winner of this years event, before Mabel was eventually declared the winner. Indeed there are equally or more competent journalists whose works are more visible and more appreciated than many of those who were awarded on the day.

On the other hand, the circumstances surrounding the fracas about Manaseh Azure having won the award before being painfully shoved aside for Mabel to be superimposed as the winner, casts terrible doubts about possible political manipulation or corrupt influences to the whole award event, the committee that worked on identifying and selecting the award winners as well as the entire association of journalists in Ghana.

In a country where we are all reeling from the effects of neck-deep corruption, I really cant understand how the journalists association and their goofy awards committee could have made such a mess of their annual ceremony and got it all so wrong.

As I speak, the integrity of the annual event has now been enshrouded in unfortunate skepticism. The ensuing tussle about who won first and who did not win the annual best journalist award has considerably reduced or rather damaged the glamor of the prestigious event into just another one of those events which are 'cooked' even before the judges are appointed.

Judging from all the brouhaha surrounding this years event, I even fear or wonder if corporate institutions would be easily forthcoming with sponsorship packages for the event next year. I am really at my wits end as to how this cock-up could have happened to mar this event which up until a couple of days ago, was one of the most respected awards ceremonies in the country..

Then again, what really are the expected merits required of a journalist to win or even to be considered and shortlisted as amongst the possible winners? To save the integrity of the event, the public must be informed or educated on what to expect from possible nominees and winners.

I think that notwithstanding whatever might have happened on the night, the lady should be allowed to keep her award as winner because as far as we the public know, she was not party to any possible scam to unduly declare her the winner. If she is good enough to be declared the winner for this year, well then, so be it. On the other hand, Manaseh Azure should be hugely and quietly compensated by the GJA for suffering the kind of embarrassment that subjected his person, his media organization , his friends and family to public ridicule and opprobrium.

To the GJA, I say another big shame on you for displaying the kind of incompetence and ineptitude that as a country, we have all been swallowed up in and which act, has further undermined the little remaining integrity that your association, the GJA thrives on.
