Look at the situation between the USA ,China and Japan. The USA sells or issue treasury bonds and China and Japan buys them. The USA pays interest on those bonds. China bought roughly 3.2 trillion dollars of US bonds.

The interest payments to China by the USA catapulted China to become the world second largest economy;

When you issue or sell bonds it means you are borrowing the money. You have to pay back that money with interest so I don't see how that can help Ghana.

Remember Kufour's $750,000,000 Eurobond issue with about 7.5 to 8.0 % interest payments. Isn't that part of the reason Ghana is broke today?

No one should invest in this eurobond. Bonds are the most useless, worthless type of investment any person can make. The returns are too low and u will wait till ur grandkids have children before u realise any measurable return on ur investments. What ghana should do is get more businesses to list on thebstock exchange so ppl can invest in them. Make the business environment more transparent, low taxes and clean up corruption so ppl can have trust in the business climate in ghana. This will get more foreigners to also buy stocks in gh companies, foreign companies will come tonghsna and list on our stock exchange. Then, widen the tax bracket, trim down the public sector. Invest in children education. Invest in infrastructure project ts to create jobs and spending. Investing in local production and factories and impose high taxes on imports that aren't really necessary for development. U can do all these and have no reliance on information. But becos u are shady, lazy u prefer fast food money. U will soon residents what kfc will do to you. U asshole!

Dear friend, this is not tribalism at all, you see I honestly don't like the idea when reviewers or dissenters of particular type of reasoning insult others, but you see, let us all be objective. My question to you is, do you realistically think Ghana is doing well now after 57 years of independence?. The country is also saddled with so much debts that it is so scary thinking about sustainable development. Besides, no country in the world goes to IMF and still maintains her autonomy in that particular nation's governance. The IMF with its neoliberalism policies forces you to deregulate, whether in trade liberalisation, lower environmental laws, trade unions democratic powers are curtailed, and the list goes on and on. So any dealings with the Bretton Woods institutions really is not a prudent economic option. Do your own research with IMF dealings with India, Argentina and other south American countries or any other country, you will come to the conclusion that such a move with IMF is an economic disaster. Don't let anybody fool you with any other lies, for I honestly feel sorry for Mahama at this time. We want Ghana, and I'm talking about Ghanaian people in the North, Upper Region, South, West, Volta, etc to be given the freedom to enjoy their social and economic inviolable rights; that is what GDP is all about. Sadly, the current party lacks that competence and has failed Ghana miserably. People should therefore have to be objective about these matters and make political decisions according to issues and not tribalism, fetishism, etc. I hope this helps.

We need to be runners in building the country of our dreams and finding the resolution that our fathers could not find. If we search inside ourselves we will be able to build businesses and collect crops which are good enough to make ghanaian businesses compete on the world stage. Making sure that they bring in the doe and send out the love if that is the way round you look at it. We could be a people who search worldwide for the things we need to make our country better. Or give advice to others who need to learn from our ideas and living. Why can't a fluid Africa be sustained in an ever growing world. If we are ready to except change in our world then we are ready to bring our lives into the forefront of peoples homes for the right reason. We are actors, politicians, doctors, farmers, teachers, business men and women. We are leaders, diplomats, security, chefs and a united people who can look to making our lives better. We can choose to live as a people, we can better our lives, ask yourselves who has the first step and spread the word so that we become one with the right action, policy and union. We will not lie to get there, we will not fall but we will unite to be a better nation.

numerous State Owned Factories built by Osagyefo Dr Prof Kwame Nkrumah's CPP gov't,put on Divestiture by Rawlings ; instead of a Simple Social responsibility Common Sense approach of a "Going Concern"(people cont.to work while you look for investors to takeover).As a result the Country is not producing anything.The Country is filthy to the core.

First of all, let me make the point that the cedi's appreciation has nothing to do with macro economics, but rather it is due to market (currency) speculation. The speculators have positioned their bids in light of IMF bailout, which will pump millions if not billions of dollars into the economy. Currency speculators believe that talks with the IMF will be successful and have stated their positions to reap the benefits when the cedi appreciates after the eventual IMF bailout.
But people like JH New York, who through ignorance have elevated Kufuor to a celebrity status should be ashamed of themselves. They are the proverbial blind leading the blind. If you were to ask me about Ghana's worst leader since Kutu Acheampong, my answer without question will be John Agyekum Kufuor. Kufuor is a born crook, and ignominiously narcissistic. This idiot had the goodwill of whole world, especially the Scandinavian countries, to put Ghana on the path of becoming a middle-income country and beyond in the eight years he presided over the country but painfully squandered the opportunity. Lee Kwan Yew built Singapore, a marshy land, from scratch and without support in 25 years. Think of what JA Kufuor could have done in 8 years with full support of the world behind him.
I do not have the time and space to list the tragedy of a real African success story. Ghana had its day in the sun between 2000 and 2008 but it squandered the opportunity because it had a fool for president. My advice to you is to refrain from giving any credit to John Agyekum Kufuor, because giving credit to a loser like Kufuor belies your ignorance in economic matters in the country.

What happened to 'self-reliance,independence from the British,etc'. Dr. Nkrumah will be very sad in his grave.All his efforts are now in vain.All his patriotic struggles for independence from colonial rules are down the hill. This is shameful! The IMF tells you what to do if it is going to to lend you money. You either take it or leave it! Either way you end up poorer & dependent on the West. NDC has always had short sighted policies because of populist ideology! That is why the economy is now a mess.
