Here was Nana Akufo: “I call on members of the party [NPP] to embrace change in leadership of the party. Such changes are far from harming the fortunes of the party. Change improves the chances of political parties as a new face eventually means new ideas, new methods and new strategies…any candidate elected as the NPP's flag-bearer has already secured 30% of the total valid votes. Failure to garner the remaining 20% plus 1 means the candidate has failed, and therefore must be changed” (ref: Ghana Daily Graphic, October 8, 1998). Today, I will address Ametor Quarme to really know his real worth and capability. Prior to the 2012 elections, because I was desirous of assisting the NDC to win the elections I decided to share my views and ideas using the Ghana Palaver which was edited by Ametor Quarme. This man stole my ideas and views to propel himself and the newspaper as if they were his original ideas. For me once my objective will be attained by this, I allowed it to go.
This approach was used again before the 2000 elections when President J.A Kuffour was contesting late Prof Mills for the vacant seat when President Rawlings was exiting. The newspaper used as the platform during this period was the Free Press.
Ametor Quarme has nothing to offer and I challenge him to that. When the time he is referring to comes, I want to look into his eyes for a challenge. He should diarise this and I will do it.

The majority of Ghanaians are just toiling to maintain a few particularly politicians and Ministers. If any of this group wants attention, they get it immediately but when you and me want the same thing we shall never get it. My electrical meter was faulty and was replaced. After the replacement, I noticed the meter was running unusually faster and I made a complaint at the Faulty section of ECG(Saint John’s office). The response that follows is that the problem is due to electrical wiring of the house. Before the replacement there was no issue with the consumption. This is an unintelligent response coming from a non responsible officer who is paid with my hard earned income I pay as tax.
I want every Ghanaian to see my problem as his/her problem because it can happen to anybody. This is the way ordinary people are treated in this country. A product from the revered School of Administration-Legon, working in one of the prestigious banks suffers this fate, then who gets attention in this country apart from the politician.
Ghanaians should open their minds and stop being surrogates of the less than 5% of our population who are playing on the gullibility of the people. It hurts to see your money being wasted by people you deem far better than but for entering into politics.

It has emerged that about $91,800 was supposed to have been given to the 612 supporters who were sent to cheer the Black Stars at the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup, as pocket money.
However the money, which was allegedly deducted from the three caterers’ budget, was not given to the supporters; neither did they know anything about it.
Mrs Gertrude Quashigah, wife of former Health Minister Courage Quashigah, who is also the CEO of Amber Quality Foods Limited, disclosed this yesterday when she appeared before Justice Senyo Dzamefe’s Commission of Inquiry into the World Cup scandal.
She said the committee in charge of Grounds, Events and Logistics told them (caterers) before they travelled to Brazil that each of the 612 Ghanaian supporters would be pocketing $10 a day from the $45 budgeted for a supporter.
That, she said, was why the committee agreed on $35 a day for the caterers instead of $45.
“Initially, we charged $45 but they told us to sacrifice the $10 and take the $35 because the $10 is for the supporters as pocket money and for breakfast. The Committee told us this at our last meeting at Maxlot Hotel in Accra,” Mrs Quashigah said.
However DAILY GUIDE checks indicated that none of the 612 supporters who were airlifted to Brazil received a penny from government or any committee as pocket money, raising questions about the whereabouts of the over $90,000 allegedly deducted for the supporters.
One of the supporters who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on anonymity said, “Government did not give us any money; neither were we promised any money.”
He said when they got to Brazil, the then Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, visited them and they asked him for per diem but he told them: “Listen to me very carefully and read my lips, we have nothing for you.”
He said they felt disappointed in the minister’s remarks because they heard that during the South Africa 2010 World Cup the supporters were given per diem.
“We were not treated well at all. Where we slept was bad and the food they gave to us from the beginning was not good until we complained before they started giving us good food,” he said.
Inflated Cost
Mrs Quashigah told the commission that there was no transparency in the committee’s dealings with the three caterers, saying they did not even know who was paying for the items they picked from the market and the amount involved.
She said when they returned from Brazil, a committee member gave her a sheet of paper which contained a list of cooking items and their cost, explaining that the list showed the amount spent by the committee on the cooking items she used at the World Cup.
Mrs Quashigah revealed to the Commission that $37,720 was quoted as the cost of ingredients she alone used in Brazil for the cooking.
The amount, she said, was outrageous. “There is no place in the world that the quantity of ingredients I used would amount to $37,720.
“If I was sent to the market I would have bought those items at half the price that was quoted or even less,” Mrs Quashigah said.
She reiterated that the caterers deserved more than the $19,200 given to them, considering the problems and stress they went through during the 15 days of cooking for the supporters.
“Since I came back I have spent a lot on medicals. There was a time it was raining and I fell down and hurt my hip bone. I have still not finished treating myself,” she added.

Ametor Quarme should not go very far, he shouldn't go far at all. His own outfit the NHIS, how is the competence level shaping up over there? Just yesterday, Journalists were being pummeled into oblivion on the back of unprecedented and gargantuan incompetence of the NHIS in the Ablekuma district, which was rightfully being brought to the fore. The NHIS which Ametor is associated with, he cannot not even speak to the competence of that one institution and then the whole Ghana under the Mahama NDC gov't.
It is for some of these very reasons that the constitution needs to be amended so Ghana can have mid-term elections, because with such incompetence and unrepentant thievery thrown into the mix, the lethalness of such a mix cannot lead to anywhere but the abyss.

1. Most of the funding for development are foreign-generated and are in foreign currencies, hence they don't lose value when used in the country. I send my mother $200 every now and then. I've been doing this (the same amount) for more than four years now. She would inform me in passing that she received the money, normally after I've called to check on her several days after. For the past year or so, whenever she gets the money she would call immediately to thank me (anybody made the connection yet, folks?).
2. Locally generated funds are what give the true depiction of the country's currency. A bridge construction that costed Ghc 1.0 now costs more than Ghc 3.0. The Ghc 2.0 difference need to come from somewhere else (workers' salaries, may be). That's why we're suffering, folks.
