Guys! Do not contribute your loaded ignorance to a topic you have no knowledge about scientifically. For your information, a state/province {name withheld}started inspecting and confiscated smoked fish coming from Ghana a couple of years ago.
They detected dangerous and unsafe level of carcinogenic contents in the smoked fish. Further investigations revealed that car/lorry tires were used in smoking the fishes. Also remember nobody used tires to smoke fish or cow hide {wele} in those days. Please think before you write or else you may lead an ignorant person to die prematurely.
On a personal level, I am going to share an information that wouldn't have been shared on this forum but I realize by sharing someone may benefit from it.
I had been referred to a specialist by my family doctor on something unrelated however blood test revealed I had a dangerously high level of sugar in my blood despite the fact that I had no history of diabetes.
It turns out the kenkey I ate the evening before the test caused the elevation of sugar in my blood. The simple reason is that starch converts to sugar. By the the grace of God and a little common sense I am not diabetic or any bouts with blood pressure at this stage of my life by balancing or limiting my carbohydrate intake.
Educating oneself about your health goes a long way to pointing a less accusatory fingers at the so called witches and juju men in our country.

In short, moderation is the way to go. I choose to stay away altogether after a serious love affair with it for a long period of time. It has worked for me for the past five to six years. Please am not asking anybody to take the extreme measures I took but moderation. I did not have time detailing my experience in my post.

I buy wele when I am in Tamale, they don't use rubber tyres there because the tyres are too expensive compared to cheap wood. I bring it back the rolls of hard wele and soak it myself before cooking it. I thne throw away the water from the wele after boiling and boil it again before adding it to food. I have tried to stop eating wele but korder won't let me stop. SO now I chop it only small smal from the north. As for waakye hmmmm. if you see where the market women keep the beans you wont buy it again. Now I bring everything fresh from the north. Please keep on educating our people even if they abuse you small.It is their korder which is driving them so don't worry Doc,

It is unimaginable the things Ghanaians eat and drink, and with such reckless endangerment, what do you expect. Even those who preach these findings have secret horrible eating and drinking habits.

Please Osei Yao! I want you to give consideration to the article in its totality instead of the headline. In my opinion, he is complaining of the process and not part of the cow itself that he is claiming to cause cancer. If I may remind you, we are advised not to reuse plastic water bottles in the west because it is believed that, cancer causing carcinogenic materials from the plastic container can start sipping into the bottle after the first opening.
I am really enjoying the civilized debate without overwhelming insults.
