The whole education system needs to be reviewed and revamped by the educationist at the ministry not the politicians. Right now it is a whole big mess,and therefore university graduates just go through the system; are not employable because they lack "education". The teachers are products of the system and so we now have a vicious cycle; garbage in, garbage out.

The Acting Director of GES is talking rubbish when he claims Teachers are the weakest link in improving education in Ghana. It is rather the GES's failure and corruption at national, regional and district levels.

What do you expect rural teachers to do when they are appointed and teach for two to three years without pay? Then when the pay finally arrives they are forced by District Education Officers to give larger portion to them before their appointment letters are released to them? When they do not have basic items such as even chalk and books to teach? When school children lack classrooms and furniture to study?

That is the reality whilst this Acting Director of GES sits in his air conditioned office in Accra and joins the NDC politicians by referring to very serious problems as " challenge". He should get out of his office, go round visiting the regions and district Education Offices and he would realise the root is with the GES and not teachers.

This man is probably "high" on some substance by blaming teachers who are poorly trained, remunerated and motivated by leaders of Ghana. At Cape Coast University, lecturers, like Kwame Essandah and others, who give passing grades to female students for sexual relations in the full view of the vice chancellor and others are still at post.And it is nation-wide. Its rather gov`t not teachers over the years blamable not teachers.

Our education system has collapsed not because we do not have the right caliber of teachers, but rather because we have the wrong people at the helm of affairs. If the teachers are given the right kind of leadership, they would perform their tasks properly.
What are the directors at the national, regional, municipal and local levels doing to motivate the teachers? What happened to the old style of having inspectors of schools visiting schools during class hours and standing in the classroom window to listen to the teacher's delivery?
It is true some of our teachers do not get to the classroom before 9.30 even though classes are supposed to start at 8.00 am, but that is the fault of the school heads and the big men in the regional and municipal offices. Let the big bosses lay down their expectations and ensure that the teachers achieve them. Those who feel they cannot endure the pressure would leave, and those seeking to enter the profession would know exactly what would be expected of them.
Having people such as Okugyeto Ablakwa as heads our educational setup is not helping the situation. Because of his own brash with the authorities, he was the wrong person to be pushed into the ministry. This is where the President should be blamed: he is, in fact, the weakest link in Ghana's education system. Let us get rid of him, and 'all things shall be ok'!

Here we are! We know all our problems and yet people at the helm of affairs are just sitting in their cozy offices and collecting their salaries at the end of the month! I am of the opinion that the students that we admit to the training colleges are of mediocrity! Elsewhere in the developed world, the best students are admitted to pursue a career in teaching. In Ghana, it is the opposite How do you expect our educational system to improve if low-grade students are admitted to train a s professional teachers? In the olden days, those who went to be trained as Cert A teachers were among the best after completing Standard 7 or Middle Form 4. Now it is only those who do not make it to the university and the Polytechnics that find their way, reluctantly to go to the training college! How can our educational system compete with other nations with such teacher graduates, who have no motivation or interest to be teachers anyway. The solution is to make the teaching profession, one of the tops to attract brilliant students to enroll as teacher trainees. Else we will continue to see a downward trend in the quality of our educational standards. No amount of supervision, or talking will change the current trend. The teachers are just not good enough nowadays, period!

I was a good science teacher/supervisor but was frustrated when I had to use my money for t&t to go and supervise science teachers in over 300 schools for six months and the GES never paid this money till I left Ghana in 2010 ...

I was a good science teacher/supervisor but was frustrated when I had to use my money for t&t to go and supervise science teachers in over 300 schools for six months and the GES never paid this money till I left Ghana in 2010.all 7 circuit supervisors and 3 subject co-odinaters had to go through that,and the sad thing is to go to schools and see serious but frustrated teachers teaching science without the needed TLMs to make the lesson practical,interesting,save time ,easy and arouse students interest.I love to teach but I am happy I left.Government is not serious.

I can tell you, children in rural areas are doomed educationally cos if you are in JHS 3 and you neither read well nor write well then u are destined for the farm
