It is people like you hence Africa is falling behind countries like China, Indonesia, India and Singapore just to mention a few. Have you ever ask yourself what is the World's Business Language? It is English. Yes, English is the world's language and what can you do about it? Practically nothing. It is only the Ashantis who want only Twi to be used in Ghana. This will never happen period.

I am inclined to believe your schooling is not good and hence you are advocating of scrapping English completely. What a shame people yourself are in Africa hence the continent is still dark. No wonder the country Ghana is in such a messy state. The first Republic of Drs Nkrumah and Ako-Adjei left the country in good state, which was highly valued because other African countries were very proud to have Ghanaian trained Teachers in their countries for their schools and universities.

All poor systems now operating in Ghana were caused by the opposition party. The reason being that these people from the middle belt of the country do not want to go to school yet they wanted power to rule the country. Just how Ghana has go backwards after the first coup.

One of the entry requirements for 6th form and into University is at least a pass in English Language at WAEC School Cert level. Secondly all university Examinations are set in English apart for Twi, Ga Ewe, Hausa, Dangme French, Latin or German etc.
Who marks their papers/dissertations. Are they qualified and trained examiners/assessors? I really wonder. Who assess the assessors in order to maintain and improve standards?

It is only in Africa you can be so subjective like you have just said. But, where I live in the UK, and someone who has travelled the world to work, there is nothing. You cannot say such in any developed Country.

Every graduate must be able to write good and highly sensible English period. All those text language must be left behind when applying for a position, more so a trusted and high valued position.

Mr KAY, this is call EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, and is as simple as that.

There are so many "uneducated" graduates that I fear that in the near future Ghana could "collapse" -- we are seeing the results of JJ's JSS/SSS system now, and in about twenty years or so those who went through that education system will be at the helm of government and other organizations. Our education system is on the downward spiral and so we need to brace ourselves for the worst -- we think MPs and ministers are bad now, wait for 20 years from now and they would be hiring folks from outside the country or educated outside the country to write the president's speech. Instead of providing quality education, we invest in sanitary pads. What a shame!

Unfortunately, most of our wise people and intellectuals have died and are long gone, with so much wisdom and knowledge to have helped our nations DEVELOP but, for the lack of speaking someone else’s ‘lingo, they were condemned as non-entities. We have discarded such brains in our society and frown upon them for their lack of expressing their talent in English?????? What a shame!

But for some funny reason, we pursue the services of the CHINESE (who educate themselves in their own ‘lingos’) come to our country with little or no English at all and carry out our infrastructural developments for our so-called educated elite in our society. We even go on to import toothpicks from them……….Reader!..... please ask yourself whether this makes any sense to you?...........Please!

Writing bad English? It started from the transition to JSS. During an orientation program I attended in 1990, teachers were asked to mark as correct if instead of writing the word Cow, the student draws a Cow because he/she knows what he/she is about.
If we transition without preparation and training of teachers, this is what we get. When Kutu Acheampong started his Continuation school system, selected schools were used on experimental basis. When Papa Jerry wanted JSS, it was wholesale where there were no books and some teachers for some subjects were not well trained for what to teach. Yes, we are reaping what our politicians planted for us.

1.a sarcastic look run from head to toe;
2.a frown of the face that suggests that you are bothering him/her;
3. a complaint that you are harassing him/her;molesting him/her or for having rejected an approach even same sex.
4. Feign sickness and would be absent from work not less than three days;
5. Possibly call someone in authority to warn you/threaten you.

This is true. Read the Daily Graphic and sometimes you will be disappointed with the quality of English.
This is such a shame when it was not long ago when Ghanaians were among the best English speakers in countries that were colonized by the British. English skills are poor - just drive around Accra and you will see posters or banners with incorrect spelling, incorrect grammar etc. My parents always lament the English situation and other things that have deteriorated in Ghana. Our standards in everything have become so low. What is happening to our dear motherland?

These PhD's government cannot even read between lines and sign an agreement with the white-man, Ghana always stands at a loose end so Dr. Ansah must stop harassing these guys. Isn't what the ruling government and his adversaries want to see Ghana as a failed country?
Let us take a brief look at our education and the role of government responsibility.
Education in Ghana has not been study from it sociological standpoint. Others argue that inadequately managed schools bear most of the responsibility for low student achievement. In addition, it is fair to acknowledge that Education disparity populations include a wide range of communities where there is evidence of systematic social or economic discrimination.
Evidently, it is more acceptable that Effort, Prestige and Funding that are to be pouring into it seem to be controversial and emotional issue. The problem of fashioning new programs and new instructional techniques for all students and working class is our greatest issues.
How do Ghana fulfill the demands of industry and commercial for skill and knowledge?
Dr. Ansah, you must think what needs to be done rather than to give a ridiculous criticism on " someones punctuations, comers, grammars and full-stops". Your office is not a classroom.
Our grade one to grade six pupils cannot even read their text books. Do something rather than loosing your moral compass. After all "ENGLISH LANGUAGE" is not your native language.

Why should JHS form three students go into camping for more than a month or so before their BECE exams. look at the private schools, 100% at BECE you are tempted to send your child there. This is the menace of our graduates we churn out of our schools. they 'chew and pour' just to make the grades without learning the intricacies of the subject/course areas.

Internet has an unfortunate consequences that include the use a completely new language that has become known to many as "e-language" OR "electronic language". Because becomes "bcos" and before has become "b4" or b/4.

Bad for the development of proper language. However, until all students become, at least, bi-lingual with all students learning to use BOTH "THE APPROVED QUEEN'S ENGLISH SPELLING" which is the proper English spelling used in English language spoken in London and "E-TEXTING" which is the way internet spelling is generally accepted to be when internet users are sending text messages, the problem will get worse and worse.

At the moment, you have people who have graduated from high school and enrolled in training colleges to become teachers. Some of these people cannot even put a simple one line sentence together. How are they supposed to teach a child to be able to read and write?
